I'm a single mom of three. I homeschool. Little known fact- even snap/ebt can purchase some long term storage foods and five gallon drums for water AND food bearing plants. For the time being. I use these resources to help us prepare. I tried gardening for the first time with little success- and it's tough doing all the labor alone (of course i have the kids help where they can). But I will keep trying. I own this home and we have a good size yard and some woods and fresh water sources we can rely on. We have a community of fellow believers and some good neighbors... i store backup essentials like toiletries, fire and light sources, etc. we're doing OK and we're pretty well ready for some hard times.

Great, inspiring video, Curtis! I was blessed to be awakened and was able to start my new journey two years ago. Once I made the decision everything has fallen into place. I now have an acre of land, an old but well built farmhouse on well water and septic, established fruit trees, berry bushes, grapevine, and several gardens that we keep enlarging and adding to. I've learned to can, save seeds and raise chickens. I absolutely love this life.

I'm in a weird area out in the country. We're on a mountain in the county with very few people. Been here since 2007 and working to be self sustainable. That was the goal. Read the Bible and God spoke, I took action and damn glad I did.

When I started to harvest a bit yesterday I realized my ark was lacking. Did a huge Costco run to ensure our winter is at least ok. Ironically the power went out at Costco while shopping. Literally the only way we know the power is out is we are at a store or our neighbours generator comes on. Lessons learned for garden. Will be ready next year from April on. Self sufficiency is not easy.

I like your channel because you are genuinely seeking to 1) Be a farmer, 2) Create a sustainable lifestyle and 3) Be able to not be dependent on 'the system'. Most homesteading channels have simply turned into reality shows, and are in no way really moving towards sustainability. I can see in your work you are focused on genuine sustainability, and then are kind enough to share your expertise with the rest of us with your videos, and would imagine your youtube income allows you to move more quickly to genuine sustainability. Well done.
There is so much truth in your statement, "Its very difficult to get to a place where you do not have any external inputs". We have been working for four years towards that goal. We have gotten to the point we can feed ourselves from our compound, and we do not purchase any chemicals. We do, however, require dozen upon dozens of dump truck loads of cow manure and river hyacinth, and constant work in generating compost. We have chickens but have to buy chicken food. Realistically, we have simply stopped buying eggs, and started buying chicken food. The 'improved' laying hens seem to require a perfectly crafted feed in order to lay eggs. Simply free ranging them, and giving them locally grown protein results in healthy happy chickens, but no eggs.
Hence, the next step for us to become sustainable, is to introduce animals for the purpose of developing a synergistic and symbiotic relationship between the animals, the trees and the gardens. We will be moving from improved layer chickens to indigenous village chickens. These chickens will have poor egg production compared to optimized layer hens, but they will be able to produce eggs by free ranging. The village chickens are also much less susceptible to disease and illness. Then their manure will begin to lower our need for so much cow manure. We are replacing our well manicured lawns with native grasses which the rabbits can eat. As I mentioned in an earlier comment. Rabbits produce 1) Natural insecticide, 2) Fertilizer that does not need to be composted, and 3) meat. They can do this with no external feed stocks, as they can do well on elephant grass, which we grow, alfalfa, and various weeds and garden waste. The rabbits are a critical part for us to 'close the loop', and not require external feed stock.
We are presently on the grid, but the grid is down about 25% of the time. We really looked carefully at solar, but with the limited lifetime of storage batteries, we determined that we can presently buy diesel for a commercial generator cheaper than the replacement cost of batteries. Solar is not sustainable if it depends on batteries for storage. We are strategically adding solar in certain areas. Our gardens are all on drip irrigation fed from an elevated tank. We fill the tank with a pump, pumping water from the Nile River. We pump water when the sun is shining, and if the sun is not shining, the gardens can go a day or so without water. Electricity for the house is a wonderful convenience, but should the grid go down, we can keep the gardens watered with solar and no batteries. We will simply make do without electricity in the house if we have to. Year round temps here of 65-75 degrees make this possible.
Sorry for the long comment, but the bottom line is exactly what you said . . . true self-sustainability is an incredibly hard goal to reach. Like you, I think we are on that path. I can see a day we can feed ourselves without leaving the compound. Yet our approach is labor intensive, so we must see that should the ATMs stop spitting out money, we have to produce enough not to just feed ourselves, but provide for the labor keeping the gardens and projects operating.
Sorry for the long comment, but we are greatly blessed by the knowledge and skill we get from watching your channel. I thank you for your efforts in sharing your knowledge, and we pass it on to those around us. May God bless your efforts!

I woke up two years ago. Since then I had such a strong gut feeling to stock up on food. I have been gardening and canned as a hobby but in fall of 2020 started pressure canning so many different things. I was fired last December as a nurse, which I have been for 18 years. Tried a different type of nursing but after 8 months quit bc it didn't align with my values. I am now a stay at home mom. My husband is not awake or a born again believer and our kids are still in public school. I can only pray he sees the light soon. So I keep trucking away on our 2 acers. I plan on learning about herbal medicine and building my community of like minded people and hope one day my husband will wake up. Many blessings from California. Please pray for our state. 🙏

Thank you Curtis, we’ve lost our land for being awake!! It offends apparently, so we have to start again from scratch from Feb 2023, we’ve worked soooo hard and now to be in this situation is utterly devastating, as we thrived throughout the plandemic and had a 5 year plan, planting for future years etc, everything has to be dug up, put back to a blank field, but hey, we rented the land so nothing we can do.
We will never accept the tyranny, been awake for 5 years!! Thanks for awakening others , it makes us feel we are on the right track sticking to the truth. Regardless of the back lash. 🙏🇬🇧❤️

Mornin Curtis, from the mtns of eastern oregon.
Quit my govt job of 12 years...the mask debacle was the final straw to a growing distaste for what the govt is. The face masks went on and the character masks came off. I did not comply...what a ride.
This little town I live near has and is changing...the they are coming.
Anyhow, the opportunities for work are everywhere. Even here in this very rural location. People are nearly begging for either work to be done or for workers to hire...freedom for hire.
My family is waking up and switched on for the most part. I still find it hard to motivate these good folk to the "next level". So it's basically just the wife and I on the land and it is a lot of hard work. We are blessed.
Thankfully, those we love are "prepping" and sharing their ideas/listening to ours and I am thankful for that. We are on the same page and while we are a little scattered, we are in close proximity as in, a 60 mile radius...maybe that is advantageous...
Just wanna say thanks and I hope to renew my from the field subscription again here soon. Had to pull all my trickle payments while we re-tooled our budget.
So in closing, I'll say see ya neighbor. Well, regional neighbor. Good day.

Became a prepper and homesteader 3 years ago. Sold my house and moved to a town of 2,500. The closest big town of 90,000 is 60 miles away. I bought a house that’s 120 years old on 1.62 acres. Growing this first year has been tough with trying to amend the soil. Pulled 2 beds of potatoes today and maybe 4 pounds is all I’ve gotten. The tops were gorgeous and full and yet hardly a potato and some had none. My sweet potatoes won’t get harvested til December and I’m praying they do well. Took forever up here in the mountains to get everything started this year. Tomatoes are just starting to produce. Zucchini too. Peppers are finally producing. All my plants are from seed. Good thing is I just push forward. Sewed radishes and beets 3 days ago and they’re already up! Tomorrow I’ll see broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, and carrots. If I don’t get more potatoes I’ll just buy a 10 pound bag and can them. Nothing will stop me from putting food away.

I’m a native west coaster who made the decision to look elsewhere for retirement. We are 69/71 and are starting over. No big house to sell, so we had to be frugal. Fortunately, awe were able to buy a 105 year old log home on 1 1/3 acres in a town of 27,000 in East Tennessee. Being older, we needed to be near medical support. We are currently still on the west coast due to family issues. I’m really frightened that we will be stuck here and not make it to our home in Tennessee in time before shtf. I just keep praying. It feels so hopeless.

Well Curtis, that was yet another great Video. My boy is 17 ,grade "A" student ,has a job, girlfriend, car ,and plans to go to college after he graduates next June .But how do I tell him of what's about to come to every town in Canada? I have tried several times to explain, but to him I am precieved as negative. So as much as it hurts ,I have to just let him go to do the things he sees fit. College? A 4 year black hole even if he completes the 4~5 term. The world will be totally different then it is now but he will still have to fibd a job in his chosen field. This might be 4 years of regrets or 4 years that will lead to a successful happy life.

I spent hundreds on seedlings, the only think that is still alive is the parsley,
Sweet potato and a tomato plant!
I want to start from scratch, with the goal to grow food for our family and the community.

Thanks for your work. I've been following you since I returned from Kashmir to UK about 7 years ago where I witnessed martial law and the devastating assault on the local population and not a soul in the outside world knew what was going on. It was the first time I'd properly realised the power of the media. I knew, what was happening there could happen any moment anywhere if the media could stifle such a big event as the trouble in Kashmir. I came home and the next day got into my neighbour's garden to grow food. They had abandoned it. I wondered how many other people were on it and I found you. I followed you, and still do, and feel like a friend on your journey. You never mentioned you were a truther, except when you said things like 'global dimming' in one of your videos a few years ago. I knew then you knew. I joined your from the field, and am still a member, only a sleeping one. I sold my house summer 21 and have been on a bit of a detour ever since. Thought I'd made a good decision, by buying woodland, only to realise it wasn't! So now I'm re-evaluating where I'll be in the next year. Fingers crossed we don't get the crash before I'm ready to move again. Like you, I've been studying and learning all sorts for years, including wild herbal and kitchen cupboard medicine which I teach, crafts and repairs, expanding my food growing knowledge, and teaching online courses to get people started on their food growing journey. I'm learning all the time. Aside from the heavy hearted knowledge of these psychos who think they have the world sown up, I'm feeling skilled and genned up on how to survive. I wish to thank you for your passion, and sometimes I've sensed your urgency, going back, to get this way of life into people's thick skulls! Convenience will be the death of us. Blessings to you and your family.

I live in rural Victoria, Australia. I am finding it extremely difficult to find my tribe. I find that nearly all the people I meet or already know are completely oblivious to what’s going on around them or they just think I’m nuts when I try to explain it. All they seem to be concerned with is complaining about government and politicians and just interested in talking about football or cricket or the latest reality TV show. I’m finding I have not much in common with people these days and it’s hard to have a conversation with most of them. Of the few people I have a conversation with and can agree with my sentiments most of them nod their head and just continue on with their life the way it is without wanting to change or put any effort in, they still believe someone is going to save them. There is a handful of like-minded people in my area and we can only forge a bond to hopefully get through whatever may come. I’m really enjoying watching your Homestead build you have really helped me out with irrigation. thank you 🙏

    • @josephjones5070
      @josephjones5070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

We're few and far between it seems. But we are here. Sometimes I think that God isolates us for our own protection. If we were to unite in any real way, the power of this world would be able to strike at us much more easily. And there is a kind of quiet strength to be had when we struggle alone, bit with the knowledge that others are out there doing the same.
Sometimes I think that Curtis is a bit too optimistic about the future of relatively powerless groups living off grid. I think that when the beast really takes center stage, there is little hope of finding a place where its talons won't reach. But I don't say that in a defeatist way.
I have a Book that foretold all of this. It doesn't paint a pretty picture of what is yet to come. It doesn't foretell anything except for more suffering as long as this world stands. But it does say that this world won't stand forever. And after it passes, there is something unimaginably beautiful to come.
Keep trying to tell them, brother. If even one in a thousand comes to understanding, it is worth all the pain of the effort. Keep doing everything you can to show them the way and to make the little bubble around you a place of Truth.
and don't despair if it looks like things are getting worse. The beast is beyond our ability to resist in any material way. But saving the world isn't the point. Trying to save this world has only ever lead to corruption and destruction. We have to tread a higher path and focus on that which transcends this world.
We only have a little time here to do what we can to reflect the light of Truth. That is all that matters.
      Peace, brother.

I started preserving a few things last week for the first time ever. This Sunday, this was the message God sent: Matthew 6:25-26 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Thankfully I'm self sufficient in fuelwood, water and electrical power, and will likely pull in woodgas and biogas in time. But from my own experience as a guy in the UK, community is a rare thing, and women don't want to put the work in....they want it readymade on a plate. That's why I've decided to go it alone from now on. Lessons learnt, and gate closed.

Wisdom. It’s hard to find people with the same values and work ethic. So I’m on my own too. Peace of mind instead of drama.

We built our farm with. Spade, Shovel, Fork, some compost, garden lime, gypsum and some seeds. We invested everything we had, €2,400 and sold my van to boost an extra €900.
Over the space of 5 years, I grew from 1 to 104 clients with a few restaurants. I built the farm up with money I first earned myself. No debt no drama. We rented so land costs where ongoing but €500 a month.
Was it hard, yes it was, was it worth it, oh my god yes

I live near a town of 1700. Drive 4 miles to work, and get a lot of overtime. My employer is always looking to hire people who are willing to learn and work.
