    I hope his ankle is fully healed, if we get anything close to his 22' production down the stretch we'll take it.

    Detroit is so very close to having it all together. They managed to win all of their games since Hutch went down with an insanely depleted edge roster. The defense has been playing out of their minds over the stretch since and hopefully Z will push them over the hill they need to truly start shutting their opponents down. As for Houston, it was a pleasant surprise to hear his name called given hes been kind of invisible so far this year. If he can step his game up a bit more then the defense will be all the better for it.

  • @Bluebloods7
    @Bluebloods7 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +22

    God I hope so. If he's able to find that bend again and be a consistent threat on passing downs, that'd be a massive boost for us. Carry this thing deep into the playoffs and pie in the sky hopes of Hutch making a triumphant return. Hutch, Z, Josh, Houston, Levi and the DT rotation...man if only we'd have ponied up a '25 6th for Calais we could actually be playing from depth at the D line come January.

    • @jxjarvi
      @jxjarvi 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Lions moving him outside creates a much better chance for him to bend around those tackles and keep them from grabbing him. When he is inside his ability is neutralized. He is a great QB spy, cause of his quickness and speed. He easily handled Stroud, who is no slouch as a runner.

    • @Bluebloods7
      @Bluebloods7 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jxjarvi yeah if they move him inside it's pretty much gonna have to be on the drop 7 or drop 8 kinda scheme they did on that play he had early in the game where he got Stroud on the 3rd down

    • @jamiethomas3306
      @jamiethomas3306 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@jxjarvi Well as we all know that has hampered him getting on the field, him not doing well on coverage and setting the edge. Now he looked way better back in coverage which will help him as well as rushing from the edge as he almost got a sack from there. I’m not sure about him setting the edge but he could be a guy to see the field on 2nd/ 3rd and longs because his bend looked pretty good although Houston completely sucks at protecting their QB. So we will see if it was progress or just playing against a poor Oline.

  • @FrayedQube
    @FrayedQube 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

    I’ve been waiting for some James Houston all 22. My theory is the ankle injury killed his bend around the edge by stiffening his ankle. Dorsiflexion is so hard to regain after injury, and he had a freaky range to begin with. May have also taken away some explosion from his first step.
    He is certainly capable of speed to power, and if he can learn a slick inside speed move we may see the new and improved James Houston V.

  • @blueisback3683
    @blueisback3683 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Thank you for this, he showed up once in a while in this game.
    Maybe he is getting that confidence back in his ankle and maybe this is just the beginning. If he can do something in 15-20 snaps like this, he can be exactly what they need. Everybody thinks of Z as that EDGE rusher, but he rushes from the 3 Tech a lot also so you still want someone like Houston in this kind of role.

    I just want to say the way this young man has been treated,and hated by some fans and people who cover the Lions is a disgrace. He suffered a terrible injury last season, it takes a player more time to recover mentally than the physical. He is probably just starting to trust his ankle again. It takes time to get back to pre- injury form. Some people place unrealistic expectations on players, when they don't meet those expectations they turn on them ,call them names, want them cut from the roster etc. Injuries are a reality in sports. Time has to be given to a player to work their way back.

    12:58 the only thing ive aeen close to that olineman strip was in 2000 wheb i was in high school and we had a hog offense in (all olinemen in skill positions) cuz we were winning 60-0, as we often did, and our 300 lb qb was getting sacked and yelled to our 3rd string offensive guard "hinkley! Catch" and tried tossing him a pitch 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage as he was going down lmfao. One of my favorite football memories ever lol.

    Wait a second, isn't that a hold on Tunsil that stopped Houston from crushing Stroud on the near-sack that went to Paschal? After Houston has beaten Laremy, Tunsil reaches back behind his field of view with his left hand and snatches and yanks a quick, strong handful of James' jersey. Looks like it's on his lower left side/abdomen area, and if you watch his jersey and his change of gait, pretty sure that Tunsil affected him enough to change his speed and angle... (I'm not crazy, right? At 12:57 and as the end-zone angle loops, Laremy clearly holds him with his left hand right before he's entirely out of the play... Right? He is so beaten he is still facing almost the opposite direction, loll That's cheating, my guy!)

    15:50 or so for me watching that non call that wr lost his balance on his own and Arnold had to make the play for the ball that’s why it was a no call even with anzalone redirected the pass attempt. Now about Houston and his development which is partly the reason for your vlog post the flaws and skills are all in these few plays. First let’s be clear he is position-less player “athlete” he not a true DE or LB. In AG scheme 41 has to learn both responsibilities cause he isn’t a 3 down player so on the different subs and calls determines what he doing effects his game but you can see he picking up better to your point has healed from injury however you noted his hands everywhere which could’ve been a flag and to my point he still not under control in those premier situations where he knows pin my ears back and get to it and just misses. He definitely will improve with more reps which he is lacking I think Brad and Dan are giving ample opportunity for him to get better since he will be bunched in with the next re-ups to be passed out all factors in how this team will be contenders for years and not just one

  • @stevenorth1564
    @stevenorth1564 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think you're overlooking the fact that everyone now knows that Houston can only win on an outside speed rush. He's not big enough to bullrush to the inside. So one play you called a "missed opportunity", I believe it's extremely likely Texans game planned that when James Houston was in the game, that would be the plan. Stroud should expect to step up, and the tackle should take Houston wide. You show one play where he bull rushes, but it works only because he commits a hands to the face penalty. I would love it if the James Houston story would've continued, but he's just too small to be able to push around 325 pound offensive lineman. He's a one trick pony, and it's hard for me to say that. And we've already discovered the other problem, which is smaller players in the trenches get injured more often. Wow I would love to be wrong.

    • @all_22_films
      @all_22_films  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The initial stab with his hands isn't to the face. He's already won before the hand slides to just outside the LT's chin/facemask. So you mischaracterized it for whatever reason.
      It's interesting to me. Multiple Pass Rush guys are out. Certain people will watch Lions DE's do nothing for a month, or more.
      Then, here's a guy who had an impact after not playing a role much for over a year?
      Let's go ahead and minimize it even though he's got wins against Laremy Tunsil on film. Got it. Makes sense.
