Do you wear rechargeable hearing aids or hearing aids with disposable batteries? Tell me why... Matthew
Rechargeable. In the end I'm not really sure if rechargeable are actually better for the environment. I worried more about battery replacement ease and having to carry batteries with me.
I wear the rechargeable Lumity L90 because the US Veterans Administration prescribes them. Extremely convenient and when I take them from the charger are always 99% charged. At the end of the day, they are still 65% charged. That is in the Florida environment. I use my Phonak APP all day to adjust my hearing in my environment from Normal to Restaurant to TV, etc. They are outstanding.
I am miserable with rechargeable aids. The charge case battery fails often, the hearing aid batteries fail often, and my usage fluctuates and the convenience of a reliable and full battery is necessary in my life. I have replaced 2 hearing aid batteries (warranty running out soon) and 1 $250 recharge case. Whereas bulk order batteries, for $250 I could purchase around 1000 batteries which would last for around 3-4 years of 8hr daily use. In reality, I don't use my aids daily either, resulting in potentially 5-7years of use.
Between the cost of replacing Li-Ion batteries in each aid and the charge case, it's a no-brainer for a customer to stay on cell batteries, without even taking the convenience factor into account.
Disposable batteries...bcs... wear aids 6am to midnight 7d/wk, use BT for phone, tv, online edu, youtube, audiobooks, podcasts, for hrs every day. I don't have time to stop and charge aids...it takes less than a minute to change both batteries. ALSO... 312 battery? I moved to size 13 and will not go backwards, so hopefully Phonak will up their Lumity aids before I need new ones.

I have Phonak Lumity Audeo Paradise L30 and it is amazing. And secondly I am the user for Phonak and it’s been a life changing since I have a loss of hearing. Most people saw my hearing aids but, I wouldn’t care because I am glad I can hear again. I wanted new colors for hearing aids. However, I have the second hearing that is exactly the same as my primary hearing aid was the Phonak Lumity platform but, it does need a sound adjustment. It’s not clear as my primary hearing aid. Thank you for sharing this video.
Edited: Yes, the current hearing aids that I am wearing is the rechargeable type.

I have 4 hearing aids all rechargeable. Years ago my hearing aids were disposable battery devices.

I use the Phonak Aud'eo P90-13T. I like the replaceable batteries because I stream a lot and spend a lot of time on the phone.

rechargeable. i’m retired,most of the time i’m just hanging around the house. i live alone. so the only time i need them ,watching utube,or tv. never had the batteries run down on me. i have the Audeo pairadice.
Have had HA"s with batteries previously and was fine with that but wanted the benefit of practical waterproofness in the Life model. Don't see how that could be offered with batteries. I do stream a lot myself and charge usually only becomes an issue after I should have called it a day and gone to bed anyway. Happy that others can get what they desire though! Go Phonak!

I have a pair of 6 year old, top of the line Phonak rechargeable hearing aids, and have struggled a lot with them, mostly with back ground noise and women's voices. Also I can't listen to Music at all, it sounds so atrocious
When I hear of 15 - 20 percent improvement I am very disappointed, I would like to see a 300 to 400 percent improvement.
So I demoed some new Phonak top of the line hearing aids 6 months ago Here In Australia, and found that the Com Pilot II is no longer available! A huge disappointment to me.
I love the features on it. the most useful is the 3.5mm jack, which I can plug in a Lapel Mic into so that people can hear me better on the phone, because it doesn't pick up so much background noise, ( I don't want to loose that feature)
Also I plug in the church sound system into it from the headset out on the PreSonus AudioBox iTwo. I definitely don't want to loose that feature either.
Being able to answer the phone via the Com Pilot II, and adjusting the volume with it is very useful too. Much better than smacking my ear a dozen times only to find that I have hung up on the caller! More frustration.
So my question is dose anyone make hearing aids with something like the Com Pilot II, and why did Phonak drop it from theirs?
The behind the ear mic is inadequate for any environment that isn't quit, which is almost everywhere I am, when the phone rings.
I watch your TH-cam videos, and feel that you have a real handle on what is available and give an honest opinion based on your experience, Too bad you aren't here in Sydney Australia.
Can you recommend anyone here?

In terms of developments tech has come on a long way since the compilot, and you should look into the Roger on in v2, which I have a video covering all of its features here th-cam.com/video/hOFuC9982w8/w-d-xo.html.
Whist they're not cheap, they're a real multitool for a tonne of different environments, where your hearing aids will struggle.

You suggest the Rodger on in v2, I watched your review, but I can't see if you can plug a 3.5mm cable into it from my audio system, or a Lapel mic, also can you answer your phone with it, or do you have to tap your ear?

I’m wearing the Oticon More 1 rechargeable. Before, I had the Oticon OpnS1 that used replaceable batteries. So I have experience with both styles. Each has its pros and cons. If the body of the HA is able to be smaller with replaceable, I would pick them over rechargeable. If there’s no size advantage I would go with the rechargeable.

As having variable days, I love my M90-312T's. If I go dead, it's less than a minute. And I'm hearing again. - Not half an hour.

Rechargeable. Batteries go flat very quick with sweat. Always search for batteries amongst the gear to replace. A quick 30 min recharge if I need beyond 16hours of use to have ample charge left.

Rechargeable all the way. Lasts all day & the recharging case can get me 5-6 refills just like the earbuds in my kit. As a traveling person it's much more convenient than keeping in batteries or having one quit at an awkward moment. Not to mention the environmental impact.

@@miracoli16 Because the rechargeable versions have limited use-time and when they're discharged it takes hours to re-charge them. Phonak's rechargeable models, in particular, are well known to have shorter lives than their competitors. Replaceable batteries last many times longer and if they go dead on you can be replaced in seconds.

They often work for 4-5 hours after a 30 min. charge. That's absolutely o.k. for me. Some advices have a running time of up to 40 hours.
@@philipfarnam6013 When I take my signia silk charge &go out of my ear in the evening, the battery is still half full.
Aditionally you can get 4-5 hours runningtime by a 30min-charge. And other compititors are even better.
Haven't been able to afford hearing aids yet. But looking right now and trying to find the right one for me. Given everything I do, and how busy my life is. And I don't like the idea of dumping batteries in the bin. Rechargeable is incredibly important.

😅 I have Oticon real 1 rechargeable I stream all my calls and do some streaming music, after 15 hours of use I still have 30% battery left. What I like about Oticon is the rechargeable battery can be replaced at my audiologist office with no down time. Plus not having to buy batteries so it’s rechargeable for me.

I will never ever use a rechargeable batteries. does go with hearing aid needs. what about if you forget the charger, what about if your hearing aids die during the day, what about power outage.

I’m presently using my Liberty Lucid #13 battery type. My Widex Moments need a new battery and me have other problems. Just out of warranty. Considering Phonec or Oticon. I can go either way on batteries.
Finally! Their Cros aids are absolutely terrible with battery life. Can only get through like 10 hours a day. Which means in order to get through a full day, I have to go without the cross receiver, or take them out to recharge the aids in the middle of the day. Battery version is going to be a game changer.
I have Phonak Audeo Lumity L70 RL Life (rechargeable hearing aid) and it last 27 hours (without heavily streaming).
I think people are using too much "Power" such as: Prescription volume is increased a lot, using features like Dynamic Noise Canceling and Stereo zoom 2.0 increased a lot throughout the day and Too much streaming.
I used to have the Paradise P70 RT and I was using too much Prescription volume (basically was maxed out where it began to cause issues) and it lasted for 12 hours with or without streaming.
With the Lumity my settings are very minimal.
I only use Dynamic Noise Canceling and stereo zoom 2.0 when I'm in noisy environments.
My Prescription volume is low where it's not using too much power.
I also think Phonak also significantly improved their lithium ion batteries where it does last a whole day.
While I am glad Phonak did release disposable batteries option on the Lumity platform I still always get the rechargeable version.
It is possible that the Life Hearing Aids have better battery life but that's my thoughts but it may not be the case

Replaceable batteries for me, which is why I bought Paradise 13T. I have Phonak aids that still work from 2015. I doubt rechargeables would hold much charge after 9 years.

I have the P90T with number 13 Batteries. It has come time for an upgrade and now I don't have the option for the 13-size battery. The rechargeable doesn't fit my lifestyle and usage and at the end of the day I'm left not being able to hear. I was hoping the Phonak would come out or offer the 13-size battery hearing aid again. I have ordered the Lumity 312 and going to give them a try. I just hope the battery will hold up as good as the 13. With the P90-13 I could go 4 to 6 days depending on usage. I have been told that the 312 will last around 2 to 4 days Can you conform that for me?

Battery!!!!
Rechargeable batteries aren’t per se more env friendly. Their construction requires a lot of mining, and good recycling options are limited. Lithium v. Zinc is far worse in a landfill. Plus rechargeable cells have a limited charge/discharge cycle life, and degrade over time (like when your old iPhone battery doesn’t quite last as long as it used to when it was new). I don’t yet have a hearing aid, so I don’t know how long people use them before upgrading… I know they are ridiculously expensive, so I imagine several years?
I think that the rechargeable batteries must be more ecological since you aren't throwing them out once a week. However, I admit I don't have any data to refer to to support my supposition. I have two sets of rechargeables and I never have had to replace the batteries yet and they last all day and some. They are absolutely for me far more convenient than the ones with zinc. I agree, HAs are ridiculously expensive. I wish I could take advantage of the new OTCs, but my hearing deficit is too severe.
