Actually, in my experience, competent people try to fix faults that occurred anyway, so the tactful criticism becomes a way to broaden and deepen the scope with further input (from those doing the tactful criticism) allowing even more contingencies or pitfalls to be handled in advance of the next action.
I learned a pretty cool way of giving criticism. It’s called a “compliment sandwich” you start with a short small type of compliment involving whatever your talking about. Than you give your constructive criticism. And than you finish with another small short compliment or reword your original compliment. People seem to be very receptive to this because they feel good that ther doing some things right but also hear what they need to improve on. Helps keep egos and tempers down while still delivering your message. Example. I like the content in your video and it captures my attention. I believe the correct word you're looking for in your assessment of criticism is THEN as oppose to THAN. THAN is a comparative word between 2 or more objects. THEN is a continuation of sequence of events. It's not my place to criticise, but as an avid reader of online posts, and especially one like yours I resonate with, I can't let you continue down the written path of erroneous effort.
Letting people know all the time - especially when you’re not giving criticism - that your goal (as their leader) is to make them into the best team ever, professionals in the industry, best o f the best. They know that you *always* have that as your goal, you are focused on the mission (I work in non-profit) and this is how you show up. Then, when you give criticism (the sandwich works even if people can see it a mile off), they know you are there for them. Their failings are mine. Their successes are theirs.
Many people that I've encountered in my day take the attitude their sh*t don't stink towards me, and nothing sets me off quicker, and surprised I stand up to it as with diplomacy as possible with causing the other person his, her, or their dignity in return. I'm at a point in life that I need lots of encouragement to get done what needs attention such as meeting deadlines. So treat me like someone who you want to come back and resume my task. Criticism comes in lots of shapes, sizes, and my favorite - colors! I want people to know about me that I want to do right by you, but sometimes my ability does not add up. If one doesn't like my performance - that's cool. This is not by a long shot a perfect world.
People want to be right. You tell them what they've done well, and show them what's wrong. Then tell them about the time you did it worse. Hey no big deal man, just gotta watch the little shit.
I was thinking about how to reconcile giving criticism to others vs taking extreme ownership. I think internal extreme ownership is constant. Except sometimes that can turn into, “I didn’t give this person enough criticism/feedback, so that they could get better, so that they would stop making this mistake. That’s my mistake.”
Sometimes, no matter how well-articulated, some people just lack the tone and charisma to deliver criticism well no matter how impersonal or kindly stated. It is a very cruel reality I've learned first-hand.
Being autistic, like I am, makes it really difficult to deal with people. The gloves are off when I discuss things. But, I'm looking for them because they seem like a wonderful luxury. I bet you get way more social acceptance with them.

My chief Tom "Pudge" Evens would get on the warpath if you screwed up and ride you hard, until somebody else screwed up. The I would do what ever I could to keep him off of me. I figured out later that he opperated this way to keep the officers from dishing out punishment. They left it all up to him.
