Been waiting for around a week now! Saw it on their podcast. Love this style of content.
As a Mach-E driver, this hurts seeing the experience when using the built-in navigation. Luckily I use Electrify America almost exclusively and just travel to those stops for my road trips, but it sucks that Ford's navigation couldn't integrate the data better.
Does it have CarPlay or Android Auto, so you don´t have to use the small phone screen?

@@SuperwurstLP the car has android auto/CarPlay so if the EA app supports that, the you should be golden honestly.
I feel like the whole "public" charging situation in the US is also a bit tricky. Over here in Germany, we're starting to see more public chargers then Tesla Super Chargers. Every Autobahn Gasstation has at least 2 Fast Chargers and a bunch of trickle chargers. And 90% of the Fast Chargers are on the same netwok or subscription and are usually well maintained. FasdNet and EnBW cover alsmost all of Germany and FasdNet and IONITY cover the rest of Western Europe. I mean, it's probably much easier to maintain the chargers over here cause all of the countries are smaller. My dad drives a Mach E too and never had any issues by going with the built in navigation neither does my mom in her ID.3. Although I wish the Ford would show the charging speeds and operator of the chargers becasue we usually try to aviod IONITY because they're much more expensive then EnBW and FasdNEt.
@@SebiKoerner I wish I could say the same for the UK. It's far from uncoming to pull up at a Supercharger that has 8 or 12 150kw stalls, then 2 50kw other brand stalls of which one is almost always broken.
The single time I've not used the Supercharger network (And I've driven from the north of the UK to the south coast of France) was when I was doing a roadtrip around the north coast of Scotland.
The 'ChargePlace Scotland' chargers REALLY sucked. All 50kw, some with broken screen backlights, some with no power at all, others with broken RFID readers or ones that won't authorise because the machine has no internet connection. It was a hot mess.
To this date, I've never had a single broken Supercharger. I've seen one or two stalls be out of service and owners in the queue for it letting you know on arrival that they're out of service, but I've never not been able to charge. The Supercharger network is reliable and if you'll arrive with low SoC you know it will work, almost 100% guaranteed. I just wish I could say that for other networks... :)

I love how Team Gasolina is all about food, coffee and sightseeing. No concerns about mileage, battery percentages. Just good old stress-free road tripping.

Tbf, tesla’s is good but still sparse in certain areas (where i live in houston, the closest supercharger is 7 miles away, so 13 minutes of travel just to get a charge, albeit charging at home is a better option than going all the way over there)
@@cupid3890 yeah superchargers are meant for road trips. The closest one to me is like 20 miles away but it’s right off the highway and I can charge at home without issue. Tesla is slower than gas, but I’d take that cuz autopilot is so good.
I guess that’s what more than a hundred years of evolution gives you. Can’t wait to see what EVs will be like in half that amount

The struggle was real for the Mustang EV team, it sucks that car manufacturers want to look good on paper while giving people a subpar experience, simply because their competition is too good at it.

Like Marques described, this is so much like the charging on iPhones vs Android phones.
Ford is already eating into the Tesla market share, people are even willing to pay markup for Mach-E. Now that GT is out, the game is getting even more interesting. Ford is still ramping up production, they are making only about 50k cars this year, but they can easily sell 10 times more. And F-150 coming next year, it's a naturally born killer, the demand will be huge. Tesla is so yesterday, unless they up their game they will be a history in a few short years.

-Tesla is also still ramping up production, and are aiming to sells millions of cars per year in the next few years, so that point was irrelevant.
-Ford F-150 Lightning is awesome in my opinion, but it's not better than the Cybertruck, and by the way, the Cybertruck has a lot more demand, around 1.5 million preorders (most hyped and anticipated EV in history).
-Tesla's technology is much much better, and they are pushing innovation (they are the future).
Seems like someone didn't actually read the comment they replied to, because the comment you replied to was actually talking about how Ford and other automakers have terrible charging infrastructure, and are not reliable at all so far.

Mach-E charge curve drops off a cliff after 80%, when on the road don't charge to 100% each time.
Once you are at 80% just go. Unless you actually need the whole battery it is a waste of time.

I mean, the same is pretty true for Tesla as well. It gets to the point where it's just not efficient. The curve is different, but Marques never charged past 80% during the trip either.

Having spent tons of time in lake placid, grown up in Syracuse, and currently living near Watertown this video was a trip (no pun intended). I love this channel.
To be honest, from what I saw, the most enjoyable ride is the gasolino team. They have the proper roadtrip.
You guys need to do more of these! Just love seeing everyone laid back, having fun!

I waited for this since yesterday after they uploaded the video in MKBHD channel. This trip seems fun! Miss the days we can have roadtrips. My country still having high covid cases, so interstate travels are still not allowed. On another note, love this kind of behind the scenes videos, love this channel!

The Mach-E situation shows the big problem with the current infrastructure, the companies putting the chargers need to work together and create a standard with all the information necessary so the cars can grab that data and actually make a usable network for EV cars and manufacturers should be putting a lot of pressure to make this happen or it will hurt their sales a lot... also they need to make their chargers more reliable.
Atleast brendon and david were together. In one review from out of spec motoring channel and the guy was alone and every charger he went it was either broken or kept failing and he had to skip lunch and dinner to make sure charger worked on the Mach-E. Just seeing that makes everyone realise just how much better the Tesla Charging network really is!

The Mach E was the more interesting car, but the Audi team had more fun with the stops they were allowed to take due to their lead.

Really love the more in depth look on this trip! I'm still annoyed that various electric chargers require you to download an app to use their system instead of just the option and pay by card/phone. Imagine going to a random gas station and having to download their app just to pump gas, that would be insane!

Nothing like that super charging network. You guys need to shoot these kinds of videos more often. I'll watch these ten times over. I'm also a big fan of the road trips. You guys should do more road trips. They make for great content.

The problem isn't Ford, it's non standardized charging networks. Every gas pump is the same, every electric charging station should be too. Tesla and Ford are just as much at fault for this shitty network as everyone else.
@@Heyec I think the main difference between Tesla in Ford, at least in this vid, is that Tesla will tell you when a charger is used or out of service. Ford doesn’t seem to have that kind of communication between the charging company and the cars. I agree tho, every charging station should just be that same and they should all work.
@@Heyec if ford uses those networks it is ford's problems. These were apparently "ford approved". Ford needs to do better to show real time whether these are out of order or not at the least
It has nothing to do with Ford. Tesla needs to open its network to other EVs.

This is the type of testing I like to see for electric cars. I don’t care what range it gets when I cruise at 15 under the speed limit with every accessory turned off because no one drives like that.
There video just keep getting better and better it seems like and i literally love it.
Nice video, only hard to hear everybody saying 250 kilowatt-hour chargers. Those are units of stored energy (as in the battery!), whereas the charger deliveries power (just kilowatt). It’s like saying it has a 60 miles per hour range!

Your videos are great and to the point! You have asked a very important question and I would take this as an opportunity to answer with a reason that I think is important for all of us to know. My next purchase will be a Plug-in-Hybrid. The reason: It has enough electric range for more than 80% of the consumer commute as they travel less than 40 miles per day. In other words these cars will consume at least 80% less gasoline. And when it has to be driven longer (about 20% of the time), the gasoline engine will kick in without any fear of being stranded eliminating the range anxiety. The other benefit of plug in hybrid is that for the same amount of battery as pure electric car, 5 times more plug in hybrid cars can be manufactured. I think if car companies instead take this practical approach, we will see a greater acceleration towards the sustainability.
Like road trips from my college days...or transatlantic flights between North America and Europe. The journey is the adventure and the destination is finally arrived!

Great video. And while I think this experiment was still valuable and the results valid, the choice of Mach-E was probably the wrong choice vs other EVs. Its charge curve is horrible. Peak charging only happens briefly, and then it crawls. Would love to see this repeated some time in the future with other vehicles.
We chose the Mach-E because it's been wildly popular amongst EV buyers, and because it has some of the best range in a non-Tesla EV. That being said, we plan on doing this sort of experiment every year or so with different vehicles to see how selection/charging networks change over time!
@@hayatohuseman that's fair! Curious if based off the learnings from this first try if you think the teams would be allowed to pre-plan a little more? Maybe use apps like PlugShare or ABRP to pick chargers that are functional and optimize time at chargers? Or, still mostly use the built-in nav? Though I absolutely do agree with the criticism that these manufacturers need to be pulling in way more info into their systems if they want to compete with Tesla and provide the best experience to their customers.
@@cruiz91 It’s possible, but we wanted to try to replicate the average driver’s experience as much as we could. This meant avoiding using any third-party sites or apps that a lot of people wouldn’t know to use.
@@hayatohuseman makes sense. My only counter there would be I do think a lot of average people use Apple CarPlay / Android Auto rather than the built-in systems. They'd use Google Maps to nav to chargers, or potentially the ChargePoint / EA / ABRP apps that are supported in CarPlay and AA. Just food for thought! Regardless, love this kind of content and can't wait to see more.

I love these type of road trip videos especially for electric vehicles because it keeps me informed on if I am able to really take one on a road trip or to only keep the electric vehicle in town where I live and use a gas-powered car on road trips. Great content.

I think if governments want to push electric cars they need to seriously build up the charging infrastructure. Personally I don’t have anything against electric cars but I don’t care for the fact that they represent the death of ICE cars
ICE cars won't go away if people keep buying them. This video shows non Tesla EV have a ways to go.
