It must feel like Groundhog Day. Wake up, shovel snow, run errands if you can or do projects to keep your house standing, shovel more snow, eat, sleep, repeat. Respect to all the people up there dealing with this. My family spent a month or two up there sometime in 83/84 while my dad and uncles did construction on some condos, but I was too young to remember much. I've always wanted to see Mammoth as an adult, so thanks for giving me the chance without having to travel! It would be hard to comprehend what it's like to live in this much snow without videos showing it. I hope you and your family have been able to take some time to enjoy some skiing or sledding. One question, with snow drifts this high do A-frame houses have any trouble from the weight of the snow built up on their sides? I'm sure they're pretty sturdy, but when the snow is more than one story high I imagine that weight has to start putting pressure on the sides of the structure.
Great job with the garage! So sorry you ended up with issues. You have done a great job moving ALL that snow on your property. I saw a little bit from another channel about the explosion and collapse. I pray for Everyone up there daily. You are so right that They need to Shutdown and let Everyone concentrate on digging out and securing their homes and business!!! The snow will be there until July or even August, so Everyone will still make money and stay in business. No need to take anymore risks! Your street is so narrow its crazy! Best wishes and lots of prayers for you and your family and everyone else in Mammoth. Stay Safe and keep up your great strength in your body and your mind during this difficult time. 🙏💯🫶👍🌞🌞
Love seeing your videos, can't wait to see what the place looks like when all that snow has gone, when you look back you won't believe how much you had
Thank you for sharing your daily snow work and how one lives with snow. Know we all give you prayerful support for each snowy day. God bless you and your family. 🙏
Thanks for the update . The drone images really show the damage. They didn't have that on the other channel. Hopefully everyone will make a Full recover from there injuries . Great job on the garage.
So sorry the garage is not doing so well. All the work to remove snow and then leaks freeze and wreck the beams anyway. 😢. You have your hands full. Pray for spring. Stay safe.
After watching your videos the last few weeks, Mammoth Lakes has been added to my list of places to visit after I retire next year. I definitely want to stop by the Liberty Bar for a cold one while I'm in town Wishing some of the snow you've been getting would make its way to Pennsylvania. Stay safe and keep up the great work.
Thanks for the latest update, glad there were no fatalities in that roof collapse & propane explosion! That could have been much uglier than it already was. Stay safe & keep warm!
Snow areas keep schools going unless glaciers are moving through. I went to Syracuse University where we would get 200” per winter. I don’t recall one class ever being cancelled. We would walk through canyons of snow to class, then peel off layers to sit in class.
NOT to trivialize any serious accident but, collapse is like a bad two car crash or avalanche, lessons to be learned but not the end of a community. Wishes for full recoveries to all involved. 😕 Lost family friend to avalanche on Mt. Tom, aircraft and ground vehicle crashes, etc., over the yrs in greater Owens Valley area.
Freezing water on/in wood dosnt make it crack. Those beams look overloaded the way they cracked and are bowed down. That garage roof needs a total redesign.
Your little framing job in garage might work for now but you did not install bracing between the studs. Cut 2x6 pieces between the studs and nail them in horizontally about waist high. You have no lateral support the vertical 2x6 will bow under a load.
0:33 I love the sounds of a Cummins or Duramax in the morning! Unless ots at 5am in a campground when everyone is still asleep except the guy wanting to depart before “Oh-dark-thirty”
Make a carrier beam out of some 2x6 or even 2x8 and a few jack posts, least then you would be able to push it up and take pressure off, and I would suggest when everything cleans cleans up strip roof and sister on some 2x10 or even 2x12
I am sorry to hear about the Propane explosion. Praying 🙏 for the victims to have a speedy recovery. You sure have patience with living in Mammoth thus winter. I would have been calling it quits by now. Am wondering where all that water will go on your street when it melts. Fingers crossed 🤞. Be careful. Hopefully the snow will stop soon. It needs to. 😅
All the water in mammoth creek , goes to the Owens river and directly to LA. So yes the snow seen here will water a Hollywood celebs lawn who's crying about climate change. This snow even though fantastic and seemingly impossible hasn't set new records yet! It's all cycles. The drought California had in late 60's though early 70's was even worse than the last one.
we were headed home to california from AZ when all of this started, we almost got stranded with our 28 Ft, travel trailer. We were able to make it down to Bishop where we stayed the night before. We had called ahead to Mammoth lake to see if it was safe, but when they finally called to warn us not to attempt it , it was too late we were already there. When we finally made it back down to Bishop, the owners of the RV park where we stayed the previous night told us that HWY 6 to Reno was completely open. Thanks to the RV owners, we dodged a gigantic bullet
Propane or natural gas explosions are fairly rare. The natural gas tanks just don't explode. It has to be a room or space filled with the natural gas igniting causing the explosion. We have a trailer using natural gas and we can smell any leaks of gas in the air. We can take appropriate action to stop any leaks very fast. Thankfully no one was killed even though people were hurt. However, the fire and police officials have to get to the the cause of this. There are other units in this complex where others could have hurt or killed in this event.
Gotta feeling Spring is going to be *sprung* on us this yr. (feelings are worth nothing) but it's been extra cool recent wks, will tend to normalize at some pt. Cutting beam span in half as u did makes roof 4X stronger.
So sorry to hear what happened at the condo building. I agree, people should stay away from Mammoth and let your town have time to get past this snow. We live in the AV and have purposely stayed away from Arrowhead and Big Bear to not bother them. Normally we go up after it has snowed. You are starting to sound deflated and tired. Praying for all.
Unbelievable, your sister channel, was saying a propane tank exploded and caused a building to collapse. The 'Plow Brothers' channel was saying 3 ambulances took people to the hospital. Will definitely keep everyone that was involved in my thoughts and prayers!! Truly sad!!! If you hear how the tank exploded, definitely want to know, propane tanks just don't explode on their own.. 😳As far as your place goes, I'd see if you could get a building engineer to take a look for any more damage or potential damage on the rest of your place, also maybe you should look into building a pole structure during when there is no snow over garage with a angled metal roof. Great job on the framing your garage...
Propane is a very dirty and volatile gas. Temperature changes it a lot more then natural gas. It expands and contracts a lot and the psi changes a lot with temperature. Also it’s very heavy so if there is a leak it doesn’t go away it sinks and sits so you might not realize it’s there and boom . If regulator broke or snow shoveling or ice chipping broke a line the gas will just sit down low and gather until something ignites it .
Declaring an emergency and closing Mammoth down will negatively effect everybody in town. You think covid was bad, just wait until you close down all the businesses. Instead, deal with what you have and learn from the experience. Hopefully Mammoth's building department will tighten up building rules so that you won't suffer through this again. But you know what's going to happen? People have short term memories. Mammoth will be back to doing things the same old way quite soon. Only those who prepare in advance will be ready for the next big winter.
Mammoth Mountain I think plows in your area. They have a video that shows the plowing they do in your area. Maybe give them a peek. Thank you for the update on the propane explosion.
We don’t have (obviously) the same amount of snow, but living in a tourist destination and May I add we do not have the infrastructure like you do! We are dealing with the same exact problems. We are not incorporated, so we don’t even have a police force here! Being on a mountain it takes Sheriff’s 45 minutes to get here, if and that’s a BIG IF…they decide it warrants their time and energy. So ya know it could be worse. JS 🙁 I will say one more blessing that we have that you don’t….we have no ski resort…Thank Heavens
At the beginning of this video - I had my fingers crossed that there was no on coming traffic on the road you were driving. Thank you for taking your time, effort, & equipment to document what's going on. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada..
Was good to hear from you. Looks like you have a sturdy brace up in the garage. I wandered how your basement is? You & your family, always in thought & prayer.
When you have 7' of snow on your roof it might be a wise idea to get it off, HELLO! One can hope now that you have a slow thaw. Looks like your garage roof is ready to blow it guts out, good job.
Thinking of adding a second floor to my house.probably going to push for thicker beams on the roof regardless of where he lives. Colder weather is coming.
I've watched the "Mammoth" snow plow guys channel here on TH-cam too. Are they your plowing company contracted to do your community? Just wondering? Thk you for your channel and your content. Southeast PA hasn't gotten any snow AT ALL during the winter, so you're my snow fix this season.
Are the houses that are tagged unlivable? Are there people living in them or are there places there that people rent out and don't live in year round? Thanks for the video.
I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Its a great place but winters like this seem to go on forever, and dealing with the huge quantities of snow is tiresome.
question: Do you feel placing sand bags in the back of the truck's bed to weigh down the truck help with traction control in snow ? I have a F150 2wd and im heading up this Saturday march 25. Thank you
I had trouble with a nabor years ago who would let their pitbull run around the front of my house so I told them that if that dog ever came near me or my kids I would shoot that dog dead. From that day forward he was kept on a leash. Problem solved. Good luck up there 👍
Cant believe kids had school😳 When you say house is tagged does that mean folks had to leave cause its unsafe structurally? Its good you dug out your propane tanks hopefully they will be safe from exploding! The streets there look treachorous they should def shut down til weather allows for digging out more! Still praying for all you folks in CA dealing with snow and floods the videos are surreal🥺
Question? I saw a video of a man cutting the snow on the roof with a saw and it slid right off. I have no doubt that you know how to deal with this much snow. Just curious about your thoughts on this 🤔 was it BS??? Cause you work hard to keep the snow off your roof..... maybe a stupid question, and I apologize if it is 🤷♀️ Keep Up the great work!!! 👍 😊
At this point you'd want to shore things up.....and leave until July. Have been there when it was bad, but this is well beyond a 5-6 foot dump of snow.
There is nothing wrong with letting your dog run free. You have to make sure that he/she listens to you. Keep an eye on where they walk and clean up their poop. I had 3 dogs for a total of 35 years, a Belgian Shepherd, a Wolfhound and lastly a Jack Russell for 17.5 years. None of these dogs quarreled with other dogs. It's just what kind of person you are and how you raise them. When you are aggressive, your dogs will be too. One whistle from me and they came right back. Dogs on leash get too fat. They can't lose their energy. My dogs walked 2 to 3 times the distance I walked. That's why my shepherd turned 16 and my wolfhound 17 and my Jack 17.5. So. Educate your dog. Let him run and loose when possible. And clean up his poop. Everyone happy.
I honestly can't believe they haven't declared a state of emergency at this point... Hoping your house continues to hold, and keeping those who were effected by the explosion in my thoughts.
It's inconceivable to me that roofs are still collapsing? That should be the main priority over driveways. You drove by a house that looked like it had 10 ft of snow on it I just don't understand?
this is not normal to have this much snow, its great that the people are holding up but this is not normal and the way weather is anymore but stuff is going to continue
Snow lovers, skiers - will be doing their thing ALL year round up there: there will be snow on the slopes for the entire summer. Great for some, not so great for others: oh well.

Be prepared. Calling people idiots because they built something essentially wrong for the environment it has been built in, remember: you bought it, you decided to live and do business there so stop crying about it. Otherwise, relatively good videos.

Are the yellow tag houses vacation homes where no one is there to keep up with snow removal, so the house ends up damaged?
Surprised steeper roof pitch 10/12 or greater isn't required by code in these mountain areas

Battery powered Chisel hammer is starting to look like a great tool to have in the Sierra. Would probably make the ice removal far easier
Battery power does not work well in the cold. Battery drains very fast in cold or doesnt charge in cold.
