The Best Time (Cloud Cult Solo in the Woods)

This was originally shared exclusively with our Cloud Cult Patreon group. This song was in draft form for a long time. I had been working on it for well over a year but something wasn't clicking quite right. I thought initially that it was a song about presence...about being in the Here and Now...but a day of awakening came when I realized that it was a song about the need for my sobriety.
It brought a lot of tears and medicine to me when I realized what it was about, and that it was my time to make that hard choice for the long--haul.
I had been a nightly drinker for decades. I'd like to have a scapegoat and blame the music business and the fact that when you're touring, you're in a bar every night where they're giving you free liquor, but in truth, I kept up the habit when I got home from the road too. It got to the point where I ALWAYS had an excuse for why I needed to drink on a given night, and I was so dependent, it was literally every night for most of my adult life.
It is, indeed, a song about presence in the sense that we can only be fully Here and Now if we're NOT reliant on numbing...whether that be alcohol, drugs, or other addictions like screens, shopping, food, or fill in the blank.
I've been two years sober since originally posting this.
