  • EXCITING NEWS: all of the information contained in the videos on garters is now consolidated in this helpful new book available from Amazon.
    amzn.to/3L80rWJ
    After two years of lockdown, we now have a glut of postponed weddings to attend. Hurrah! We don't have a lot of wedding traditions as a family so I decided to start one myself. I always offer to make special wedding garter for my nearest and dearest- and the brides! Boom boom.
    I make two garters in this video. In the first I try to cover all possible questions and in the second I really just zoom through. Pick whichever suits your level of expertise or just watch both. I hope you enjoy them and are suitably inspired to make your own. Have fun watching and please subscribe; after all it's free!
    This is the knicker elastic I used amzn.to/3KhnyhF
    Since making this garter I have come across elastic which I think will work much better than what we Brits call knicker elastic. If Amazon uk sell it, I'll use it in my next garter video to test it.
    Found it! On amazon.co.uk amzn.to/3Za3YZh
    And
    Silicon backed stretch gripper tape from Amazon.com amzn.to/3KgU3MV
    NB
    I am always happy to give you a steer to products I have used, to make your life easier, but I have just joined the Amazon affiliates programme, so Amazon reach into their deep pockets and now give me a teeny tiny commission, if you follow my link and purchase. The other good news is that it doesn't cost you a bean, it's the same price as if you found it on Amazon yourself.

      Thanks for watching Debbie and thank you for the compliment. I'm really thrilled that you are now having a go yourself!
      I used 2.5cm or 1 inch wide ribbon in these garters- it needs to be just wide enough to cover your elastic.
      You might be interested to know that I have just published a book including all my expertise and tips on how to make this and other garters on amazon.
      "How to make Beautiful Wedding Garters".
      amzn.to/3popJrd
      It has a chapter on each of the types of garter: frilly, flat and hybrid. It also covers what to do if your garter slips and much more.
      As a novel bonus, (which I don't think has been done before) it includes QR codes, at the end of each chapter, linking you to the relevant garter video on TH-cam. So you get a virtual tutorial included for each type of garter. I've also included, at the end of the book, a QR code linking to the whole wedding accessories playlist and another linking directly to each suppliers I used.
      I'd love to know how you get on.

      What a lovely way to get the generations together! In case you haven't seen them there are two other 'how to' videos for garters- one is how to make a flat garter , for a fitted wedding dress and the other is how to make a hybrid garter - something in between. There's also one on how to stop your garter slipping and now a BOOK of everything about wedding garters!
      amzn.to/3OOheRa
      You'll find all of the garters if you subscribe ( free ) and click on the 'wedding accessories' playlist. That playlist also includes two 'how to make a fascinators' videos, when you are done with the garters.
      Thank you so much for your comment and for watching; I was having a bit of a flat day, but you have cheered me up immensely.

    Thanks for your information on making these garders. It helped me in making one from a mothers bride dress for her daughter. It killed me to cut her dress but the mother wanted to make something for her to treasure. Thanks cindy

      @BecomingCreative  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Cindy. I feel your pain cutting into the mother's wedding dress, but it would certainly have made something special for the daughter. How lucky they both are to have a friend like you. Now that you have cut the original dress though maybe you could make a little dress for any offspring from the remains?

    I NEEEEEED to see you sew these together…. PPPPPLEASE

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Fear not Rosi, I'm here. If you are already at the sewing up stage you have done most of the hard work, now the final hurdle. I don't know if you have used silicone backed elastic ( in which case, see this video th-cam.com/video/_DSgaVEVd90/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kXo0LPi2kQIcx3Eu at 26.35) or if you have used 'knicker ' elastic. If the latter, you can put it under the sewing machine, taking care not to catch the lace in the foot. If necessary, just sew the elastic part back and forth under the machine and finish the lace by hand.
      At the risk of sounding shamelessly self promoting I have written a book covering everything in my garter videos and more if that helps: amzn.to/4bAS4xK
      I'm sure it will look amazing and what a wonderfully personal and loving present.

    I have a suggestion to make sure the dimenties do not snag the dress. paint on clear nail polish / let dry then apply.this has worked of me.

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is a great idea Sheila. You could also use transparent drying glue. You have already done this successfully Sheila-well done. For everyone else, if you can't get the finish you want with filing, just make sure you don't put too much glue/nail varnish on- just enough to cover the snag.
      Thank you, top tip.

    Could I ask what ribbon you used please? I’ve bought ribbon and it’s quite crispy and not soft, if that makes sense 🤷‍♀️

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It makes complete sense. Full disclosure, I used ribbon I have collected over time from chocolate boxes and lavishly wrapped presents, but if I was buying some I would use something like this. Annoyingly it comes in a bundle rather than just the colours you want, but you might well find, as I did, that once you get going all sorts of ideas occur to you.
      amzn.to/41Aky5h
      Alternatively try to soften the ribbon you have already bought. It will be stiff for one of two reasons: the composition of the fabric or it contains starch or a stiffener of some sort. If the latter then stick it in a net bag and throw it in the wash to get the stiffener out. Iron it and you should be good to go.
      If it's the composition of the fabric then you could try physically breaking it down a bit. I would take one end of the ribbon in each fist then scuff it between your knuckles a few times- as if you were trying to get a stubborn stain out of laundry in a hand wash. If that doesn't work though there is this suggestion I've found for you from another youtuber, th-cam.com/video/CEZZ5iW0Vsk/w-d-xo.html
      I haven't tried it myself so let me know how you get on.

    • @BecomingCreative

    what should I set my machine at to do the lace?

    • @BecomingCreative

      As you are already stretching the elastic while you sew on the lace you can use an ordinary straight stitch.

      Thank you so much for the quick response…. You are so sweet and I so enjoy your video. Fortunately the garter I made today was my trial garter which was to be the one for the groom to toss. I’m making a beautiful keepsake garter for my Niece for her wedding also.
      I’m sure the elastic was my problem… it was narrow probably too narrow.
      I plan to use a wider elastic on my next one.
