6:45 I was up a Whitney Portal once when the stock truck was releasing fish into the creek. The fish were trying to swim upstream back into the stock truck! It was very cool to watch.
Years ago I used to live on the Merced River outside El Portal. Each year I had about a month between being laid off at Yosemite and starting the season at Heavenly Valley. The stock truck came through every Wednesday. I got to know the guy pretty well. He showed me the spots where he'd release the big ones. He also taught me how to recognize the natives. I ate the stockers and released the natives. I also had a few good spots for gold sluicing. Never got rich, but found enough to keep me in beans and bacon. Those were definitely the good old days. Too bad I never knew it at the time...
