I was in Germany last Christmas till February I got extremely depressed and weak Not seeing the sun, i was not used to it.....literally seeing the sun for like 6hrs and it wasnt even that bright.... Obviously i googled alot of things. Drove to DM and bought some vitamin D and magnesium citrate.... And started feeling a little bit like myself
Because they block out the sun in winter in Germany, you can go for weeks without actually seeing it. You can only guess where it might be in the sky. This affects all of us, making us feel a bit down, but it’s even tougher on people who aren’t used to it.
We are just as depressed as anyone that comes to visit. That's why white Europeans are considered grumpy (my theory). I always travel end of november/beginning of December to canary islands for a week, that gives me the power to make it through the winter months.
I think it was four years ago when the radio announcer said: there has been a total of 23 minutes of sun for the past 3 months, the german governmnet has found that it may link to the high depression and s***ide rates in german winter and i was just standing there like “no shit” 😂
Yup, I'm from the States and lived in Germany for 6 yrs. I noticed during my first year the difference in the sunshine and how I was feeling (physically and mentally)...first thing my doctor told me was that I would need Vitamin D supplements. Then I moved from Germany to El Paso. My daughters and I burned because we weren't used to 300+ days of full sun. So we had to make sure we wore sunscreen, and my neighbors told us to carry umbrellas when we would take walks.
Very true. My ethnic background is West Indian/ South Asian, but I’ve lived in the northeast USA for all of my life…Dr. recently prescribed 50,000IU of Vitamin D once a week-not the first time this has happened. I didn’t understand why, but this video sheds light on it.
I’m Kenyan who lived in the UK for 10+ years and over time, I started to suffer from unexplainable low mood and seasonal depression. Needless to say, I am 5 years back home and I feel alive
She is speaking facts. My brown skin was protecting me from the sun damage, then I moved to the US for collage. After a year or so, my vitamin D level dropped significantly and I started having so many issues.
No she isn't I can go outside for 20 minutes in the sun and get my VIT D you let the ICE PEOPLE who lacked vitamin D in their evolution now tell you who had abundance the facts lolololol Melanin blocks vitamin D lololol only a EUROPEAN would say that
I notice I feel so much better when I visit Jamaica or other countries where it’s hot majority of the year. No fatigue or depression. I feel amazing. Living in America (natural born citizen) I’m always tired and exhausted.
That's weird @,Kenny... I suffer heat stroke if I stay outdoors for just a few hours.. O well, I am sure I would thrive in cloudy weather areas... I hate heat.
I am from Mexico and lived in Poland for 2 years. My skin started to get dry, mood webt down hill, my hair which was hydrated and my skin clear became a problem. Later on doctor told me to take vitamind d supplement.
I’m from Sudan, Africa. My family and I moved to Minnesota when I was 10. I’ve lived there for almost 20 years and HATED it. I moved and now live down in Sunny South Florida. 🏝️☀️
Glad you're sharing this. Smartest move. Good for you. If you're from a developing country & you're systemically relocated to a developed country, know you're being herded to where benefits the developed country, and not you...
I am from a Northern Europe Nordic country where it is always cloudy, misty and dark. We have white skin to absorb as much vitamin d as possible. This is also activated by uv hitting the eyes! This is why we have blue eyes. I moved to a sunny country, and my eyes hurt all day because the pupils are trying contract and become small to reduce the sunlight hitting my eyes. And I burn all the time, no matter how much sunscreen I put on. I overheat every summer. It's a real struggle! There's beauty in our differences and how our bodies adapt to our environment!
Adaptive traits can be detrimental if the environment changes. There are cats with NO FUR because of this. There are cats with HUGE LONG FUR because of this. Switch the cats. They both die. One of freezing, one of overheat.... Humans are no different.
They’re dying without exposure if two hours a day- and then they say it’s medical systemic racism when actually they’re too stupid to expose themselves to the sun for two hours a day - boo hoo - sick of hearing it.
I’m from Angola and moved to the US 5 years ago! I’ve never had so many health issues in my life! A lot of vitamins deficiencies! My skin became soooo dry! Depression and anxiety hit! Things only started to get better when I went to Brazil for a few months and the tropical weather was so good for me in General! That’s when I noticed what this lady is saying
Well I think you would have liked LOUISIANA that humid weather actually feels really good to me my skin was always good its not just the sun its that tropical climate never trust aWESTERN DOCTOR
@@FluffyWing07yup!!! That too! I forgot to mention how I had to change my entire diet! Because the food here is so bad! It really makes you sick! Specially if you’re not from here!

It can also be that in your country you were used to eat good natural quality food, full of nutrients. Whereas in the US the food is crap and riddle with chemicals and 0 nutrients in it. I have lived in 15 countries around the world and have never seen so many people with health issues like in the US. And that's the main reason.
In Iran, we have like 360 sunny days, out of 365 days of the year. I lived couple of years in Europe. Totally depressed the whole time. Especially in winter, which you could barely see the sun ☀️
I did a Dna test and I have roote going back to Iran and Sumeria, I didnt know that I find some closure in knowing the world is so much smaller than we have ever realized. It hurt finding out i have Iranian in me and than seeing Israel bombing my new found roots, it hurt I could have family still there it hits differently when you see a place and find out that you have blood ties to a country and a people now. *Fun Fact* : People living in the Northern Hemisphere had darker skin until about 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, when the advent of agriculture began to change their genetic makeup. The crops they grew lacked sufficient Vitamin D, which favored individuals with less melanin, as they were better able to produce Vitamin D from sunlight. Over generations, this led to the evolution of lighter skin tones in these populations. For people with darker skin living in the Northern Hemisphere today, Vitamin D deficiency can still be a concern, but it can be managed with a healthy diet or supplements. This issue is generally less severe than the reverse scenario, where lighter-skinned individuals live in sunny areas, as they are more prone to skin damage from sun exposure. The immediate effects of overexposure to the sun include skin irritation, first-degree burns, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Over time, repeated damage can lead to DNA mutations that may be passed down to future generations.
i live in Canada and maybe 6 months of the year there isn't any sun. Today doctor told me that my vitamin d levels are very low and that i should take vitamins.... also i think that explains why i've started to feel muscle pain and joint pain cause i don't expose myself that much to the sun.....it's crazy i didn't know that. when the sun comes out i'm gonna be out there and not neglect the sun anymore.....
Forreal as an iraqi born and raised in the Netherlands, my whole family inclusing myself vit d and iron deficient. Also we gain weight very quickly and lose it very slowly especially during winter times even though eating habits stay the same throughout the year. Whenever we go on holiday to warmer countries like greece, turkey or spain, we lose weight and feel some much better even though we’re eating double the amount of food (including more desserts) compared to when we’re back home. I now take vit d pills and omega 3 pills everyday in the morning and magnesium pills before bed and only now I’ve started to feel more energised and better!
This!!!January 2000 I was 12/13yrs old I was moved from Jamaica to NYC then later to Atlanta…I was so depressed for the first 5 months I was here…I cried every single day…summer came n it got hot and my mind and body n soul just felt better n I just stopped crying…In Tropical Jamaica I was used to going outside playing in the sun and hot beautiful weather everyday…even in the rain we were outsideee lol…then I came to Ny during an ice storm with freezing rain n blizzard winds n became depressed af…since then every winter I get depressed n I couldn’t explain why…til this!!! I always thought I was because I missed my grandmother n my friends, whole time it’s been the cold n lack of sun light💡
Hi, I'm Jamaican too and when I moved to NYC the same thing happened me. I'm depressed every fall/ winter.i hate this time of the year. The sky is gray , it's cold and there are no leaves on the trees. Mi miss mi yaad 😢
This in part happens to me. My parents are Caribbean (jamaican) but I was born here in the UK, I have suffered with various illnesses over the years but when I would go to jamaica all of a sudden many ailments were no longer an issue. In recent years my Dr recommended vitamin D and iron tablets- game changer! I needed the sun.
I am from Brazil, living in Switzerland. I am not only developed Vitamine D deficiency, but it affects my mental health and causes anxiety and depression. Took me a while to understand that this was related to the lack of sun.
I can totally relate. After 12 years living in the UK as an East African, I suffered from depression and low drive for life that I couldn’t shake even with high dosage of vit D. I left the UK and came back home to Kenya. I am much happier and healthier.
I’m from Brazil and lived in the UK 🇬🇧 for 17 years. The last 6 years living there I developed a chronic disease 🦠 ( visceral hypersensitive) I suffered agonized pain in my intestines and stomach and that affected my mental health. I came back to Brazil 🇧🇷 and now I’m free from pain. I’m not sure if the lack of a sun was related to the pain I had. I never took vit D while I was there because all supplements hurt my whole body and I couldn’t tolerate most of the things I was intake. I changed my lifestyle and stopped drinking. I have been living in Brazil for 5 years. I take a lot of sun, exercise, meditate and I pray a lot. My quality of life is much better now. I miss England s lot and would like to go back one day. The country is amazing but the lack of sun has been linked to higher rates of depression and anxiety 🥲🙏❤️God bless all.
@ravox.19 it's not about being black. My last 3,4 generations are no longer exposed to dark/cold periods, they are South Americans, and yes, if you are not used to that, it's very likely that some people will develop depression and other mental health problems. People like you probably will never know what this is, which explains the lack of empathy with those who face loads of health issues because of the lack of the sun.
This is what I told my five-year-old son when he asked me why people were different colors. No one told me, but I reasoned it out for myself, right on the spot.
That’s very true. I’m from California and we always see the sun. I moved to TN where it rains most of the year and from December-April, it’s pretty cold and gloomy. I got depressed and had to go to the doctor because of suicidal thoughts. I got my bloodwork done and my vitamin d levels were 12. It’s supposed to be between 20-60 mg/mL. I’ve been here for 7 years now and I still have to take supplements.
If your skin gets lighter this is a bad sign. You are loosing melanin. Melanin is very important throughout our bodies She is wrong we cannot supplement Vit D. People have to get it from sunshine 🌞
The reverse is true too. I'm as pale as a ghost living in South FL. Can't be outside longer than 5 minutes without sunscreen or I burn. So I avoid the sun, low and behold was severely Vit D deficient. When I'm in cold environments its like I can breathe again and feel like the sun isn't trying to kill me
Sunscreens contain carcinogens On purpose I'm white than ghost Refused to use them and never got sick with anything in 53 years of my life I also refused the you know what and the boosters. Y'all need to stop being so easily brainwashed!!!
I’m from Somalia i moved to Minnesota almost 3 years ago, i was good but later i feel bad my hair falls alot and i feel alot of things, this lady all she’s saying is so so true
So true, I moved to Arizona and at first I hated the heat and hot it was all the time but I adjusted and my mood since moving here last year has drastically improved.
I’m from Sweden and I don’t take vitamin D stuff. I don’t get how y’all get depressed by not seeing the sun. It’s dark in 4 pm so what? I’m a runner so I think the key to not being depressed is to stay healthy.
@@alfredberggren5985 we get vitamin d naturally from sun light, if there isnt enough sun light, the human body gets naturally depressed, its called a Vinther depression. but it effects some more then others, because we are all differently build, so even if you run, somebody else who runs as well might need it, even if you dont!
This is so true! I struggle when I’m further north compared to further south in Texas. If I take a trip north I tell my family it needs to be for two weeks because the fist week I’m sick in the hotel room all week. I need vitamin D and I’m ok. If I go south I feel more alive especially at the beach. I’m the darkest out of my whole family. I’m the only one that doesn’t burn in minutes in the sun. I don’t do cold very well though. I m from rajasthan, India (the place which have have 50° Celsius temperature in summer) In iur whole village only 10% people have dark skin. As a black man in america. I was a gamer and home body for many years. Barely went out much. When i got blood work done, all my levels were fine except for low potassium. I hardly ever was in the sun for many years. And i still was not vitamin d deficient. My diet was burgers and gatorade lol. Typical college guy. I may be an exception but i was just letting it be known.
@tiffany.Elizabeth. i totally agree and was going to say the same thing. Young men, please understand what you do now will catch up to you later (no sun and shitty food plus inactivity...or.whatever it is). We, Filipinos generally have brown or light brown skin, despite being near the equator. However, we also have indigenous groups here like the Aeta or Negritos with naturally darker skin.
Man I hated travelling to Europe (as a tourist) except when i reached italy. It was so dull, cold and depressing and there was rain too. Our tour company told us this is spring time and best time to travel the europe. 😢😢. I honestly wanted to ask for refund.
Well one of the reasons why I loved my trip to London UK was that I went in winter, it was super cold, it got super dark at 4 pm and it was fun to start early sightseeing places and because it was freezing cold we could walk for hours without feeling tired. Super cold, super dark, Hell Yeah bring it on again!!! 😂😂

Imagine being told you have a vitamin D deficiency, despite feeling fine and having no bone health issues. For many African Americans, this is the reality, thanks to a flaw in the standard vitamin D test that fails to account for key biological differences.
A study by John Aloia et al., published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (2015), reveals a key limitation in the standard vitamin D test for African Americans. The test measures total 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) without accounting for differences in vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP) levels. African Americans often have lower VDBP levels due to genetic factors, leading to lower total 25(OH)D readings. However, their levels of free 25(OH)D-the biologically active form-are comparable to those of European Americans. This discrepancy can cause the test to inaccurately diagnose vitamin D deficiency in African Americans, potentially leading to unnecessary supplementation. The study suggests that measuring free 25(OH)D would be a more accurate and equitable method for assessing vitamin D status across diverse populations. (Source: Aloia et al., JCEM, 2015, Free 25(OH)D and the Vitamin D Paradox in African Americans).
As a south african, UK weather depresses me. Ive mever been to the UK, but seeing the weather thru the screen, i instantly become lightskin and vitamin D deficient 🙏🏽
@kwanman5146 I'd argue that Northern Europe is a bit worse in terms of sublight, as there's places in Norway, Sweden and Finland where you absolutely get very little sunlight. Higher suicide rates too I think
As im Personally facing this issue and i can say what she said is 100% true. Im Indian currently working in Bahrain and trust there is Air Conditioning working 24hrs here no matter u are at work place, home or in any vehicle. People think there is enough sunlight in middle east but in reality most of Indians, Pakistani or Philippine faces this issue.
I’m a physician in high heat Texas and it’s rare for any of my white skinned patients to have normal vitamin D level unless they’re supplementing regularly with Vitamin D. Without regular supplementation, at best their vitamin D level approaches 29 or 30, which is the absolute bare minimum for what is “normal” much less what is considered “ideal” which is between 50 and 80. When you put on all of your sunblock armor to attempt to mimic the protection that melanin naturally offers what do you think happens to your already low vitamin D levels?
In Sweden, people with darker skin types need vitamin D replacement as they do not get the amount they need by a long way due to the climate here. But it is not enough, as diseases such as osteoporosis, depression and other diseases are more common among them than among us whites. We have different skin colors for a reason.
@@thomasvontruut - Osteoporosis and mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disease, etc are less common among whites compared to which group? There may be some health metric that your lack of melanin has offered a benefit or protection but that will be homework for you. The “internet health guru” is doing is actually doing a disservice to ppl with white skin giving them a false sense of comfort about their some natural ability to produce normal levels of vitamin D when in fact they very well may be even more deficient when you look at where they live in the world with far less sunlight, more use of 99% sunblock, and heavily processed, low nutrient western diet.
As a native Iberian who is born white but once unintentionally tanned and became darker than most black people, I love being of the Mediterranean master race.
Sun is for everyone, it's makes up your day, we might have adapted but everyone needs sun to feel alive, btw nobody is ISC & South east asia is bathing in the sun all day, most of the people avoid sun like vampires, Tan/darker skin is looked down on and almost frowned upon generally, the market for skin whitening products are in $$$Billions and having a fair pale skin is rewarded in the society, jobs, promotions, media, relationships, pretty much every aspect of life. Please Don't bother to tell me otherwise because I'm Asian with a Tanned skin, i know what it's like.
This might be tied to seasonal affective disorder although I have a better term that I’ve coined climate affective disorder. Sudden changes in air pressure/quality. Amount of sunlight and temperature/humidity affect our moods too much sun we feel sick, hot tempered dehydrated. Too little, we feel weak, sleep changes, appetite changes. Temperature goes down you feel more sluggish and withdrawn temp goes up (but not hot) you feel more relaxed happy energetic. It’s part of the circadian rhythm it’s like hibernation summer weather comes (you feel like going out more) winter weather comes you feel like staying inside and watching movies all day. Spring and fall you’re somewhere in between
Fun fact: neanderthals, denisovans, and homo sapiens are the reason why we have different races. The sun plays a big part in the melanin in our skin, but some places in Asian have very similar temperatures to places in Europe. But they’re different because those in Europe are part Neanderthal, those in Asia are part denisovan, and those from Africa are full Homo sapiens. I’m pretty sure I got those names right, I’m open to any new information on this, I would love to learn more if you have any cool facts 😃
I'm pretty sure you're completely wrong here. All human beings are homo sapiens, not just Africans. Homo Sapien is simply the word for the modern human being. We, still to this day, don't 100% know what skin color Neanderthals or Denisovans were, as there isn't enough collective evidence. Neanderthals are depicted with white skin and colored eyes solely because we found some traces that they could potentially have the genes to have lighter skin and eye colors, but that doesn't mean they actually had them. Similarly, we know even less about the appearance of the Denisovans. Also, the division of which races took more Denisovan or Neanderthal genes are also not as cut and dry as you claim. In fact the race with the highest amount of Neanderthal DNA are not Europeans, but Asians. Asians also have the highest amount of Denisovan DNA, but this comes mostly from Southeastern Asian countries in particular. Asia is at the center of Russia, which allows (and would have allowed ancient people) contact with almost every different kind of human alive, researchers even finding evidence of white European mummies in China, for instance. The reason we have different skin colors today is rounded up as basically the result of environment (so temperature and sunlight), as well as genetics. Europe isn't as cold as other countries like Canada, and yet Native Americans didn't develop lighter skin than Europeans. Why? Because while Europe isn't that cold, it's extremely dark and rainy all year round. In fact, much of the temperate forests in the UK and Ireland, for instance, are considered rain forests due to the level of moisture and rain present within them year round. And so, Europeans developed white skin in order to not suffer the vitamin deficiencies of other dark skinned races while living in dark and rainy Europe for tens of thousands of years, and Africans did the same in Africa by developing melanin to survive the brutal amounts of sun they get year round. Whether or not Neanderthals or Denisovans had anything to do with this evolution is still unclear. However there are theories that Neanderthal DNA is what caused such variation in eye and hair color amongst Europeans, who have higher amounts of this variation amongst any other race.
Race is not scientific. We appear different based on skin tone and features but our species intermingling with other species did not create race. Race was created in order to create categories of people in order to progress political ideologies. It’s not real and its relied on heavily when there is nothing scientific about it.
This is actually not 100% true. What you said is true about Europeans having Neanderthal blood and asians having Denisovan blood and Africans being 100% Homo Sapiens, but that is not why we have different races and the traces of blood we have from Neanderthals and Denisovans is very little. We have different races because we were in different parts of the world and underwent evolution independently. Like Asians evolved independently from Europeans. Europeans evolved lighter skin tones because their environment lacked sunlight and had to be lighter skinned to be able to absorb more Vitamin D from the sun. People near the equator needed to be darker skinned because they had more sunlight. And generally they all evolved independently because they were far away from each other.
@@beluwhaleoftheisland7247 it was evolution just simple adaptations of the same race, homo sapiens. And then there are a minute number of homo sapiens with neanderthal and denisovan blood. Like 0.0000001% lol. And even then you can be any "race" and have neanderthal traces
I was born and raised in Ghana, been in America for 10years. And just started taking vitamins D supplements because my nerves kept messing up. This makes so much sense. Some exposure to early sunlight fixes vitamin D deficiency real quick. If you're a woman then you'd need it real quick or your bones might weaken, on top of it, osteoporosis happens among females real quick. If you're a guy then you'd need capsules real quick or the good ol method of being under sunlight until we turn into red meat skewers

I'm light skin, live in northeast US, and am always vitamin d deficient. So its not only those with melanated skin, it could by anyone living in these areas. Its good to spend half hour in the sun between 12-2 pm daily. This helps your skin absorb and process vitamin D.

This is something I learned a few years ago. I’ve been taking vitamin D ever since and I finally find dark winters more bearable and less depressing.

Must suck for you to only appreciate sunny weather.
I love that im okay with winter and darkness. Interesting how different we are.
In Minnesota for last 33 yrs. After a few years, developed epileptic symptoms. Would occasionally freeze up (maybe once a quarter). That expanded to actually fainting once or twice a year. Went on medication which left me depleted. Starting taking Vit D 3-4 yrs ago. Been fine since (doctors made no such suggestion, as it was not in their best interest for me not to be on meds).
So fkn true. I’m from Western Africa and I live in the coldest region in the world. Siberia Russia. ngl during winter I’m always SAD, SOBER, name it all. Guess everyone got the region, we’re just tryna explore more and for more people get a better life. It comes with a price

I'm very white. I'm happier under the umbrella of overcast.
We knew this already. Our black scholars keep us informed 🔥but thank you for sharing. Appreciate ya.
Yeah, but I’d rather take a vitamin than be black
In Sweden, people with darker skin types need vitamin D replacement as they do not get the amount they need by a long way due to the climate here. But it is not enough, as diseases such as osteoporosis, depression and other diseases are more common among them than among us whites. We have different skin colors for a reason.
People need to hear this more. Thank you. I've been listening to Dr Jack Kruse recently whose also preaching it.
I'm taking vitamin D she is speaking facts.👍👍👍
Thank u this is why we have skin color. Character is not our skin! 💜🙏💜😇
Spring and fall you’re somewhere in between
I experienced this. She’s speaking the truth
I once met an African-origin lady who was from the UK and France. She was grey!
@ thank you for sharing your knowledge. That’s great to learn!! 😊

If you're a guy then you'd need capsules real quick or the good ol method of being under sunlight until we turn into red meat skewers

Its good to spend half hour in the sun between 12-2 pm daily. This helps your skin absorb and process vitamin D. Taking a supplement of 1000- 2000 mg per day helps too, but excess vit D is not good either.
