    Great video! Most people have no idea the stress HGV drivers go through on a daily basis and most of the time due to other people’s bad decisions, ….not being aware, bad parking etc. well done for being cool calm and collected 👍

    Before the congestion charges I used to drive through London from Kent to the M4 just sightseeing in an artic instead of going round the M25. It took about 1 1/2 hours , exactly the same as going round the M25.
    I used to run up the M20 then pick up the South circular or I'd go up the old Kent Road to elephant and castle then vauxhall and cross the Thames then left towards Chelsea embankment and right past earls Court and left onto the A4 if I was going to Bristol but I'd go straight across to pick up the A40 to brum.
    I used to squeeze 40 footers most places in London even Bethnal Green, couldn't do it nowadays as it'd cost a fortune in extra taxes and tolls. Hope you pass these extra costs on.
    I used to park up overnight at a lorry park near Wembley and I've also parked up on the Woolwich ferry if I didn't use Truckworld. All gone now.

    I'm a coach driver and drove to white heart lane for the Tyson Fury fight. When we left the parking area which was on the other side of that low bridge, it took an hour and half to get to those lights that you had problems with. Because of that I was 15 mins from my working time limit even though we were double manned.

    Hi Sir Luke - sorry if this has already been mentioned (no time to read all the many comments)...in my humble opinion...a very sensible and logical decision around the 23-minute mark in the video to choose not to go through the housing estate to save some time (if any) - so, well done logical Luke! - LOVE your vlogs - take care and a big thanks.

    Your videos are becoming addictive. My dad used to do this years ago and had to manually handle all the food that went into the stores. Box by box. No tachographs in those days and the most important think he took was his giant flask of sweet coffee and corned beef sandwiches. I used to go with him in the 70's.

    Mate, it's not just lights on your trailer.
    I'd suggest to tell your boss to service trailer properly. Amount of yellow warnings on dashboard tells me that trailer should be looked at.
    Fuses in unit don't always solve the issue - trailers have their own fuse boxes too.
    AEBS warning is also worrying - it can be triggered by trailer ABS gone wrong. HOWEVER, it could be unit problem too. I had that on my DAF once. Turned into RED warning, ie. it was unit problem - it was losing brakes coz of CPU issue on unit.
    Anyway, wish you safe roads, safe journeys and happy home comings 😉

    When you turned right into that side road the parked truck had no off side front wheel on it. There was a jack under it. When you came out the white van was the tyre fitters vehicle and he had just replaced the wheel.

    Hi Luke, Just one point (which I did put in the comment of the other video you said about it but not sure you saw). The Rest is not how long you take off between shifts it between when you go on rest and 24 hours after you started that day. So if you start the day at 5am and you work until 5.30pm then you only get 11 1/2 hours rest. It doesn’t matter if you start at 6am the following day.
    Hope that makes sense (if it doesn’t then drop me a message back). The need for 11 hours (or 9 three times a week if reduced rest) rest within 24 hours from the start of shift catches a lot out (at least one person on every Driver CPC course).

    As someone who loves driving but not early mornings, I'd be interested for you to let us know jn the video what time your shift starts and finishes? Do you have any choice? Could you start later? Would you have more choice if you went through an agency?

    • @lukecinahgv
      @lukecinahgv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sort of do choose when to start and sort of don’t at the same time. Depends on the scenario. If I’m loaded (which I am for Monday morning) I normally need to be there first thing. In this case, that’s 06:30, it’ll take 40 minutes to get there plus I need fuel so I’ll probably leave the yard at 5:30 am. If I wanted to start earlier I could, but there wouldn’t be much point.
      Again if I’m empty and not loaded. I’ll be informed of there in loading, I then sim to be there for when they open. It could be 7am from the yard which would mean a later start, or a 7am collection an hour away so 6am start.
      Basically it depends on what I’m doing, where I’m going and how far away I am from it

    That is incredibly stressful just trying to thread the truck down a road build for a caravan! It appears the houses were built back in the horse and carriage days, and then the sidewalks are very generous to pedestrians. And the automobiles then get whatever is left over. In America, the design is completely the opposite, and I do think wrong - The automobile is priority, giving as much needed space for them. The sidewalks are an option depending if there was any planned easement for the properties. And if so, they are just wide enough for two pedestrians to pass each other shoulder to shoulder. Not enough for bicyclists and pedestrians to occupy at the same time. So then it forces cicyclists to be pushed out into the streets, whether or not they are properly designed to allow bicycles to travel safely. Most oftentimes, they have signs saying that cars and bikes can share lanes. But most are unprotected lanes risking the safety of the cyclists, especially if there is any distracted driving that happens a lot these days with smartphones.
    So as an HGV driver in these older narrow communities, you must be a little exhausted after completing the route, as if you were trying to drive in a white-out blizzard.

      I used to do DHL for TK-Maxx, one of my frequent drops was in Charing Cross Road, which involved driving down Upper Regent Street, Regent St, Piccadilly Circus, Shaftesbury Ave [ Taxis !!!] & Charing X.
      The thing that really grinds your gears is when stopped in traffic in Upper Regent, leaving 6-8' between you & the vehicle ahead, and the guy from the side road [ often in BMW, Audi or Disco ] decides to push into the gap, by putting a corner of his wing into the gap, judging that you won't actually drive over him. Luckily, nobody tried it just before I retired a couple of years ago.

      @@lukecinahgv it’s actually a PCV licence as I have a D D1 cat on my licence to n a C C1 but still doesn’t make the coach a bus as there is a difference, n not just the size of them either, as all coaches use tachos unlike buses which are also designed for stop start city work, unlike coaches which are designed to limited stop n longer journeys

      @lukecinahgv  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry anyone who says it doesn’t matter what the dvla page or gov page says is mad 😂 that’s the official page mate. What they say go. They say category d is a bus license
      What I saw was a coach. I agree. I’ll give you that. It wasn’t a bus. It was a Coach. But I really don’t think it matters and think you’re taking it all abit too seriously if I’m honest. They both carry passengers, and at the end of the day, they both have the same license. PSV as you say. But according to GOV, it’s a bus license.
      Anyway…. Interesting fact, did you know if you took you D+E (your bus and trailer license) and then took your category C you wouldn’t get your C+E (HGV and trailer license) because the truck license is classed as a higher category.
      However, if I (someone who has C+E) took my category D license, I’d automatically get my D1, D AND D+E license all in one go? I thought that was interesting. Just wondered if you knew this also?
