Hearing is decided on some date and the district judge goes on leave and all the hearing cases are postponed. How the commen man can spend for the lawer when the hearing is postponed?

How long a case can be prolonged if the opponent lawer doesn't appear or asking for another hearing date and keep on asking again and again and not coming for argument?
