McLaren P1 vs Ferrari F40 drag race - one of the most unusual drag races ever!
Tiff gets behind the wheel of one of the original P1s, the Series Prototype 1, owned by British GT Champion Graham (https: grahamdavidson47) and Paul is in an F40 that's definitely no garage queen, owned by car collector Joe ( / luckyssupercars .
Let's be fair, this is much more of a procession than a race, but so good to see what a couple of decades of engineering can do!

The P1 is a wonderful technological achievement. The F40 wasn't high tech in 1987. It never needed to be, it has everything else anyone could want in a supercar and a lot more in terms of soul.

Please do the p1 vs 720s. With warm tires and good conditions. Drag and rolling race. At this point your the only channel that has given me hope that this race can happen.

Older Tiff Needell seems less hyper than young Tiff Needell, and comes across as even more of a gentleman than the gentleman I know he’s always been.
Also, as much as the P1 is special, it’ll never have the true intensity and fever of an F40.

The P1 isn’t 9 years old. It was unveiled in 2013 a week before Geneva.
barely 6 years old, it first delivered in late 2014, they make everything seem ancient ffs
F40 is much quicker then that. Guy driving it like a grandma. 1/4 mile in 11.5!
The transmission requires a lot of finesse in an f40. The guy is probably used to rhd cars.

Wow nice race wedid enjoy it even from far away here in southafrica. Pole did a grate job with suchwhat a car and Tiff was a real gentleman as hedid pay tributation to the Ferrari in a manner. Remember we are all here to support you as we also lovecars full to the Max. Blessings unto thee.

What a wasted opportunity. Yes we all know the F40 would be slower, but why not actually show the difference by staying on the power in the P1? And if you did want to save the F1 clutch, do a rolling start. Waste of 7 minutes.

Why does the McLaren only have a three point belt? My 300zx turbo would leave bruises on your chest with a three point belt braking as hard as you could and I am pretty sure the P1 can generate more braking force.

Why the heck not do a rolling race so we get at least some feeling of comparison ? Why would you even do a drag race since everyone knows the owner is very unlikely going to launch it properly due to price of the car/ possible expense if broken. While launching doin a rolling race is no problem and you can use the full power....

Either do a proper drag race or rolling race or dont bother. Whats the point of one car launching hard full bore while the other trails along gingerly after it.

Why not do a rolling start to save the clutch?
These videos aren't real world for a fact untill they don't use a right mode starting the F40 from the line or jumping from a roll with both engines on boost.
Modern turbo engines are also faster to spin boost from the low band of the engine power, so these is double no sense starting from zero.

I would be really interested to see you do some 0-60 times in reasonably fast manual cars eg 911 etc but accelerating as you would do on the road if you were pulling away from the lights as fast as you reasonably would in the real world on the road, just to see how it compares to the manufacturer figures.

Some will call it sacrilege, but there remains very little romance about those old turbos on the F40 from the 80's. Laggy, inefficient. I admire the cashed up American, crowd, most of them cashed up Texans owning these 40's. It is entirely reversible too for you 'so-called' purists. All she needs is a new pair of 'today' turbos, intercooler, exhaust and brakes and she'd still shine today...Enzo would say :- Si....

I loved the F40 when it was released. One model I had as a kid. I'm still a Ferrari fan but more of a performance fan than nostalgic so ill take the Maclaren or a Ferrari 458 or maybe a Porsche gt2!
