I’m a 74yo. young adult. I realize that I don’t Really Fit into the YSA program , but sometimes I remember how it felt to be that young and have your whole life ahead of you. If you all would permit me, I would like to say a few words of the wisdom I have gained in my life. Keep the Commandments. Follow the Prophet. Study the scriptures. Pray. Attend the temple often if you have a recommend. And most of all, Focus on Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.❤

As someone who did wander into these specific forbidden paths, I can bear my testimony that it’s never enough. Wickedness truly never was happiness, only a counterfeit of such that leads to more agony and despair than I could have ever imagined came from it. It sneaks up and slowly rots you from the inside, blaming said rot on religion. We must remember that sexual feelings are SACRED, not bad. But the adversary can point to such sacred feelings, and can confuse things, stating that such sacred feelings originate from same-sex practices, and is therefore our “most genuine self.” But that’s not true. The adversary constantly disturbed me with “you feel this love, so it can’t be bad.” We can love our brethren and sisters, but that doesn’t mean homosexual acts further or increase that love. From my experience, it does not. It can’t. I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Marriage is the highest ordinance and covenant that men and women can enter into. Naturally, Satan would want to desecrate it. The saddest part is that many people who do not understand God or his commandments try to justify this desecration by twisting God's own words and symbols(i.e. the rainbow). Such things make a mockery of God and God will not be mocked.

Why does God make people gay then? I couldn't just decide to be attracted to men, just like how I didn't decide to be attracted to women, it just happened. This is just like before 1978 when the LDS church claimed black people couldn't enter heaven. If it's not something you can control it wouldn't make since for God to punish you for it.

The Scriptures warn us of things about our leaders we can't see,
Preface… concerning the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb...
Behold, vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth...
And upon my house shall it begin...
First among those among you...who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house...(D&C 112:24-26)
O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to error...(2 Nephi 13:12)
Let no man deceive you by any means...that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition...
Who opposeth God...sitteth in the temple of God...(2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)
...until he be taken out of the way. (2 Thessalonians 2:7)
While that man, who was called of God and appointed...shall fall by the shaft of death, like as a tree that is smitten by the vivid shaft of lightning. (D&C 85:8)
Never in the Bible or any Mormon Scripture can you read of a prophet, apostle or prophetess saying these words,
    I promise.
For to do so would make themselves instead of God.
Promises are only made by God Himself never by man throughout all the Sciptures except, Nehemiah 5:23 and Joshua 9:21, where man made a promise for a negative outcome.
So, we see from Scripture man’s promises result in a bad outcome.
Beware of the promises made to you by man saying, I promise, in behalf of the God of Jacob, the Scriptures warn us.
...the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation...(2 Timothy 3:15)
If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)

God's laws will always prevail, yet we have our free agency. We are free to choose. However, once a choice has been made, we are not free to choose the outcome of that choice, whether good or bad. Make a bad choice, reap the consequences, yet here is the amazing part of all this, our Father in Heaven loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to take upon Him all the sins of the world. If we just remember God's laws and be obedient to them, if we humbly repent of those bad choices, our sins will be forgiven. The adversary's aim is to distort God's laws and to pervert the minds of men. We have a choice, the question is what choice are you going to make?

In simple terms, it is not wrong to respect the agency of another, even when it means they are turning from God's light. That is their choice and so long as they are not committing crimes against another, that is to be respected, or rather, one needn't respect the decision, but we all ought to respect the individual.
In the case of a same-sex marriage, if both parties have agreed to this, while you do not have to agree with the decision, it is not causing harm to anyone but those who have willfully agreed to it. It doesn't make it a good decision, or even one you have to respect, but so long as one does not infringe against another, only God need judge them, as the act of committing sin is primarily done to God.

Can you part yourself from modern ages mentality and culture sets as well as from our today's world perception frameworks when talking about that? Do you suppose Abraham was not a man of God because he was authorized by God AT THAT TIME to have more than one woman in legitimate relationship in his household? Do you suppose a bit more recent people of God were any less people of God just for following the same? Or do you really think that more recent prophets of God who received the commandment of God to discontinue that pattern are any lesser people of that same God than previous ones were? It all comes from our Father. All you need is just better understand HIM

Because the church frowns in any discussion of these issues with anyone other than fellow members, I was told to never talk to them about my sexuality. So they could pray for me but they couldn't talk to me about it. Thank God I had faith that a higher power was on my side. They stayed loyal to the church, but missed out in knowing and taking any pride In the son who was a true Christian. A son who tried to love everyone. So I will gladly leave any judgement of my life to a higher power. And now I see your state is trying to push a message of "not in my backyard" when it comes to immigration. What is the scripture that says that God instituted "mariage"? Adam and Eve were never married according to Genesis. Mariage is ordained by MAN. God instituted LOVE, and obviously, this church is incapable of emulating Him. I am SO done with this church. I now belong to a Christian church that accepts ALL of God's children, no matter who they love. Telling gay people that they can love, but not "actively" do so is inhuman and cruel. EVERYBODY is worthy of love. Get your mind out of people's pants and get into people's heart.

Russell Nelson wants to lay down "God's law" on marriage sweetly but firmly, yet the facts are not squarely on his side, and God’s reality runs much deeper than he is willing to admit. He is like a Newtonion physicist in the age of quantum physics, who wants to champion old laws of God's universe that clearly do not explain the whole picture. He has a binary view of gender and sexuality that ignores the way these things actually come about in the physical bodies we occupy. If God’s whole plan for humanity were heterosexuality to be expressed within mixed-gender marriage, what on earth was God thinking when he made homosexuality, bisexuality, hermaphroditism, gender dysphoria, etc? Why isn’t everyone’s gender invariably defined by an XY or YY arrangement of chromosomes? What about people born with 45,X (monosomy); 47,XXY; 47,XYY; 47,XXX; and so on?
To say that these chromosomal anomalies do not reflect the Creator’s intent is to say that God regularly makes mistakes in his beautiful plan of human sexuality. (Nelson, a medical man, should realize this.) It would be better to acknowledge that, like time and gravity at the edge of their measurability, these things point to a universe different from the old models that have been used to describe it. Of course, Nelson is saddled with the defense of the old understanding. It is only by ignoring new understanding that he can claim God’s law has never changed, when, in fact, new understanding changes everything relevant to sexuality and the institution meant to contain it.
In his prayer for the Saints to enjoy “greater capacity to receive revelation” on this subject, Nelson presumes that the Holy Spirit will ever only offer one answer for all of diverse humanity. There can be nothing new in that answer because it has to be the same old answer that does not begin to address the full breadth of God’s creation of human sexuality. If the Saints' revelations do not conform to Nelson's orthodoxy, he will "pull rank" and discredit them as Satanic deception just as his predecessors have done. Thus, any additional enlightenment would confuse the issue in his mind. Nelson wants the Saints to be guided not by facts but by feelings, and these feelings must lead to a foregone conclusion or else they are invalid. A circular approach like this might make sense to people whose sexual predisposition falls within the range of average, but it will never work for LGBT people whose very existence calls the traditional theology into question. They feel the injustice of it.
To saddle them with the old burden is to require them to put their faith in a creator who has a streak of perversity in his character - a creator who implanted in LGBT people brain differences from birth that are immutable yet destined to desire the very thing that is most destructive to them. Such a burden would be disfiguring to the faith as well as the psychological development of any individual, and I daresay heterosexuals would not be willing to bear it. The witness of the Holy Spirit affirms to my heart and mind that this fundamentally lopsided theology is unacceptable. GOD IS BETTER THAN THIS. That is what the "greater revelation" I sought makes crystal clear to me. President Nelson, with your prophetic mantle, your educated mind, and your charity for all of humanity, YOU CAN AND MUST DO BETTER THAN THIS.

He says "In the beginning, marriage was ordained by God". No, that is NOT the truth. The institution of marriage predates all of the Abrahamic religions and existed outside the realm of influence or knowledge of the Abrahamic religions. So there is absolutely no argument he can present to claim his religion and the god of his religion, is the one responsible for this social institution. Facts about human history contradict that. He then beseeches the "youth" to discern right and wrong. The simple fact is that there's no rational argument anyone can present to define same-sex attraction and/or marriage as being wrong. The deceptions are on his part and the part of his belief.

Also, what does he mean by, in the beginning? Has he not taken an anthropology class and learned how these concepts developed over time?
And what is his evidence for saying God said these things in the beginning? All I can find is the writings of Bronze Age thinkers from just a few thousand years ago, not anywhere close to the beginning.
It's always a man saying that God said. Never "God" "Himself". Men saying God said. Hearsay and legend. Reinforced by dogma and emotion.

Legal/Civil marriage belongs to the government. Christ said that we should render unto Ceasar that which is his. Marriage falls into this since it is a civil government, using civil procedures to determine what civil rights and privileges to extend to its civil members. 1 Cor. 10:29 & D&C 134:4 also condemn those who let their religious beliefs prompt them to infringe upon the rights and liberties of others. it would be against the OFFICIAL doctrine of the Church (meaning the scriptures) to vote for or promote any law that infringes upon same-sex marriage.

The following letter was sent from the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Church leaders in California to be read to all congregations on 29 June 2008:
Preserving Traditional Marriage and Strengthening Families
In March 2000 California voters overwhelmingly approved a state law providing that “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” The California Supreme Court recently reversed this vote of the people. On November 4, 2 008, Californians will vote on a proposed amendment to the California state constitution that will now restore the March 2000 definition of marriage approved by the voters.
The Church’s teachings and position on this moral issue are unequivocal. Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God, and the formation of families is central to the Creator’s plan for His children. Children are entitled to be born within this bond of marriage.
A broad-based coalition of churches and other organizations placed the proposed amendment on the ballot. The Church will participate with this coalition in seeking its passage. Local Church leaders will provide information about how you may become involved in this important cause.
We ask that you do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman. Our best efforts are required to preserve the sacred institution of marriage."
