Actually the term "Central Welsh Desert" refers to the number of animals per hectare that the landscape can support. You were riding the Splashes track, sometimes dangerous as the stream can rise within half an hour and make the fords uncrossable. I grew up round there. Live close by even now.

Thoroughly enjoyable tale. I really resonated with the group adventure - that shared existence the silence falling in the bothy bit for the chimney and scraping of cookware. My brother and I hiked over the mountains in 2016 and through the Abergwesyn Valley - here;s the link to Part 2 if interested th-cam.com/video/kcQK3at4pME/w-d-xo.html it sure is an epic part of the UK. Thanks for shaing. All the best. Mark

I only live about 40 mins from there by car. Any chance of the route (gpx) and where you over-nighted please?

We went to Abergwesyn but it's tough to exactly describe where the bothey is. I'm sure Stefan from Pannier.cc would be the man to answer.

Claerduu bothy just a mile north of the Teifi Pools: GR 79277 68659.

Easiest route from Elan VC. Just follow N shore of Claerwen Reservoir until you rejoin a tarmac track. After 1 mile at top of slope (by a roadside marker) turn right into a hillside gully (500yds) and you will see the bothy. Great ride great stop off spot!

Never heard ‘bothy’ pronounces that way before
