These two bands have a great history together, are practically related. It was amazing to go to Cal and perform with their band.... And really cool to see a band outside our conference play our fight song......that doesn't happen often. Hanging out with the Cal band during and after rehearsal was an amazing experience! Go Bucks, go Bears!

Cal honors our worthy opponents and those that came before us. Hope you had a good time at Tellefsen Hall! :)

It's a Cal tradition to play an out-of conference opponent's fight song as a show of sportsmanship.

So far, Cal Band plays Ohio State’s fight the best. Love it.

I believe that was the first time I've seen a non-B1G band play Across the field as well as both bands on the field at the same time for The Star Spangled Banner.

Cal Band plays a full field pre-game every time. The "Flying Wedge" to open the show has been a standard for decades and the "Bass Strut" is an obvious homage to Ohio State, but Cal Band has also been doing it with the full Bass line to form the tail of the Script Cal for decades.

RED RUM What is the Cal Band spelling out during the 2nd song (begins at the 2:20 mark)? It kind of looks like “Fiat Low” being played to the far sideline.

Pregame starts with the Cal Band cheering in the North Tunnel. "Pick up your heels, turn your corners square, and DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE!" The first formation is the "Flying Wedge", a throwback to the old gridiron offensive formation.

@@redrum482 The cheer is one of the things that Cal Band borrowed from Ohio State. You have to admire Cal Band's good taste.

The fight song isn't minor. ;)

Pregame is always "Big C" opener (1913) with #2 and #3 slots rotating among several fight songs, and always #4 "Fight for California" (1909).

@@redrum482 Sons of California is always song number 2 and always incorporates drill that corresponds to the California Spellout part of the song. It’s the third one that changes every year, and basically serves as a transition to get to the concentric squares for the Script Cal and Fight for California. I remember playing Illinois’s fight song when they came to town, but we didn’t do any specific formations, so that was pretty cool. I miss the full field spread and America the Beautiful, but gotta make time for more stupid commercials I guess.
