I have never seen 30-30 ballistics of delivering over 1000 ft/lbs of energy at or beyond 200 yards.

Just picked up a Ruger American Gen 2 today in 400 legend. The ballistics hit a sweet spot for me for my deer hunting application.

@@GodsCountryShootingOutdoors Once Barnes gets behind it I believe this caliber will be exceptional with the level of penetration and accuracy Barnes bullets offer as the caliber is already large enough that a +2x expansion is not really necessary.

The 350 Legend has become so popular that I’m not sure people want to replace it with a 400. Obviously, it has more recoil, too. Also, there is competition from 360 Buckhammer, too (this may be minimal, but nonetheless). Then 450 Bushmaster etc. I agree that the 400 Legend has an uphill battle.

If the .400 was marketed properly, as a 10mm Ultra Magnum, with double stack 20-30rd mags, with significantly more power than .350 Leg and high capacity compared to single stack .450 Bush, .458 Socom and .50beo, with more and better factory loadings, it could be a beast. The Turkey's Opinion hand loaded a 165gr solid maximus from a 16" it hit 2783f/s and 2837ft/lbs, on wikipedia a 24" .308 168gr BTHP is listed at 2650f/s and 2619ft/lbs, that is serious power from an AR15 platform and capable of high capacity double stack.

The BIGGEST positive the 400 Legend has is that it has slightly more taper from the base to the start of shoulder AND that makes it feed MUCH better than the 350 Legend, particularly in the Savage rifles and Ruger Americans.

That's a great point to share thank you. I really see it as a great cartridge if you could find ammo. Let me know how your rifle does. Thank you for watching and commenting. God bless

I’m addition to it feeding better than 350 Legend, it is achieving well over advertised velocity (up to 100 more fps), which is nearly unheard of.

@@ryanstines9748 my congrats was supposed to be in 2 days ago but I'm looking forward to getting that data. I found in my rem 783 in 350 legend that it really liked the winchester copper impact bullets. They shot well but had great penetration and weight retention for 2 hole tracking

We get it, you didn't like the 400L. I bought one and have loved shooting it. I have found ammo at the local farm supply and gun store. The ballistics are superior to the 350 and it's less punishing than the 450. My 350 is now the kids deer gun since it's only upside is lack of recoil. I'll be carrying 400L.

@@justinmiller7020 it's not that I don't like it. I think it hits a sweet spot between the 350 and 450, just can't find it practical for lack of availability in guns and ammo. But I live in southwest VA. Not really a straight walled cartridge state. However my curiosity is still going about the cartridge. I am looking at some smaller boutique bullet manufacturers that might offer some. 401 bullets for reloading. If winchester would load a couple more bullet types or Barnes would make a ttsx bullet for it I would likely buy one. Where are you from, and avervge shot yardage? Love to hear how it performs this year for you! God bless and let me know how it does.

Yea your data is flawed or "claimed".
Its real close between these. But like most all data diameter is never a inclusion. But absolutely makes a difference!! Remember none start out @ .400.

I have had one on order all summer...
I could have bought a Savage or a Mossberg. But I want a Ruger Predator or Std.
I have ammo molds and dies in hand.
If I dont see it next month Ill buy the Savage.

😆 your the only one I know with bullet molds! I'd really like to get one but man the lack of ammo gets me. I really thought about that savage 110 trail hunter light in the 400 legend.

  • @hendo337

You're comparing it to rounds that don't have the capability of being fired from an AR15 with a double stacked magazine, that in theory could have a capacity of 20-30rds if someone made mags. The .400 is significantly more powerful that .350 Leg and unlike .450 Bush, .458 Socom or .50Beo which are only single stack in an AR15 it can go double. The Turkey's Opinion ran a hand loaded 165gr maximus solid from a 16" barrel and got 2783f/s 2837ft/lbs compared to a .308 24" 168gr BTHP running 2650f/s 2619ft/lbs. Perhaps the .400Leg is not being marketed correctly. I see it as being 10mm Ultra Magnum and the meanest high capacity AR15 footprint round for 300yrds or less. It's a real shame that the rifles and the magazines and the rounds have not materialized.

@@hendo337 I think the data on the 400 legend proves it to be a very capable cartridge. When it first was getting talked about I was very excited about it. I really wish another 3 or 4 types of ammo would come out in 400 legend. If winchester would bring out a copper impact in it or the bonded hollow point in sufficient supply, I would definitely reconsider it. Thanks for your input and watching! God bless

    • @hendo337
      @hendo337 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes, it's a shame that progress seems to have stalled and nothing is hitting the market. You're right that if they don't get people into this round quick that it could fade away. The potential seems astronomical because of the potential power, double stack capacity and compact AR15 platform. I already have a 6.5 Grendel for longer ranges and the odds of me engaging anything over 300yrds is almost zero so I could use .400 Legend as my only AR.
