This video is a slap to the people who say ustad Zakir sir now only plays westernised solos and lost the classical touch. He is playing kaydas of famous Thirakwa sahab and also the style is very similar
very good observation !! Ustadji has always stayed deeply rooted to classical music. 99% of the common junta get swayed by his looks and panache. They have never understood the real Zakir Hussain, coz' it is too difficult for them. Ustadji plays a very expressive yet the most difficult brand of tabla which even educated tabla players cannot fathom.
The best thing about him is if the previous day he plays jazz, and today he accompanies someone then tomorrow he is ready to perform solo recital on Indian classical
Such is his versatility
Better not to comment on his gigantic capability of instant innovation.

What an occassion to rise up! Remembering Ustad Ahmad Jan Thirakwa, one of the brightest stars in the sky-- on the stage, Ustadji, paying his richest tribute! Many a men even connoisseurs, sometimes complains of his gimicky westernized performances. Some of them also compare him with others which is totally unfair esthetically! Lo, listen, what a performance it is!
What about Sarangi and Sabir ji? His part here for sure is unparalleled, soothing to the ears and complimentary!
Please, use quality head phones! Otherwise, I'm affraid you will miss the delicate nuances of the 'Baya'! Please, don't skip the 'vilambit laya' portions which I think are studded with real gems.

I agree Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa is one of the greatest (sometimes called the Mount Everest of tabla) and Zakir ji performed very well here. I agree that some people say that he has too many gimmicks and say that people like Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri are better. But comparing is just wrong. I agree all of the are great infact it was Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri's performance at bengal music festival inspired me to pursues tabla. But all of them are great and comparing is just wrong.
I was blessed to experience this Solo live at Sathya Sai Auditorium, that to sitting near the cyclorama. Great divine vibes....Sarangi and Zakir ji himself.
He is just phenomenal... Even Sabir bhai sarangi was outstanding. The musicianship between the two are exceptional. There is some vibration in Zakir ji that makes thousands of audience to one mind and one heart. His music capable of making someone forgetting time. 🙏🙏🙏

Brother although they both are great, their style of playing is quite different. Ustad Tari Khan saab has a different approach and is influenced by the kind of music that he was surrounded by whereas Ustad Zakir hussain was in a different environment. The ghazal accompaniment of Ustad Tari khan saab is unmatched.
