    For the glitching i think it just a bit too high for the obs settings that the computer couldn't keep up? check out the stats in OBS to see where it lags

    I just used my FX30 as a web cam yesterday for the first time. It's super easy. Plug and play.

      It really is! I edited out a part where I mention that you don't need any software like the Sony Imaging App like older cameras do

      Has anyone found out why there is a glitch when you use the HDMI with a capture card? Is there a better way to make sure that you can live stream in 4K on tools like zoom from your Mac with this camera? I noticed the glitch when recording into OBS or using any otherwebinar meeting service

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@itschrislamm My HDMI out was insanely glitchy when I made this video, but I don't think it's the camera... 🤔
      ... But it could be. I'd try a different cable if that doesn't fix it, see if I could source a different capture card to see if that's the problem (not an easy or cheap thing to do, I know).
      But in all my years messing with this stuff, HDMI out has been pretty reliable but there are definitely more things that can go wrong

      I’m not using the atem and have tried an 8k hdmi direct and the flickering happens with zoom and obs? Anyone find a solution in settings or a better cord? I’m also using a capture card (elgato).

      @@itschrislamm I would start by trying a different HDMI cable. You don't need anything crazy expensive or high bandwidth

    what did you use to film in the very beginning

    • @PhillipRPeck

      Hmm... Good question. I think it was the FX30 and the Sony FE 35 f/1.8. It looks like a 50mm-ish look. I think I filmed in 30fps since I was talking about live streaming and it seemed appropriate, so it has a bit of that soap opera smooth motion

    I was curious of what lens is best for live streaming with the FX30?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hard for me to say without knowing more about your setup and what kind of look you're going for. But my general go to's for talking to camera lenses are a 15/16mm or a 23mm. The 15/16mm if you have a tight space, want a wider look, or want to be closer to the camera. 23mm for a more standard look, further away from the camera but still a good amount of surroundings.
      Anything from Sony or Sigma would be a good choice if you, especially if you want tracking AF. Viltrox and Tamron also make good lenses but I'm not sure what they have in terms of focal lengths.
      Hope that helps, but tell me more about your setup (and budget) if you want more specifics

    Hi Phillip I want to know is it possible to record directly at my laptop hard drive via sony fx30 hdmi and camlink connection if I do not want to record internally in the camera.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, you just need some software to record to like OBS, which is free, or Riverside, Streamyard, Ecamm, or XSplit (just to name a few)

  • @husratmehmood2629
    @husratmehmood2629 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Perfect explanation but can you tell which fps does hdmi via capture cards support? is it 4k30fps or 4k60fps i guess via camlink its 4k30fps ? my second question . why can not we use full size hdmi to full size hdmi at our macbook pro why do we need capture card?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The capture card should be able to support whatever frame rate you want to send it. You can do 24/25, 30, or 50/60. Some can even go to 120.
      That's a good question and one that I am not qualified to give an accurate answer for, but I'd guess that there is dedicated hardware that is required to take the camera information over HDMI and convert it into actual moving images and that hardware is not built into a computer. I don't know why it can be done over USB and not HDMI (USB streaming is much more limited, however), but, that's the way it is unfortunately.

    • @husratmehmood2629
      @husratmehmood2629 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PhillipRPeck thank you so much for replying, I did some research here is it. HDMI is one directional either it can send or receive so laptop HDMI is build to output only so it can not get input signal. so is the TV/LED it can either receive or transmit through one hdmi port.
      But yes there is alternative it is via Thunderbolt ports. I will figure out any way for that.

      @@solarion33It doesn't matter. The important thing is that the camera can be set to a 4K mode. The signal is converted over the HDMI bandwidth into the ATEM. You will still get better quality this way as opposed to setting the camera to 1080p internally

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the FX30 can send 4K 60 out via HDMI, so it will depend on the capture card if you're able to stream at that resolution and frame rate. I think the CamLink is limited to 4K 30.

      @davidson.mp4 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PhillipRPeck can this be related to the fact that it is plugged by USB-C to USB-A and not USB-C to USB-C (so no power delivery)?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm... I'm not sure about that. I think the charging cables that come with Sony cameras are USB-A to USB-C and that's the type of cable I used to power the camera during these live stream tests using the supplied Sony charging brick. I think it has more to do with the fact that the charging cable is limited to 5V and the camera is drawing more than that while in use. It's using more power than is being delivered over USB, hence it is still draining the battery but more slowly

    hey Phillip , big fan here , been watching your super honest reviews and i love your channel the most because you are not a M rider of any BRAND. I wanted to make this comment/request to you , i recently got gifted a fx30 and also18-50 sigma also a sirui 35 1.33 anamorphic from my uncle who is a very busy videographer and i used to take film photos as a hobby. after getting the camera , i can do pretty much all sound edits , video masking , transition , after effects animations and all those things , but i suffer in color grading. i SUFFER a lot , like a lot a lot , i watched couple of youtube videos but nope i thought something is missing , i always shoot slog3 and do 1.7 exposure and not i simply apply LUTS . But i am not being able to achieve those cinematic looks. i have come up to such a point that it really scares me to even try to learn grading again from a different course or another youtube channels . it would be a great help if you could make a youtube series or a course to help people like me . watching you for this long , ill feel great to even buy your course because over the time i have been watching something video related on youtube , you are the only youtuber i trust. Thanks
