      @geordiejaygaming2878 I dislike Ashley as much as the next Newcastle fan, but for what it's worth, he actually kept his word. He'd sell us on to a party that can take us to the next level. And every time we were relegated, he dug deep, kept as many of our assets as he could, took the hit and got promoted straight back. But it was a horrendous time to be a Newcastle fan, I remember a victory over wigan or reading would be celebrated like a win over a big 6 side today. 🤣
      To be fair, the big 6 in England don't allow their status to be challenged, the league itself upholds anti competition laws. So besides a state challenging them, I don't think any other private individual would've fared much better.

    It's all well and good saying Ashley didn't leave us with loads of debt, but the squad was so under-invested in for years. PSR means you need to sell players but outside of 8 or 9 of the first 11 we had no-one worth more than a fiver.

    • @ricozkirihara2798
      @ricozkirihara2798 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Its not just the squad. Our commercial income have stagnated under Ashley and even regressed if you consider inflation. its like Newcastle still stuck in the early 2000s in a time capsule. All theses big money coming into the league in recent years and we never got a whiff of it except tv money because Ashley didnt even bother to grow the commercial side of the club and is more concerned about using Newcastle to advertise his own business for free.

    • @donmongoose
      @donmongoose 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ricozkirihara2798 Very true, but on the plus side, that aspect of the club is easier to fix and is something the owners can throw money at.

    Ashley didn't saddle Newcastle with debt but he also didn't buy them any assets either. They still have Championship calibre players n the squad. idk why the FA won't let Newcastle pillage other league's talent to make the Prem better. Ridiculous policy. They're making the league worse.

    Ashley left us in a right mess. We had no money coming into the club because he wanted his businesses plastered all over the stadium instead of getting sponsors in to build up the clubs finances. When Ashley took over the club we used to be the 9th richest club in the world and had the second or third best stadium in the league, while he was there we dropped right down to 24th or something, he left the stadium in a right state. Thats what he done to this club, not leave it in a financially sound position like Simon Jordan claims.

    Simon is utterly wrong in this point - Mike Ashley did not leave Newcastle in a good position as you have to consider before him we were Champions league under Keegan & Robson & miles ahead of Spurs - Under Ashley we were relegated twice & £100s of millions behind Spurs in squad value & revenue. What turnover would Mr Jordan have left the business with after 15 years from that starting position? I'm sure he would not have done such a pathetic job thinking small.

    • @dacrawfy
      @dacrawfy 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So up until the point of Mike Ashley leaving, we were one of the few premier league clubs not in any debt. Yea to do that he bought players cheap and sold them when they got more value so we could never develop our squad, but the point Simon is making is from a more financial view rather than a strength of squad view. If we were in debt, we would of had even less money to spend that what we have been able to which is not much but still something

      Winning the League Cup guarantees at least Europa League football by 16th March…so I’d definitely have taken that and an 8th place finish at the start of the season…Newcastle only missed out on Europa Conference League last season due to Manure winning the FA Cup…which took the 7th place finish out of that competition. Finishing 8th (especially on a reasonable points tally) AND getting Europa League after such a narrow miss on the lesser Europa Conf League spot last season after finishing 7th would be an improvement…and first major domestic silverware since 54-55!!

    Eddie and the ownership has taken us from relegation battles to being a top 7 club in 3 years. That's a massive achievement in itself. Simon is right, to bridge the next gap which would be a regular top 4 club it's going to take even more money. The club hasn't been able to do it but I do believe over the next 12 months big money will be spend, no real money spend in two years, new sponsorship rules will come in which will benefit them.

      I wouldn't say we are favoured. In the sense that most of the press coverage is negative..

    How many times have I heard on this channel today that Saudi FC beat Chelsea in the week and then Arsenal this weekend.
    Have you all forgotten they LOST to Chelsea only last weekend - yes, just 7 or 8 days ago - get a life you guys!

    December is a long old month were many players pick up injuries, 30/11/2024 til 30/12/2024
    I see many games during that period where Newcastle will struggle. Brentford in that Semi has to be priority lose that game and the Saudi's will be looking for another manager 100%

      Surprised? Newcastle have been doing that since Howe took over. City, Manure, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Villa all beaten under Howe, some of them more than once. Only Liverpool to go to complete the set.
