Two choices on the ballot paper in 2016 were Remain or Leave. There were no models offered. The vote came back with a majority to Leave. They weren’t interested in deal or no deal. The EU has enjoyed peace since its formation. The Balkans were outside of the EU, Croatia was allowed to join in 2013.

I love watching these videos in 2021 where deliveries take longer, the pound hasn't recovered. Abattoirs and picker farms are understaffed leading to wastage of food. NI has gone up thanks to expenditure for covid which the EU provided it's members support when lockdowns were imposed. Temporary visas for foreigners because loads of us English can't be bothered to work and would rather stay on benefits. The war in Bosnia had nothing to do with the EU. The main cause was ethnic tensions as a result of decades of Cold War.
Well, it had something to do with the EU in that there was actually a coordinated effort back then to take in war refugees and to calm down the situation. Which is why the Balkans don't look like the middle east today and the refugees were never forced to march around half of the globe to find something resembling safety.
But yes, it wasn't caused by the EU and is certainly not a point against 70 years of peace in middle Europe.
But to claim the EU has prevented war within Europe is hogwash. It stood on the sidelines, inactive while the flames raged for 3 years in the region.
Who in their right mind would think the UK, France, Germany etc would take up arms against each other in this day & age. If anything, the EU is fanning the flames of right wing nationalism (which is dangerous) in its attempts to constantly introduce cheap labour into the market & grind out national identity.
