  • If you don't have the time or money for a week long trip to a destination that is epic. You would be surprised how many place that are beautiful near your home. Maybe even epic. Like the little gem that is only 15 minutes from my house.
    Join my friend Runner and I as we hike to a spot, that overlooks the St. Croix River. As we set up camp and cook over an open fire. Wishing you were with us.

    Never really understood why most hammocks don’t come with insulation attached, either with a zip or snaps.
    I think most people who’ve used one have woken with the under quilt laying at one side in the middle of the night at one time or another. The cocoon idea seems to be the way to go. Thanks for the video.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cocoon or a pod system are super warm. But there are times when they are too warm. Like on this trip. I had to let some cold air in from time to time. To regulate the heat. Also, a hammock with a built-in-insulation. Could be counter productive in those hot summer months.

    Thanks for taking us on this adventure. Great filming. Always nice to watch your videos before bed. Calm, educational and funny. Really like the emphasize on the hammock setup in these overnighters. BTW what is the bushcraft knife you use? Looks solid. Also very interesting that the park gives you wood. In our parks you can take dead wood - no problem. Forbidden only in reserves. The real problem is that usually there is no dead wood near camping spots cuz many campers have cleaned everything that can burn in good radius around the fireplace. We also have a lot of roe deer here in Bulgaria, always barking at me when they see me.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  ปีที่แล้ว

      The knife that I am using now is custom made from Adventure Sworn. It is a great bushcraft knife. Because of Covid. It took them over a year and half to make. Well worth the wait. I don't know how I feel about getting wood from a designated place, that is in a pile. I would rather find my own. That is part of the fun for me. I have been in areas that have been pick over because of the traffic of people. We just have venture out deeper into the forest.
      I love the sounds of nature. The best music ever. To have a Roe deer bark at me would be heaven. Thank you so much for watching. I always appreciate it.

    Out of curiosity, why do you prefer a chair without a back? I've noticed you use the stool chairs a lot. My assumption is that it's warmer since you wouldn't be compressing the insulation on the back of your coat like you would with a lean-back chair. But you tell me! 😁

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chairs with the back rest are great for kicking back. But the stool that I have been using for a few years now. Sits up high and you sit strait up. Which makes makes it easer to cook and other cores. The best part is that it sits on the outside of the pack. When you come to a beautiful overlook. To take a breather or to eat lunch. It just slides off the pack ( without opening the pack ). It opens up as you are setting it on the ground. No taking it out of a bag and to assemble. I have tried so many different types of stools and ultralight camp chairs. This one seems to work the best for me. Thank you John so much for watching. I always appreciate it.

    Hey Marine! Great to see you out on a trip with Runner. Looking forward to the winter trip you guys do in the bw. I probably already said this before but for about 10 years i left the ground as well. My kit was homemade and thrifty. A single hammock from byer of maine, some 16 foot ratchet straps(metal removed and ends burned) 8x10 poly tarp and a blue ccf mat. Once I quit drinkin some time ago I just can’t stand to be in a hammock anymore. Maybe if i had a sweet setup like you guys I’d be more into it. Oh!! I was gonna ask-- does Runner use the micro torch to start his alcohol stove because it primes the cold fuel so it burns? Because that’s a dang good idea if that’s the case. Ok.. my dog is telling me to stop texting and hit the rack so have a good one. NQU

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those micro torches are the best for starting the alcohol stoves. But you have to keep them warm in a pocket next to the body, in those extreme cold temps. Otherwise, they will not light. • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use that. I have used those to drag a deer out. So I familiar with them. And they don't drag as nice as a plastic down hill sled. They will plow more than slid in deeper snow. Plus, it is easier to pack and store your gear in a sled. But the best piece of gear. Is the gear that you have.
