Does anybody remember Saturday Night Live going into a commercial break when The Pogues performed it live? At the time any pro Republican voices were banned from broadcast by Thatcher's government.
Yup. I couldn't wait for that particular episode of SNL as at the time, The Pogues were my favourite band of all...after The Pogues spent some time being my favourite musical artists, Miles Davis took over that mantle....then the Grateful Dead...and the Grateful Dead have remained in that top spot for the past 25 years....
@@wangson I read something that said C4 knew Birmingham 6/Guildford 4 was coming as the band had sound checked and rehearsed earlier. It is claimed they were prepared to let it go as a protest against censorship, but The Pogues overran and they had to go into a commercial break. The plot thickens.
Is that right? Wow! I suppose that may be the case. It's possible that someone in the cast, writers, producers took offence to it and decided to do something to , effectively silence that song.@@michaellavery4899

Ah the 80s - chorus effects on a live acoustic guitar tone. Like gorgonzola cheese on chocolate cake
Britain get out of Ireland.
Great song- and I love Shane…..but he could have sang better in these days. Wasn’t too good here either……
