Hi SK, I was issued the first issue (Pattern 1990) of this PLCE kit (Pattern 2011?) in 1990. For the first year or so, we had to wear it exactly as designed. A good presentation but I need to point out corrections: 2:40 The male clip at the END of the "Support Strap" fits into the female clip of the Rucksack Side Pouch. The middle male clip is there to clip into the top of the Ammunition or Utility Pouch of the webbing (US = web gear). This stabilises the daysack, bringing the base of it close to the wearer's body. Webbing is best worn TIGHT to the body with minimal bounce. The full Fastex buckle on the adjustable hanging strap doesn't connect to any part of the daysack: it's designed to be clipped around the waistbelt of the webbing. Again, to stabilise the daysack. I don't know anyone who did this after the first day we were demonstrated correct fitment. 3:14 You wouldn't unzip the pouches. They'd flop about uncomfortably. What most troops do is feed the waist strap through the bottom accessory loops at the front of each Side Pouch. A lot of troops also zigzag bungees through these loops to pull the two Side Pouches together. I removed one of the hanging belt straps and used it to keep the loops together. You have the option of fitting only ONE Side Pouch. You'd not use the male clips at the base of the Yoke when doing this. I've not tested the actual volume of these Side Pouches but they're widely reputed to be 10 litre capacity each - making a total of 20 litres.
First female buckle needs feeding under the tab strap as well, only reason I'd unzip them afterwards would be to squisg a karrimat vetween them then cinch them back up with bungee/spare strap to hold it.
Middle yoke fastex is used to connect to PLCE pouch - ammo or utility (not to fastex at the bottom of the pouch as you say on clip) to stabilize the jetpack!
You can also replace one of the pouches with the same pattern water bladder if trekking somewhere hot. the pipe feeds over a shoulder through a loop in the yoke.
Nice video, I bought a backpack with the English military plce, knew you could use the two side pockets independently, but did not know how to connect them, your video is a great guide that I solved this problem. Thanks Emanuele
Can't believe this has been posted for 5 years and nobody has pointed out you attached the straps wrong along the bottom. Firstly the waist straps pass through the outer loop only when in double and both when single. Secondly the middle buckle has nothing to do with attachment to the straps the loops/buckle are for attachment of kit to hang from under the pack(Rolled basha or pick axe handle etc). Thirdly the third male buckle on the straps is to attach to the PLCE webbing above ammo/utility pouch a bi-product copied from the old 58pattern kit and never used. Oh and separating the two packs like you demonstrated was never a done thing as they bounce around like anything...!
This is a very interesting video because I have a bag that is almost identical to your PLCE pouch, but it is black in color. I never knew what it was and didn't know what the zipper was for. Maybe I can find another one and zip them together. Thanks!
I have seven on my Bergen and two on my webbing order at the moment, up to four of the bergens rockets can be mounted to the yoke for a smaller running pack.
In civvie land not much call for full webbing, Bergen and this rocket pouch combo is my go to for outdoor trips. If it's not broken don't fix it ☘️🇨🇮☘️

I bought mine yesterday along with the Snugpak softie thermal reversible jacket and trousers and my other half is jealous. Little did he know I ordered one of each for him too!
I thought I would mention it as not many people think about adding a 3rd pouch, also these pouches can be belt mounted sideways like a butt pack on a belt (need utility straps or even pals fittings maybe?), if you can find a 3rd pouch invest in one as their so usefull I find,, good informative video all the best

I have a question: It seems, that my Yoke (DPM-pattern) even has only one male buckle on front strap's downside..is this a correctly strap or could it be, that the seller of this Yoke only put other straps (maybe from the main Yoke) on it? Most time, I only take one of the sidepouches on the Yoke and then I have to put the male buckles from the Yoke's front strap into the female buckles which are downside the Yoke's back..(hope you understand it, it's hard to tell you what I mean due to my bad english)... So the sidepouch's downside is quasi not related with the Yoke. regards Steffen
Your Support Straps are missing one male clip. Genuine ones are stamped (Pattern 1990) or have a printed label sewn onto them at the end (Patterns 1995 and 2011). Your are fitting the single Side Pouch correctly.
You should try the '58 Pack. That's what most soldiers (not my regiment) had to use before PLCE was issued. What's the Pope got to do with kit issue? Is he a CQMS in the army reserve?
The Patrol Pack doesn't fit onto the Rucksack and doesn't fold flat to next to nothing. It's an extra piece of kit to bring out - so it's a fail for bushcraft trips on foot. Each item has their niches. Like all kit, it's a case of horses for courses. Functionality and options rule, for me. Although I have and use both items, I don't care about trying to impress people by trying to pose...

First guy to realise that you can actually unzip them on a hot day, well done mate! I have a couple of these and find them very useful.
That is an awesome system! Looks like the Brits did an excellent job on thinking this stuff through. Very clever gear to go with the Bergen.

I realized you could connect a single pouch, but I did not know you could connect three! I wish I had a third to try it out!

If you get caught cutting around with these as a day sack you will be abused. Get hold of a patrol bag instead saves time and you look ally ;)
