The Remains Collection is taking ceramic waste and recycles it into minimalist dinnerware. A collaboration between Simple Dwelling and Claire Ellis Ceramics, the collection embodies simplicity and environmental consciousness.
The plates and bowls were designed with minimalist principles, with a low lip creating a defined edge and providing a frame for your dish. The bowl's form simply becomes an extrusion of the plate's lip. Modern, simple forms and clean lines.
What makes this dinnerware collection stand out from others is the reduction of its carbon footprint by diverting two of the biggest ceramic waste streams from landfills by using 75% repurposed material in the form of sink sludge and cracked or damaged ceramic pieces. The bespoke glaze recipe was developed specifically for this collection, with a clear satin glaze with eggshells that celebrates the recycled clay.
Adopting the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in the imperfection, the slight irregularities from piece to piece are embraced and celebrated, reflecting the unique beauty of using recycled materials.

Beautiful table ware 🤩. The audio from the ceramists was a bit difficult to hear, but I think I got the idea behind the concept. Well done both of you 👍😁👏

The word you are looking for is reclaim. It isn't sludge or waste. It's not like you are collecting trash from the beach front and making something new or even pallet furniture. It's just a common practice among potters that is a millennia old to make bland beige slip cast flatware.

Unfortunately, I have only a vague idea of what this video was about. The ceramicist mumbled so much that I understood little of what she said. The captions did not help much either, as being auto caption, it also did not understand what she said. This is a shame. I usually enjoy your videos, but as a person with reduced hearing, I found this a poor video.
