Oh my goodness, when cheddar almost went in your dahlias, that’s awesome! I love how real your videos are. That’s life. Cats and children, noises in the neighborhood. All of these things happen. I guess that’s why your videos resonate with so many people because you’re just like one of us and we can relate.

Tip: Flower Hill Farm saves the yellow bulb bags and puts all the newly separated tubers in bags with their one tag so you don't have to worry about labeling every single tuber. Then she places the whole bag back into storage until they are ready to be planted.

Hey Laura and Aaron…..and I can’t leave out your adorable helper in today’s video……Benjamin! What a cutie patootie! Thank you for sharing your family and everyday life with us! Like so many of your viewers, I look forward to sitting down with a cup of coffee and TH-cam to see what adventure Garden Answer has in store for the day!
You are going to have a HUGE inventory of dahlia tubers this year! I can’t wait to see what you send to Miss Jenny at Creekside! I know she’s looking forward to starting her dahlia collection!
I anticipate you still having A LOT of tubers in your inventory after sharing with Jenny, family and friends.
***** I feel a GIVEAWAY coming (hint, hint)!!!!
I would be more than willing to pay for shipping (and some extra moolah) to have some of your tubers growing in my garden! In fact, I know of the perfect spot to create a new area in my garden dedicated to Laura’s Dahlia Tubers! What a fun conversation piece that could be.
What can we do to nudge you into a giveaway?

Are you still sending some tubers out to Jenny?
Jenny will love whatever you send her, I was watching how she and Jerry have started to prep the ground ready for the Dahlias 😃
I’m sharing some with a lady who is like a mum to me (Mammy Pam) because of how mine multiplied last year.
I’m also going to leave some in the ground over winter. And Yes dividing Dahlias looks so scary and intimidating but I’m going to do it because of wanting too share with others.
I experimented with my Ranunuculus from last year and left a couple in a planter outside, and they have sprouted and have some lovely leaves on them.

My late husband grew the most beautiful dahlias, in fact bringing me big dahlia bouquets is partly how he wooed me when we started dating when he was just a young man. He cared for them similarly to you, very lovingly digging them up each fall, wrapping in newspaper and dividing in the spring. I’ve since moved from that large property and have a smaller garden now, and after watching this, I’m inspired to try growing dahlias myself this year, in his memory. Thank you Laura! 🌺🌸🌼

I live in VA and I leave mine outside every winter and they're always beautiful come next growing season. I separate them after they're done blooming and their leaves turn completely yellow. I don't know if I'm doing it the best way, but it was the way my mom and others I know do it so I've been following their lead. 🤷

Laura, at around 8:35 you cut off the rotten tuber. You can save it! Just cut it above the rot, let it heal over and it will grow just fine! It’s got a nice sprout so it clearly wants to grow! Larger tubers like that actually benefit from being cut in half. The smaller they are, the more willing to spit out feeder roots than bigger ones are. I hope you see this!!

My question to you is, can I save store bought dahlia bulbs after they are done blooming and grow them again in the next season? I was so pleased and happy to see them bloom a second season in the same pot and the same soil. I repeated this method for the second winter and hope to have the same results...it was so worth it.

I'm so excited, I ordered my tubers and they should be here in April! I have several varieties coming and can't wait to see all the gorgeous blooms. My plan is to put these in a memorial garden and I wanted to plant these around a Fire Light hydrangea standard. I'm in North West Iowa in zone 5b. Would these be okay to plant together? My soil consists of Loess Hills silt, what would you amend this soil with? I believe my soil is more alkaline as all of my blue hydrangeas turned pink without adding anything to my soil. Seeing all these pretties make me so excited for Spring!
I live in Western Kentucky, zone 6b, and in my years of watching my mom grow dahlias, she would always try to winter hers over in the ground and they just never made it back up the next year. That poor lady put all the leaves and mulch she could but still had no luck. She was intimidated by the storing process so she always ended up planting new ones the next season. I just don’t want you to lose some of your favorites if you decide to leave them in the ground. Best of luck this year!

So many tubers! It might be fun to do a Tuber Giveaway to your viewers.
Today I was looking at the bags of bulbs and saw a beautiful Star Elite Daliah. And you know I was feeling for the three parts of the anatomy like Laura taught me. Body? Check. Damage-free neck? Check. Eye or growth point? Check. In the buggy it goes. Thanks Laura.

Thank you for the refresher Laura. I love making my first cup of coffee and watching your videos. I saw on the Creekside videos where they got a bed ready just waiting for some of your tubers. Just curious because they are in a warmer zone when you will ship the tubers to them? Thank you for introducing us to their website. I enjoy watching your videos first then theirs.

I watched your video last year on how to store dahlias, can’t wait to see how it did! My grandkids got me a stunning variety with flowers the size of dinner plates, I’m praying they did ok in the paper bags I stored them in.

We’re in a slightly warmer zone but have the same red clay soil as Jenny. I bought a couple of dahlia tubers to try this year in pots and will see how it goes for her before planting in the landscape next year. Between the two of you, I’m learning a lot. Just as important, it gives me more confidence to try new things as a beginner. Thanks for all you do! My flowerbeds (and husband) thank you too! He actually enjoyed the massive bubblegums filling the flowerbed last year instead of the usual weeds.

Holy cow! 18 crates. You have infinite patience! I grew dahlias a few years ago but stopped. Not sure why as they have the best blooms. I have slug issues in my garden and I used to put copper rings around the base of the plants to keep them away. It works. Anyway your video has encouraged me to plant them again. Thanks. 🌺

I live in zone 6b in SW Missouri. I left 10 Dahlias in the ground this winter. I covered them with about a foot and a half of straw. We have had a typical 6b winter. I expect my dahlias to be just fine. I have used this method before with success.

Plastic wrapped worked perfectly for my first year storing dahlias over winter. I put the wrapped tubers in a cardboard box in a temp controlled wine fridge. I had zero loss. This year I will have way too many tubers to individually wrap so I’ll prob try your vermiculite method. Thanks for the demo and all your videos!

I'm a "pot gardener" too in 5B. Do you have any recommendations for part-sun (4-6 hrs/day)?

    • @luciearrell6864
      @luciearrell6864 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@debweideman8319 That's probably the toughest area, I have a flower bed area in the front that falls under that. I have hostas already and will add more. Plus I am going to try hydrangeas this year. Geraniums seem to grow anywhere so that's a good bet. I think you could do any sun plants there they just won't grow as big as they would in the sun. Good luck to you and to all of us..lol. Can't wait to plant!!!
