  • The questions to ask in a redundancy consultation meeting to challenge redundancy and save your job. If you are facing redundancy it's a tough time and if you've been invited to a formal consultation meeting you'll want to know what questions to ask. You need to challenge the business case, you need to know why your are being made redundant. Don't be afraid to ask difficult questions. The redundancy consultation process should not be a fait accompli and you should be able to have meaningful consultation with your employer.

First of all thanks for posting this, I and 6 of my close colleagues are going through this process now, the information here is incredibly helpful. The problem with redundancy is the emotional fallout that comes with losing your job and trying to be pragmatic around understanding rights and following the consultation process. This is a great help for those who feel a bit lost.

My role was redundant twice. Both times I invested my redundancy money in pension. I was devastated at the time but I have always upskilled and so found jobs quickly. Don't get upset if you are made refundant, but work smart. Look after yourself and remember nothing lasts for ever.

I would have a question regarding my redundancy due to new job created into the company.

My job is currently Support Team Officer, which my company is now "deleting" and putting us in to interview for the same role, this time, a "Support Team Co-ordinator" - same role, just a new structure in the team. We have consolations starting Thursday. I am absolutely terrified. If I don't succeed in successfully interviewing for my job, then I'll be redundant - would I be more sensible just to either accept the redundancy or hand my notice in? I'm going to lose my house :(
Please someone help me... it's all I have!
