For fishing Baxter you should stop into the knifes edge outfitters in millinocket they have flies there that are local to the area especially Baxter and the west branch.
I like ur fly rig setup mate! very successful and I'm going to try it around my backwoods. You probably did remove the fish kidney when u cleaned it too? U edited that out is all 😉🤙
Your videos are better than any tourism videos put out by the state. You really make visiting Maine climb on my list of places to fish. Keep up the great work.
Thanks that means a lot! maybe i'll make one for the state one day haha! Maine truly has a lot to offer however, one of the greatest things about these places I go is how little is know about these spots. Much of Maine is remote even the popular destinations have very few people around. I think thats our biggest attractions.
In Lee also, I'm headed up to Baxter in the next couple weeks to try. Not really sure where I'm going but will find something. You ever go and find anything?
MainelyOutDoors that was actually last month so I went a lil early, you should be good guy! I think they close on the 20th? Make more videos when you have the free time, makes me feel like I’m out there with ya!
@@LSongz13 Yup just for catch and release. I'm going this weekend for the first time very excited to see how it goes. I'll have another video out today or tomorrow.
@@MainelyOutDoors I have gone the 1st week of June the last 2 years and caught a bunch. Some good camping spots all on public land. I have great luck with keitech swimbaits. I haven't done much flyfishing for years but your videos do inspire to try it again.
Awesome, I'm going to make a trip around then. I have never done much fly fishing for bass but id like to get into it. its enjoyable and very rewarding but it takes patience especially when you start out
If you are heading to GLS, then I would try the Hatchery Pool for sure. The dam pool is good but can be tricky. Also there are some falls down stream from the hatchery that produce very well also. As far as flies, your stone fly and Grey Ghost are very good. I would stop at the Grand Lake Stream General Store and see if they have any One Eye Poacher streamers. These are a local favorite that originated at GLS. When in doubt, go with bright colors. I have fished GLS a lot and it was always a favorite for me. I would also go with a heavier tippet. At least a 4 or 5X because you can hook up on 7-8 pound salmon. My biggest was just under 9 pounds out of the Hatchery Pool. Oh and I was using a One Eye Poacher with 6X tippet. Solid 10 minute fight on my 6wt 9'
Thanks for all the useful tips! I'm very excited to go try it out this upcoming weekend, I've heard the salmon are off to a slow start this season but maybe they are running now. Hopefully I can hook up to one even some what close to that 9 pounder you landed, Nice fish!!
This time of year I believe is catch and release only. I caught mine the middle of May. The one I kept was 7lb 6oz and currently resides on my den wall. It was that same day I caught the 9lber but since I had already kept and killed the other one I had to release her back to the stream. There were others I caught that were in the 5-7 pond range.
There are a few other ponds I can point you to for some decent spring fishing that are only about an hour from you. Once you hit Rt 9 your not far. let me know if your interested and let me know how to contact you. I really do not want to give to much info over a public forum.
Finally found this comment sorry things get lost in the comments on my end very hard to keep track of conversations. I would very much appreciate that. I'm still new to the area so I have not found too many decent spots. that's pretty much why I end up traveling to more familiar places so much. You can always reach out to me on my Instagram (mainelyoutdoors18) or by email (mainelyoutdoors18@gmail.com) and don't worry I never specify where I go to people in videos in part because I want to inspire people to get out there and explore on there own and I would hate to put so much pressure on the fishing holes I frequent. For the most part, only those who recognize the location, to begin with, know where it is
Hey Mainly Outdoors I love the vids👌. I'm just tried tried fly fishing for brookies in wv and that's some tough stuff lol. I got very discouraged but I'm planning on going back out. Wish me luck lol
Thanks! thats awesome that you're getting into the sport. It definitely frustrating but keep with it. I dont know what it is but im addicted to it now. When your getting started keep it simple use just a single fly it will help prevent tangles and use a dry fly if they'll bite on it takes out one more complication (the indicator) and you'll have an easier time seeing the rise so you can get use to fighting fish on the fly rod. Just keep at it!
Thanks, no I've been busy lately. I also have two things working agents me. One im not the best artist and two im kinda a perfectionist so it might take a bit. However, Its on my mind and i'll get something I feel comfortable putting my name on soon!
Nice video, I've been fishing in BSP since the 80's and it's a special place. Just curious, have you considered loading your reel for left hand retrieve? I'm also a right handed fly fisher and I like not having to switch hands when I get a fish on the reel. Also, nothing wrong with keeping a brook trout or two to eat now and then where they're plentiful.
Funny you mention that. I actually never realized that other people did it that way until recently I’ve since switch over for a couple years now. But when I was young my father was left-handed and I’d always always borrow his rods that were set up for a left hand retrieve 😂
Thanks Jacob! I did, could help my self after seeing the quality of yours. went with a cannon m50 to save some cash though. How did the fishing go this weekend?
Bummer, too bad thats it till they ice up. Will have to make an ice fishing trip some time maybe do some winter camping. in the meantime at least you still got the tuna opining back up
I really enjoy your videos. You actually inspired me to try Fly Fishing this past August and I got a couple of beautiful wild Maine Brook Trout.Nothing huge maybe 10"-12", but its been an ambition of mine for years to get a trout on a fly so I was pretty pumped.Have you considered doing Striper Fly Fishing Video?
That's awesome! Definitely a rewarding sport no matter the size of the fish. Keep at it and you'll catch a monster one day. I have actually I hope to go after some stripers next year but I have to save up for a heavier rod and reel before that happens. Tight lines Paddy!
Hey Jessie, another nice fly and trout video. Great job cookin it up in the bush. Today’s the last stream and brook fishing down here in Southern Maine (York). I nailed 5 bookies after work this afternoon - released, but now it’s over for the season for me. Any idea how I can legally fish streams and brooks later into the Fall? Also, let me know how I can send you some of Maine’s best hot sauce (Beast Feast). It’ll be my contribution to your next catch and cook. Thanks - Kevin
Awesome! I know this time of the year bums me out a bit as all the rivers and streams close but if your'er up for a trip Grand lake stream is open until the 20th of October. You'll see me up there thats for sure. Oh, cool id love to try it! if you send me an eamil I'll give you my P.O box. Tight lines Kevin!! -MOD
@@NidoR6s thats all it takes you don't need the best gear to catch fish. that fly rod im using cost me 3$ at a yard sale. Keep at it and your 10$ rod will catch more fish than some people holding a 500$ rod.

Beautiful trouties and spot

Grand lake stream!!! I used prince nymphs and a Adams dry fly. The landlock salmon there are pretty big but they only went for my nymphs

Not that I know of might be a good app for someone to make. I think orvis has a hatch chart, that might help anyway
