Hi So Cal Trout Cartel. Great Video. I am heading out to Mammoth Lakes this weekend with the family, and my daughters and I are dreaming of catching fish. I am a novice myself, and was hoping to get some advice. How do you connect your 5 pound braid to the 2 pound leader when fishing the minnow? Do you use a Uni Knot? Swivel? Thank you in advance.
The San Joaquin by the post pile has Rainbow, Golden, Brook and Brown. I've caught all four in one day twice. It's really interesting because you fish to stream habitat and time of day per species. Really fun! Lots of pesky bears though!
I gotta go fish that area some time, I went and hiked that area to rainbow falls last year and had seen people fishing. I definitely gotta do that some time
@@socaltroutcartel574 just a wonderful day's fish. Start at the falls and fish upstream to past the Postpile. So the stream is inaccessible most of the way so you won't see anyone. I've fished all over the country and because it has 4 trout species it ranks very high. You'll be surprised how big some of the Browns are! The bears are ridiculous though there. Camp bears. Lots of them. So be prepared. Hope you make it.
@@socaltroutcartel574 so one time I started a 2 wk backpack trip at the falls there. Came out 20 miles south. But anyway, I got down in that Canyon below the falls. Which is not easy! Boulder hopping fishing. It was packed with aggressive brownies. Big for stream size but stunted, you know with the big heads. Cause there were so many of them. Man did I catch a bunch of trout on that solo trek down the Sierra's. I was at a lake called Huckleberry lake way the hell in there. And there was an outflow stream, and I stumbled across the Brook trout spawning in the outflow! Beautiful red spawning colors and just packed in there. First and only time ever saw something like that.
Great Video! I was just there the weekend of the the 3rd. Curious what Brand of waders & fins you have..? I have a Float Tube and researching the rest of the gear. Thanks in Advance and Keep up with the Videos!
So Cal Trout Cartel dood caught a lot of stockers at lake George. And I actually caught few at the lake Mary bridge but off to the side like you. Great times and oh bear came and ate my trout😂😂
@@socaltroutcartel574 im 23 I haven't been since I was 11 I used to stay in lake Marie at the biggest cabin cauae I had 7 brothers an sisters... Good times I want to see it now
Great video. I was all looking for my parked car on the side of the road near lake Mamie 😆. Next time we see ya we will say wassup and throw in a line! 🎣
My favorite is lake Mary campground, some other nice ones right around the mammoth lakes are twin lakes campground (mammoth not to be confused with twin lakes Bridgeport) or lake George campground, cold water creek campground is also very close by. Just down the road there are also new shady rest campground, old shady rest campground, and pine glen campground in the town of mammoth.
Yeah it gets tough when it’s windy. If it’s dreamy windy I look for spots that are blocked from the wind, maybe where the waterfall runs into upper twin lakes, or the back of lake George.
Yeah we never fished mammoth before usually bishop and the loop, but your videos got us jonesing to go up and try our luck Haha I just got back last week from the loop and the wind was bad. Hopefully it settles down by next month to throw those minnows and jigs
Hey man, you think it would be easy to get a campsite in July on a Monday, cooler video.
Happy I accidentally came across your vlog. Mammoth is quite stunning, nice vlog!

I lived in mammoth from 72 to 77 and still love this town. Went there a month ago. My first time there was in 65 it sure changed.
I can only imagine how it was back then, I’m trying to explore as much of it as I can now because I imagine it won’t be the same in 20 years.

Hopefully you didn’t get stuck in the stopped traffic that Saturday morning in the 15 freeway also! That set us back about 2 hours!
@@socaltroutcartel574 no we were following someone their but they were following the wrong person so that got us 2 hours behind 2!🙄😄
😆
Are you the same guy that fished with the guys from Stocked on Fishing on Virginia lakes a few years ago?
No, but that would have been awesome lol 🤙🏼
So Cal trout Cartel where do you get those minnows from...
I usually get them at bass pro shops but sometimes they don’t even have them there so I have to order online. I put a link in the description box
Hey bro which campground do you like for a quick trip that is near the lakes in mammoth? Going up next month and want to try to reserve something...🤙
