One of James most personal songs. They've only played this song a handful of times live. A combination of it being personal and almost too fast. Lars struggles with the double bass as he gets older. All of the instruments simply don't stop once they start. It's also one of their fastest songs.
@@patrickmelhorn793 The double bass on the album version of this song isn’t one take, it’s edited together because Lars couldn’t get through it. I’ve been a massive fan of Metallica since 1985 and stuck with them through the Load era. Lars is the business genius behind Metallica and part of the writing genius. As a drummer though,, he’s just decent, not phenomenal. He’s degraded over the years due to complacency for one and due to age. If you listen to his double bass for One starting in 1989 up until today, it gets progressively worse except for one year where he must have been practicing more. So yes, Lars does struggle with this live. It’s not an insult, it’s a friggin hard song on drums, more so than it is on guitar (I used to be able to play this on guitar before I stopped playing for 15 years after having a child). This isn’t an insult to Lars, without him there is no Metallica, they likely never make it without his business sense and drive. However, when it comes to the realm of professional drummers, he’s only middle of the road. I met the guy, he was incredibly nice and made you feel like he was interested in what you were saying, despite I’m sure hearing the same things over and over again. They all were really nice. Kirk was shy as hell, James made fun of me (which is on video...ugh) and Rob was incredibly gracious. I wish I had met them when Jason was with them and especially Cliff, but I didn’t get lucky until 2009.
My first two metal albums my new metal friends introduced me to was GnR appetite for destruction and then justice for all, and that was me hooked, this album blew my mind! That lead break!!
Hetfields parents, from what I’ve read and heard in interviews of JH, were into “god will heal you”. A lot of his lyrics deal with how he felt toward his parents. Look it up if you feel like to, it will help explain a lot of the songs he writes.
I don't get how they went from this directly to _enter sandman_ This is definitely the thrashiest song on justice, it's up there with fight fire with fire in terms of speed, I love it!
My pick for your next album will always be Load, but whenever you decide to do it, I hope you do both Load and Reload back to back. Anyway loved the reaction and looking forward to your album ranking for Justice :)
They finish almost every album with a thrashy banger 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥 DOUG @!!! I've been waiting for the finale lol great way to close a long weekend for me. Thx DOUG 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
James on the edge of emotional, internal death (your inner self to die, intruding). But I rather like how I misheard those lyrics originally as: "your inner self to die, yours truly"
The word you were looking for was "intensity". This song has a crazy momentum to it. The lyrics are based on child neglect and the harshness of being neglected or discouraged. When all a person wants is to be loved and supported for who they are..
Do Load or Reload from Metallica. Justice was Metallica at their most extreme...what happens with the loads are so different they sound like a completely different band. Its amazing.
Don’t want to start a debate about which band is better but now you have done Metallica it’s only fitting you do some Megadeth as well. Holy Wars or Hangar 18 would be a good place to start
James lost his mother to cancer when he was a teenager and the family did not believe in medical treatment. His anger regarding the family's religion is reflected so heavily in Dyers Eve...
Brah, as an old metalhead it makes happy that dudes like you exist.
I think Dyers Eve is an under appreciated gem.
6:47 - Where was the end bit of *"duh duh duuuuuh NO!"*

I was fortunate to see this played live in Philly 2004. Great show, was pleasantly surprised to hear this played.
Lars doesn't struggle at all live. That part is false

I love this reaction I hope you do Ride the lightning next and then Kill em all
Dope

The same way they went from Reload to St.Anger....Sometimes its hard to figure the fuck is going on in Hetfield's head
Great reactions man. Yeah, you should react to Metallica’s Ride the Lighting album in the future. 🤙🏼🤘🏼🔥
Ride the Lightning has to be next; it's the only coherent next pursuit.
🍻
My pick for your next album will always be Load, but whenever you decide to do it, I hope you do both Load and Reload back to back.

yes, Load and Reload maybe different from previous Metallica's albums. But they still kick ass

AJ4A was my first Metallica Album back in ‘88. Dyers Eve is just that, a person on the eve of his death expressing his feelings.

Next should be Load trust me and that's because it's a total contrast and I think that you will really be pleasantly surprised
I still consider 2x4 a guilty pleasure, even though there's no guilt.

Ride the lightning next!
Best band of all time by a mile for me bud
React to the Ride the Lightning album!
Hope you do load next, followed by reload
Dosent get much more aggressive than Dyer's eve!
That is the DEEP END song for sure!
James lost his mother to cancer when he was a teenager and the family did not believe in medical treatment. His anger regarding the family's religion is reflected so heavily in Dyers Eve...
One of Kirk's best guitar solos, along with all nightmare long.
Understandable,no other Metallica song has this kind of tempo and time changes at the same time
Millenials discover real music.
Tool plz
Bought the cassette twice because somebody at school stole the first one.
Not finished ,rest "Shortest Straw" no?
Oh yes done,i see sorry
James' parents were Christian Scientists. No clue what Dyers Eve means...been wondering that for 32 years!
Really? The lyrics say it all! Read them, listen to them, FEEL them...
A dyer is a slang (check the urban dictionary), that means something like a dealer … then means: Dealer eve … makes sense now, right ?
I was all with you till you cut off the end of the song. That's nails on a chalkboard man, please never do that.
A cardinal sin
