    What about drilling a hole with a spade bit? I have a laminate countertop that I would like to install a soap dispenser in and I really don’t want to mess up my counter top as they were installed in 2021.

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@alexib5248 To be perfectly honest I have only used spade bits on wood, not laminate. Your problem here is not just which cutting tool to use, but also access to the top as it is already fixed in position. You could use a sacrificial piece of mdf on top to protect the laminate layer, but difficult to see how you could clamp it in position. Also be careful you don't cut too close to the sink. Personally in your situation I would consider just mounting a bottle dispenser on the wall. Does anyone else here have any suggestions for Alex?

There are 3 vids about water butts and I have put links in the descriptions for products I have used but there are, of course others on the market. Whatever you choose, make sure it is compatible with a water butt as opposed to a mains tap. Alternatively, warm up a piece of hose pipe in boiling water and fit this to the tap nozzle then attach your hose connector of choice to the hose which connects to the timer. Xx

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd be interested to know if you've tried this and made it work? I suspect that the weight of the hose would eventually mean that it would slip off, leak or come loose, especially if the tap had a thread. Still, all roads lead to Rome. • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fear not Rosi, I'm here. If you are already at the sewing up stage you have done most of the hard work, now the final hurdle. I don't know if you have used silicone backed elastic ( in which case, see this video th-cam.com/video/_DSgaVEVd90/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kXo0LPi2kQIcx3Eu at 26.35) or if you have used 'knicker ' elastic. If the latter, you can put it under the sewing machine, taking care not to catch the lace in the foot. If necessary, just sew the elastic part back and forth under the machine and finish the lace by hand. At the risk of sounding shamelessly self promoting I have written a book covering everything in my garter videos and more if that helps: amzn.to/4bAS4xK I'm sure it will look amazing and what a wonderfully personal and loving present.

    I love this video and am half way through setting up my own system following your advice. All going well except that I can’t get the cane topper to fit inside the hose. Perhaps I need it hotter but it seems the topper is just too big for the hose diameter. Wondered if you had any other ingenious ideas!

    • @BecomingCreative
      @BecomingCreative 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Sarah, firstly thank you for watching and yes of course there are other ideas- my head is always fizzing with them!!! Firstly the easy one: do nothing, lay your hose out with the holes made and see how much water makes it to the very end, you can reduce the amount that makes it if you just have the end of the hose going uphill a bit and have it up against a plant so that the trickle that emerges waters that plant. If that doesn't work because too much water is making it to the end try a cork from a wine bottle, you can always trim it down a bit with a craft knife ( cutting down on to a board and away from your fingers). If it leaks a bit that doesn't matter because that leak will water the end plant. The cork will also slightly increase the pressure in the hose and therefore the sprinkles that you get emerging from it back towards the tap. Or if this is making too much water sprinkle just turn the tap at the butt down a bit. Hope this helps- where there's will and all that. Let me know how you get on, we will crack this between us.

Buying new bits when it didn’t work until I got to the end of my tether and spent 30mins on t’internet for answers. And there you are! Shining like an angel from heaven in her garden. All the info. Short and sweet and to the point. Went searching on all the other hose bits and bobs, levered off an o-ring and stuck it on the water butt tap. Ta da! THE DRIP SYSTEM NOW WORKS. Please add this tip to your future videos. If you are cutting off more than an inch of the laminate, you can make a practice cut. If you are cutting off 2 or more inches, you can make multiple practice cuts - before you do something you can't fix. This tests the surface, the saw, the blade, the cutting guide, and it especially tests your technique. You can firure out if you are better off cutting from the top or bottom, how hard to press down on the saw, cutting speed, etc.

      Thanks for watching and glad you found it interesting. With regards to the zig zig, I know what you mean but if you match the thread carefully it does become almost invisible. Alternatively you could use a straight stretch stitch. There's always a work around to be found somewhere. Hope you've subscribed, love the comments.

      You're welcome Nancy. Hope it gave you a little nudge? Subscribe to 'all' if you are interested in more videos applying creativity to all aspects of our lives, otherwise you'll just get videos about DIY.. I haven't seen the silicone backed elastic in my local shops in the US yet, but I will be looking for it! Just a thought when sewing it, put a strip of waxed paper or plastic grocery bag or possibly even tissue paper over the top to keep it gliding under the presser foot. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

      Sorry I missed this when you first posted it! In the USA you can find the silicone backed elastic here amzn.to/3KgU3MV Your idea about using waxed paper or plastic or tissue paper is excellent. I think I'll give it a go when I make my next garter thank you.

    The some peculiar reason that you do not understand is called a safety measure. You can use a downstroke blade to cut, but that will make the kickback significantly stronger. The safest way to cut is use the upstroke blade and flip the board around. Don't worry, the method you've shown here is already perfect and safe. You don't need to see the board as you're cutting it. This is work, not a show. Trust your measurement. Remember the mantra: "Measure Twice & Cut Once" 👍
