    I drive a 30 ft long Chrysler 300. even though the car has steel reinforcement everywhere, it's a bit disconcerting to see that the only part crumpled like a ball of paper is where the driver is.

    I actually was a Limo driver in LA, you wouldn't believe how people act while in one of these cars. If ask them to use the seat belt they get pissed and look at you like your nuts. I drove. 9 passenger stretched Lincoln newer than the one in this video. Dealing with 9 drunk passengers is a nightmare. The other thing is that because they are paying you they think they can treat you like dirt.
    So if you are in a limo. Please use the seat belt. Don't look at the driver like he's nuts if he asks you to do so. And please try to treat the driver with some respect. We're just trying to make a living doing our job. Also if you are kind to us driver's you'll be surprised at what we will go out of our way to do for you. And $2.00 isn't a tip. In that case keep it, you need it more than I do.

    A person is tempted to wonder how well the seats are attached to the frame of the vehicle so that the use of the seatbelts is actually..."useful". Do these custom car companies building these things actually pay attention to proper engineering at least equivalent to the original manufacturers?

  • @johneastmond9092

    That was great! I've never seen a crash test of a stretch limo.. I don't know if seat belts would help as much as some might think. Don't get me wrong, they'd help, but how much? When the thing is so rigid all that energy is transferred to the passengers. The front section might absorb enough of the energy to make it work. The driver is in a hopeless position.

    Being your chances of surviving a 60mph impact into a wall are slim to none no matter what you are driving, belted in or not, I would say that the limo is pretty damn safe for the passengers.
    Keep in mind that that is a "worst case scenario"...
    The extreme mass of that limo pretty much guarantees that any other car hitting this thing will lose horribly.

    • @MrSupercar55
      @MrSupercar55 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah. He should have fastened the seat belt on one of the dummies in the rear seat to illustrate how a restrained passenger would survive an accident that an unrestrained passenger would not.

      AgentAndroid the seat belts aren't anchored to the seats, and with your ass strapped down in them, they would barely move any way. It doesn't make any difference. On top of that, very few cars actually have the rear seat bottoms BOLTED into the floor, they just clip into place.

      Yeah. Based on the video, such a tragic aftermath most likely could have been traced back to passengers not wearing seatbelts. Although it's a legal requirement, the fact that limos have tinted windows makes it very difficult to enforce.

    Tests like this are more cautionary than truly enlightening. Because the outcome is just pure physics at play, and would be the same no matter what the vehicle is. If you run anything into a concrete wall, loose contents inside will continue forward motion into the nearest hard surface until energy is dissipated. Be it unbelted occupants, or a belted occupants internal organs. Impact equals splat, so it's best to avoid high speed wrecks all together. On a side note, the limo's mid-section held together very well. Downright tank-like,

  • @thomasaquinas2600
    @thomasaquinas2600 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most people envision crash protection as the resistance to protrusion, i.e. keeping the other vehicle outside your car. That's important to be sure, witness tiny Honda 500 or Smart cars vs. trucks and SUV's. Equally menacing is the sheer 'G' forces. We are reminded of the Lady Di accident, where incredible forces were at play with a large vehicle hitting a concrete pillar. So, at a certain severity of crash, it doesn't matter about the deformation of your car; the forces alone are beyond our survivability. That's why they developed 'crash zones', where the body can fold and dissipate some of the impact. Again, small vehicles have no such area to fold.

    Like to have seen a dummy-chauffeur to see how mutilated he would've been!?!
    Fifth gear should also use those G-force indicators like Mythbusters use to tell how bad their internal injuries would be (even with seat-belts the deceleration would probably kill you)!
    &B^{O?

    I wish EURONCAP and IIHS would have crash tests of exotic cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Maclaren ,Rolls Royce etc

    Heaps of limos are MANUFACTURED as such. All the US major manufacturers, Mercedes, and several others do
    Yes many too are just cut and shut standard cars and will never be as strong as the proper limos. Though generally suffice as to what their intended use is.

      1992. It's K reg. Couldn't have been owned by Elvis because he died in 1977.

      Elvis died on the 70s, thats a Lincoln Town Car of the nineties. Also, the Town Car was released on 1981, so it couldn't be from Elvis.

    the problem is most of crash are., vehicle vs vehicle, not with heavy wall, so this is test is useless. only if you going to hit a wall, but I drought it, it would make sense if another car crash with the limon

    And, we are sorry to bring to your attention that the tv show formerly know as 5th Gear will no longer be aired, due the lack of existence of the upper torso of the host and his, uh, ladies.

    A video every chauffeur must watch!!

      Limos are highly overrated. They have a ride like sitting on a big bag of rocks. Way to ruin a perfectly comfortable and competency car.
      Wonder why the seat came out?

    Dont u think they should hit limo or any cars into a vehicle to know the level of destruction coz as driver people face traffic not a concrete wall.

    any show like this they gotta ramp up the drama and overreact when the car goes boom...like dubbed in tire screechs in movies
