It's a formula that's spawned a wave of "Stunt Food"-food whose sole purpose is to rack up likes on your Instagram feed. Chefs may not crave this kind of food, but it's no secret that they're also natural competitors. When they see something on their social feed, their first instinct is to say "I can do it better." So in the spirit of duking it out in the kitchen, Alvin goes head-to-head with Top Chef alum Ilan Hall to see who has the chops to make the craziest, most gonzo Stunt Burger. And they've got an all-star panel of judges-Sean Evans, Matty Matheson, Miss Info-to see if they've gone too far.

He is a walking heart attack waiting to happen. The fact he's not dead yet is pure luck. He seems like a good guy genuinely. But seeing good people doing this to themselves is sad and concerning.

I still mix things together. Bleach and acid, in proper ratios, is great for cleaning. I do it for home brewing. Improper mixing can lead to problems.

Holy shit this video is wild creative. Let's ignore the creativity on screen, I fucking loved how the first half of the video is like the protagonist of the video are these two chefs, but then when the judges come out it's like no, this is our video actually, we're the real heroes here. It's a shared spotlight. It's a community effort. It's magical, it's different. Like imagine if I started vlogging but the video ended with three other people vlogging, madness pure madness.

Here's my thought on how to make Ilan's burger more douchey/IG-friendly:
You've got the bahn mi ingredients and the poutine ingredients, but when it's all stacked together, you can't really make out what's going on in there. Also, it looked like the roll he used was smaller so it was more burger bun-sized.
Go for a full-sized french roll and serve the thing up open-faced. Have the burger and the bahn mi fixings on one side, and have the poutine and pulled pork on the other side. You can see more of the ingredients. You can tell that it's poutine AND bahn mi in one sandwich. Then, if people actually want to eat it, they can smush it together after taking pictures.
Ilan, I gotchu. DM me next time you're doing one of these.
p.s. You can be an even bigger asshole and stick a Canadian flag on the poutine side and a Vietnamese flag on the bahn mi side.

+Van P. - that's not really true. If all you've ever eaten in your life is McDonalds, ramen and frozen dinners, your palette hasn't been exposed to the spectrum of what is possible as far as good/better/best. Many flavors need to be learned to appreciate them - they might not even taste great the first time, but you then learn to appreciate their uniqueness, especially when they are done 'right'. You might think a Shake Shack burger is the best thing in the world after eating only McDonald's. But Matty has eaten foods from all over the world by the best renowned chefs, therefore has more perspective on what might be a 10 out of 10 in the full scope of what is possible.
b minor I bet the people on that panel have eaten at other places/things than McDonald's, cheap ramen, and frozen dinners though. Just a hunch...besides it's all relative I've travelled a lot and had plenty of "real" food but I'll be damned if you take away my McNuggets lol

Thank god for Alvin on this channel. Gone are the cringy days of Sean competing in these cooking competitions; barely even able to keep from burning cereal. He's a great interviewer, host, and judge, but needs some practice before he joins any more competitions.

I would definitely agree with you if this was about judging which burger is culinarily better. My gut reaction was like 'I love sean, but he aint no expert on burgers', but then I realized the premise wasn't the better burger, it was the better instagram pic, and when it comes to social media, they all winning, so it's more legit.

Poutine and Vietnamese probably shouldn't be combined. That's too many flavors.
burger is also drastically under-cooked.
Although the baseball burger is a bit of a meatloaf. Bad meat to bread ratio. Needed more onions at least too. Also i'd change up the cheese in the center with maybe a goat cheese.
On top of that, he put paté and sriracha on it. It's not so much too many flavors as too many *strong* flavors. Honestly, just seemed like a hot mess. Alvin's coulda used more onions or some pickles, but altogether seemed much more appetizing.
