    I grew up a fan of Dr. J, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan, but the player who could beat you the most ways with the most skills was Larry Bird. Bird had the best combination of inside scoring, mid-range scoring, 3-point scoring, passing, rebounding, defense, basketball IQ, trash talking, work ethic, clutch performance, and leadership. Bird had it all from day 1 in the NBA. The others gained some of these things after several years. Bird was the Batman of the NBA. He was always several moves ahead of the competition, best clutch shooter of all-time, #2 all-time with winning percentage (Jordan is #40), he had the passing gift, and he could beat you more ways than just shooting. Jordan was dangerous when he had the ball. Bird was always dangerous - with or without the ball.
    "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I’d choose Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I’d take Larry Bird." - Legendary Lakers Coach Pat Riley
    “I would much rather guard Michael Jordan than Larry Bird, because you have to play the game as a thinker when you’re playing [Bird]. You have to get inside his mind. Larry wasn’t quick, he couldn’t jump really high, but there were just some sleepless nights.”
    -James Worthy on Larry Bird, via ESPN SportsCentury
    " The difference between Jordan and Bird was that Jordan made you look slow, Bird made you look stupid. " - James Worthy
    “Larry Bird can’t jump, and he’s not that quick… But he makes up for it by using his head, analyzing the opponent. It makes him better than the competition… Consequently, he doesn’t have a weakness.” - Michael Jordan

      @V12BenzAMG ปีที่แล้ว +5

      definitely... MJ even said it himself "I don't think one man can beat the Boston Celtics"...because Bird made the entire TEAM dangerous with or without the ball...and as brilliant as MJ was at scoring (even 60+pts), he couldn't beat the all around game of Bird and the affect he had on the rest of his team...MJ dominated scoring (even Bird said he was unbelievable) but couldn't win without adding a more all around game to his toolbag and helping his team be better overall...then came the dual 3-peats

      Hey man I get it you watching a Bird highlight reel and you do the typical thing by thinking I'll pull Jordan down and try to pull Bird up and that NEVER works in Bird's favor due to what Jordan did in his career.
      You like quotes huh?....Bird after Jordan scored 63 in Boston - that wasn't Jordan, that was God disguised as Jordan "
      There is a COMPLIMENT IN HISTORY that goes higher than that ☝️ he compared a human being to God.

    • @nettlarry
      @nettlarry ปีที่แล้ว +5

      63 wasn't enough though. Bird was about winning and that's what he got. Easier to compliment the loser. I remember Scottie and MJ double teaming Bird on the last shot. And failing. He hit it anyway. 6'9'' and the high release means you almost have to foul him to reach. Or jump early. Then he just passes it. Bird was unstoppable because he was so good. Who else got away with trash talking MJ? Twice.
      I wasn't watching a highlight reel - I saw it live. But you should watch a couple and the devastated faces he left everybody with. Mark Aguirre and Moses looked like they were gonna start crying in disbelief. You seem to be salty about MJ not getting past Bird ever. Not once. He didn't even get one. Not one!

    • @traslenpatterson3478
      @traslenpatterson3478 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nettlarry oh i never said 63 was enough, it's a team game and I am ABSOLUTELY not salty about Jordan never beating Bird in the playoffs...why?? Understanding, proper perspective, and context is always needed. You " trying " to brag about Bird beating Jordan in his 2nd & 3rd season with awful teammates is like me bragging about how Jordan started beating Bird a whole lot in the late 80's and early 90's when Bird was riddled with injuries and the Celtics had aged out, it doesn't make any sense.
      I think you got it twisted thinking I'm a Jordan fanboy, no I'm a fan of the game before anything that's why I'm a proud owner of Magic books, Jordan books, Bill Russell books, Kareem Books, Wilt Chamberlain books and I be damn.... I'M ALSO A OWNER OF LARRY BIRD BOOKS AS WELL. ( DRIVE....LARRY LEGEND, I WISH IT COULD LAST FOREVER ) and in Bird Drive, Bird says this about Jordan in the 80's 👇
      " It's not that Jordan couldn't win in the 80's, he just didn't have the proper coaching, system or ROSTER TALENT that all the other teams had who were winning during that time and thank God he didn't "
      That there ☝️ is called PERSPECTIVE AND UNDERSTANDING.
      Magic Johnson said this in 87' " Jordan is the best player in the world, he doesn't have the CHAMPIONSHIP ROSTERS that Larry and I myself have "
      PERSPECTIVE AND UNDERSTANDING!!
      that's all I'm saying.

    Magic & Larry, resurrected the game of basketball......My dad loved basketball, but stopped watching, until the competition between Johnson & Bird was highlighted......What my Dad used to say, about Larry's game, is that it reminded him of someone, who was not only playing basketball, but also, volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, baseball, football, soccer, & strategic chess, all at the same time, and was what made him so great 😊He certainly was one of the most unique and gifted players, I have ever watched!

      Yep. Just like the WNBA, the NBA used to suck. Ppl hate the WNBA, but they don’t know how boring the NBA used to be. Especially before televised every single game. And this was in the JORDAN ERA. Those lazy bastards would walk the ball down the court EVERY play. There was no full court ball. Unless it was a rare televised game. That’s what Jordan was talking about when he said he joined the Bulls in ‘84. They didn’t give a F***! They were worried about getting drunk and f’ed up. There was hardly any talent in the league. Women’s college basketball doesn’t have the athleticism that guy’s ball does. But it’s definitely more fun to watch than ANY Lebron [‘Ima victim] game does. Fu€k that bit€h!!

      Especially for college basketball. So many great players stayed in school to graduation, or at least 3 years.
      In the NBA, the rules changes to hand-checking, lax refereeing on things like sticking out a leg to try and draw fouls, travelling and carrying the ball, and the focus on the 3pt shot have had a negative impact on defensive play.

It was truly a magical time for a basketball fan. You should definitely watch his 50 greatest moments, his long pass was deadly accurate. He was so clutch, that Pat Riley once said "If I had to pick a player to take shot to win a game, I would choose Jordan. If I had to pick a player to take a shot to save my life, I would choose Larry Bird." I have always maintained that Larry Bird was the greatest all around player to ever play the game. The saddest day in Boston, was the day he retired.

    * Called their shots.
    * Called their shots in the FINALS.
    * Pronounced themselves the winner of the 3 point shoot out before it starts.
    * Beat a Finals team like the Showtime Lakers
    * Been a 50/40/90 player
    * Called their buzzer beater game winning shots
    * Talked trash to opposing coaches telling them no one on their squad can guard them
    * Completed 3 years of sweeping MJ and the Bulls out of the playoffs
    * Played a whole game left handed (after announcing it to the media before hand) and finishing with a 47 point triple-double

After his 3rd quarter return, he was hit on the right side of his face by a Pacer & knocked to the floor. It took him a minute but he got up & continued playing. In the 4th quarter Chuck Person shoved him from behind sending him sprawling on the floor on his stomach. Again Bird got up & continued to play. If you want to really understand their rivalry you should watch
    A courtship of rivals bird and magic
    It is absolutely the best sports documentary I've ever seen
    You can break it up into 4 parts
    Well worth it

    Every great player today from Jordan to LeBron should bow to those two in Bird and Johnson. The NBA was on life support and practically dead. The Finals were shown on tape delay in favor of TV shows like 77 Sunset Strip and Gunsmoke. We wouldn't even know their names after college. They truly saved the entire league. Bird was a 3 time Champ, 3 time MVP, 3 time 3-point winner but also NBA Coach of the year and NBA executive of the year. Nobody else has done that. Nobody. He also stands up for the greatness of today's players. He is truly special.

    It's great to see another person around my age actually watch these guys. (I was born in September of 93.)
    So many people write these guys off without having seen them play.
    As you mentioned Larry was a progenitor.
    His game shows up in so many different greats.
    As you mentioned Steve Nash and Stephen Curry.
    Think of John Stockton and Jordan.
    A great underrated player I highly recommend watching is Mark Price.
    He played in the 90's and the closest thing I can think of to Bird at the PG position.
    This Intense white dude BALLER.
    I'm white dude too, so I'm a bit biased.
    The reason Price isn't mentioned in the same breath as Stockton is mainly longevity (Stockton played well over 700 more games than Price.) and Jordan was incapable of playing the Cavs before the Finals.

    I’m older and when I grew up I as a girl of many boys had to learn how to play ball 🏀🏈⚾️. My boy cousins all wanted to be called LARRY. I couldn’t play with them if I acted like a “Sissy Girl” 🤨🤪. Later when my girls played basketball… I kept calling out plays naturally a habit and the mom’s were like you should assist the Coach and I was like i can’t do that my daughter would not like that at all. 🙆🏻‍♀️😝 Oh the nostalgia and great memories of hearing my family talk about LARRY BIRD. Thank you for sharing this Reaction.

    My favorite Larry Bird story was, magic and Bird were at Bird's mom place to shoot a commercial and the took a break for lunch and larry invited magic to have lunch with him and Larry's mom. Larry's mom comes out and ask Larry, "did you tell him?" Larry goes, "No mom I'm not going to tell him. If you want you tell him." Mrs. Bird proceeds to to tell magic that he is her favourite player.

    Bird used to practice three pointers with his eyes closed. I’ve never seen someone pass like he did. Watching Larry and Magic was a special treat. There was respect and friendship between them.

    I was never a HUGE basket ball fan but it was still a big part of my childhood, living in Compton I remember my dad leaving for weeks at a time for work as a truck driver (before the parent divorced) and it being late at night (for a kid) watching the Bulls and Lakers play in 1988 (i was 9) in my moms room because i couldnt sleep lol, I knew Larry was a beast but wish i would have payed a little more attention before so many of the greats retired ❤

    I grew up watching Larry Bird, Spud Webb, Domique Wilkins, Kareem, etc. Bird's passing game was as ridiculous as his shooting game. Dude even got his own rebounds. On the ar radio, you heard, "Larry Bird for 3!", "Larry Bird from the corner.", "Bird", "Larry Bird", etc.

    The shot over the backboard didnt count because of the Wilt Chamberlain rule. Wilt would position himself on the side and just behind the board, then reach those arms out. They would get him the ball and he would just flick it into the bucket. Youre right. It was impossible to guard it. Thus, the Wilt rule. Enjoyed your reaction

    Please watch "greatest passer ever with re-edit" to see what an amazing passer Bird was when he played. Many think of Bird as a shooter only but Bird was the best all around player I have ever seen. Bird as a rookie went to a 29 win team and with a new coach and 1 player change to the team (ML Carr) was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game improvement. Bird won ROY and was 4th in MVP voting. For the next 8 seasons in the MVP Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3 and 2nd again. Bird created the 50-40-90 club and did it 2 seasons in a row. Bird entered three of the 3 point shooting contests and won all three!!

    That Pacers game when Larry went off, he'd broken the orbital bone of his eye socket and NO reaction video I've seen yet has noticed this: @ 8:30 when he comes back out on the floor and kneels down, look at his eyes! Pure unmitigated determination and MURDER! He destroyed the Pacers after coming back. I watched that game as it played out!

    Man, I loved this vid! Great reaction! Please, take a look on these one, about the game against Indiana Pacers, when larry felt down snd hit his head on the floor... Fractured cheeckbone, double vission, concussion... But the Pacers was giving the sh*t to Celtics without Larry, The legend returns to game without medical permission... Pacers try to make it do hard to Larry as possible... He was hit on his fractured cheeckbone, had a hit on his lower back (remember that Bird had severe damaged his back almost the half of hus career... Watch this vid, man... Larry Legend is a freakin' gladiator!

    I grew up watching Bird play. It blew my mind watching him. I'm glad a new generation is seeing how great the NBA and the stars were back then compared to now. It was a rough game back then. Fighting and punching were normal. Now if you sneeze near someone it's a foul.
