    I appreciate the fair and balanced tone of your presentation that avoids either extreme of fanboy cultishness …or excessively bitter criticism. It’s encouraging to see Winnebago responding to owner feedback and implementing design improvements with each iteration of the Ekko.
    I own a 23’ Coach House B+ based on the Ford E-450 chassis, but have a high regard for the overall conceptual design of the Ekko, and believe that one needs to appreciate the rig as a an evolving ‘work in progress’.
    The Ekko represents an intriguing milestone in Class C/‘B+’ platform development that has obviously resonated with consumers, and will influence the trajectory of RV design innovation for decades to come.
    There’s massive opportunity for other manufacturers to expand the market share in this ‘AWD adventure B+’ category, and hopefully competing designs will soon emerge to refine the quality and capabilities of this new class of RV.
    I’d love to see higher end manufacturers release their particular vision of what the Ekko might have been, if product specification for the rig was increased by $25K-$50K. ‘Competition improves the breed’

      Thank you for your feedback and thoughtful analysis of the Ekko presentation. We're glad to hear that you appreciate the fair and balanced tone of the presentation.
      Your comment of higher-end manufacturers releasing their vision of what the EKKO could be with an increased product specification is intriguing. I know that Palmo HYMER in Germany produces similar units built in the Mercedes platform and they definitely look appealing.
      Competition indeed drives improvement. It would be fascinating to see the unique interpretations and innovations that more US based manufacturers could bring to the table.
      Again, we are grateful for the time you took to share your thoughts on our video and we hope to hear from you in the future. Best wishes, Jason and Michelle.

    Magnet 🧲 strength can be reduced slightly simply by putting some electrical or masking tape (layers) over the magnet to create a bit of space so it still holds the cabinet well but not so strongly.

    Try tilting the back of the chair forward, the opposite of reclining. That should allow you to swivel the seats without opening the door. We have a 22' ekko and haven't had to open the doors to swivel.

    Fantastic walk through! Thank you so much for the unbiased review. I am disappointed in the cabinet magnets falling out, no dividers in them. I think we should expect more for this price range. I guess what your paying for is the four season capability. If the EKKO with its off grid and cold weather capability and leisure travel vans with its luxury and fit and finish could have a baby it may be as close to perfect as one could get.

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, thank you for watching our video and providing feedback.
      Yes, it is a little disappointing to think that Winnebago chose to use magnets instead of just a soft closing hinge.
      I would agree about what to expect based on the price special and some of the finishes.
      I do believe that the vehicle was marketed and targeted towards the Fourseason capability although there are still some things to be reconsidered on that as well.
      Overall, we’re very satisfied with the EKKO and the pluses definitely outweigh the minuses.
      The good thing is some of these items that can, and should be upgraded are simple enough that we can eventually tackle them on our own. Winnebago did make an improvement on the 2023 and got rid of the magnets.
      Thank you again for watching and subscribing.

    Winnebago made a few changes to the 2023’s that are being delivered as of mid March 2023.
    The overhead cabinets now have struts to hold them up. The Balmer MC-618 has been relocated to the Lithionics battery compartment above the shower drain pump. The Xantrex Freedom Inverter is now in a sealed area.
    Winnebago is listening to their customers suggestions.
    Nice walk through video. Thx! 👍🏻

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they have begin to make the necessary improvements and it can only improve. My hope is they consider the pre-2022 models for updates. Most importantly the Balmar relocation to the seat compartment and the gulper relocation. But probably not going to be considered across the board. Thank you very much for sharing and watching. I hope you are doing well and safe travels ahead for you.

    Jason and Michelle, great video! I knew I was going to like it when Jason introduced, “I will try to be brief since most of you own one, or want to own one, etc.” Thank you for giving your audience some basic knowledge credit. Your superb video confirms: “I want to own one!” In fact, I would take an EKKO over an LTV. For me, two big pluses are gear garage and 23 Ft, instead of 25-26 ft. What other Pros would you include?
    Im sure your excited to make some upcoming Spring trip videos😊

      Grant, 🙏 Thank you for the kind compliment. Haha on the “keep it brief” I couldn’t think of another way to not bore all of us without redundancy. I agree on the garage. This and the bathroom were the major selling point. Also the reliability of the proven V6 and AWD as well the affordable maintenance. As for the other PRO’s, there are several. What I’ll do is write a few down in a separate reply or maybe, one day Michelle and I could go “Live on TH-cam”? That would probable be a scene. 😂. Thanks again for watching our channel. Thank you for the great share. I do not own a motorized rv but an Airstream. I am considering it. Your "critique" is good because it is what a user of the product experiences. On Airforums many of the owners complain about heat in the summer and warn would be owners to make sure and get two ac units even in smaller units. Being an owner of a Safari, a model that is a hybrid of current models, I have fewer windows. I have one ac unit and have no issues with cooling. I am convinced that it is the windows transferring heat over any issue with ac cooling so I hear ya on those bedroom windows. Amazing that people want all the windows but then don't think about how they provide so little insulation.

    Great video! love how in depth and to the point your videos always are. Our travel trailer has the same issue, no heat vents in the bedroom. I can't begin to understand why they would design it that way. Please let us know what you come up with as a solution, we're tired of leaving the door open and cranking the heat to stay sort of warm. Keep it up Jason and Michelle, love the channel! Cheers!

    hello to follow up on the problem of the seats which block on the door, do not turn inwards, I would try to switch the rotating plate under the seat to make them turn outwards, (if the problem exists with both seats) , there is much more space in the middle provided that the seats can turn 360 degrees

    • @ekkonesters599

      🤔 that’s a very interesting idea. It would even make it more convenient if it works simply because the lock/release arm would be more accessible in respect to where one would want to grab the handle anyway. I’m going to look under the swat to see if the bolt pattern is the universal as well as look for anything that may be an obstruction.

    this was very helpful; I am trying to decide between the Tiffin Midas and the Ekko.

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The TIFFIN Midas, looks like a great vehicle. It may come down to what the expectation is at the end of the day.
      The EKKO, offers a lot of conveniences from being able to Boondock stealth parking so to speak, fitting into general parking spot, more often than not, and the ability to modify, allowing a little more off the beaten path adventures. The MIDAS reminds me of the typical class C motorhome, which is great for those looking for that design style and some of the larger creature comforts.
      But even though the EKKO is considered a class C it definitely has a class be looking uphill, and some respect. Good luck on making your choice. Thank you for visiting our channel and subscribing. Hope you have a great day.

      But really WBG being in business for so long should be able to get this right, it's basic stuff!

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@paulbailey5915 in many respects, I completely agree.
      Of course, not being associated with Winnebago, or having any insight as to what happens at these factories, I’m told that a lot of these things were done during Covid, a slow down in the workforce, and supply chain issues.
      However, pre-face to the build the engineering should’ve been more thoroughly evaluated and tested in many respect.
      But I will say of all the vans that I’ve been in and the custom builds that I’ve seen the EKKO is at the top of the list for builds, and quality.
      I think the reason that we don’t hear too much about the smaller manufacturers out there, is that most of the other vans that you see running around in the class B/B+ are more independent companies. So they’re not going to get the kind of exposure that Winnebago gets, which, of course comes with an exposure to criticism. Mostly, I think that they could’ve spent more time taking care of the placement of the Balmar, the original placement of the Gulper pump, the lithium, battery placement and wiring, and some interior refinements, such as the window extension arms. Of course there’s a few small things in between. But again, overall completely satisfied. A ot going on inside this small vehicle and in the big scheme of things she keeps performing very well. I’d say highest percentage of the time that things aren’t working properly tends to be human error. So also worth considering that this is a house on wheels and is subjected to so many different climates, road conditions, and of course, the driving habits of individuals. Thanks for watching our channel and sharing. Take care and appreciate the feedback.

    You are an incredible asset to those (like me) who are serious about purchasing an EKKO.
    I photographed the 10 add-ons and I will highly likely purchase those.
    With regards to your front end mods---which modifications do you think 'everyone' should get. Although the 'Mad Max' grill looks great I anticipate allotting money to those items that are 'essential'.......I think the BAJA row lights would be very helpful, which other '2' would you strongly endorse?

      Craig, first, I apologize for the delay in responding. I’m not sure how I missed this.
      I'm glad to hear that our videos have been helpful in your journey to purchase an EKKO. It's a fantastic vehicle for sure and we get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
      With the right add-ons, it can be even better suited for more adventures.
      For front-end modifications, it's smart to prioritize essentials. The BAJLP6 lights are a great choice for better visibility and probably one of our favorite upgrades for night during and safety.
      Two other modifications I'd strongly recommend for protection and for adding a front recovery point are: (we have a new website with these items as well).
      1. **CaTuned Bumper**: (winch).
      2. **Skid Plates**: Essential for protecting the underside of your vehicle from rocks, debris, and other potential hazards you might encounter off-road.
      Thanks again for the support, and best of luck with your EKKO purchase! I hope you manage to get away from SF and hit the road for some amazing journeys.

      First, I wanna say thank you very much for the kind words and compliment for taking time to watch your videos and share your thoughts. I guess mileage question is always been one that is debated amongst the group. I think I can summit up like this if you pedal to the battle with your twin turbo V6 Eco-boost some fuel for sure. Take your time. Enjoy the view stick to the speed limit throttle in and out on hills and inclines we have plenty of 12.7 7and 17.5 miles per gallon. And yes for those in the comment we’re 55-57 miles an hour and I watch the RPMS. I can’t promise that with crosswind and headwind and a major Hill.
      But most people are getting 10.9 on average which for the size of this vehicle given what its capacity is, AWD and all the bells and whistles that’s very fair.

      I just watched a video of the Oasi 610 by Wigamm. There are a number of things that I think will be considerably nice with the build. The multiple sleeping arrangements, the full fiberglass shell and of course a few other misc. items. However, I would need to walk through one to be fully convinced that the "19'" arrangement really lends itself to comfort based on the fact that the claim is 5 adults can sit "comfortably". I'd say two-three and then it will be a little to close for comfort. I will keep my eye out when it hits the States. For now, I will stick with the EKKO. Thanks again for sharing and watching our channel.

    Nice video,
    I am a bit confused about the blind spot system. Why is it an off brand? I've seen this issue before from other EKKO owners. Our Transit (Class B) has the Ford blind spot monitoring system, so I don't understand why Winnebago doesn't order that. Does it have something to do with the EKKO being built on a cutaway?
    Thanks for all the great info!

    For $165-200k I’d expect the front seat to be 1000% perfect at easy swiveling, the blind spot monitor to work flawlessly, cabinet door magnets not ripping out, a ventilation hood over the stove, plenty of heating/AC available in the bed area, and better placement options for the TV to name just a few things. And it’s the size of a van… for $200k. Winnebago is apparently counting on a sucker being born every day🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@BlondieHappyGuy …just had an idea re: the moisture buildup in the bedroom after posting that comment; a small AWG unit (Atmospheric Water Generator) would dehumidify and provide a certain amount of off-grid water. But still… for the price of several acres of land and/or a decent small van/trailer & SUV setup and years of traveling like that, its pretty janky for $200k

    Great walk through... I'm in the market for one of these and we took one for a drive. We were very disappointed with how much road noise there was in the cab when driving at highway speeds. Do you have the same opinion?

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Andrew, overall these are pretty amazing vehicles yet like anything room for improvement. Initially, we felt the same and it was a bit tough. A couple things that will help and made a difference:
      1. Ensure that the Max air Fan is completely closed. The. Purchase the Van Essentials window vent cover kit from CaTuned Off-Road. Primarily the vent cover dampens noise.
      2. Second and most effective is utilizing the Winnebago insulated thermo cover that snaps on separating the area between the cab and the coach. This will be the biggest change overall.
      If you have an opportunity to test drive one again, give the thermal blanket a try for sure.
      Other than that, there really isn’t much that can be done.
      In all honesty, we don’t use the thermal blanket when traveling and we don’t notice anything anymore. With the exception of the screen door rattling, which there are fixes for this.
      Let me know if you have any other questions for sure.

    Great videos, thanks for making them. Very informative. One question: how does the EKKO do on gravel & dirt roads? Does it shake and rattle like a tin can? Does dust seep in and cover everything? What about road clearance? Obviously no campervan or small Class C is an off-road vehicle but the prettiest places in North America are usually not along paved highways. What can you access safely in your EKKO?

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      George, thank you for taking time to watch our video and if you subscribed, we are very grateful as well. I’m glad you asked about the gravel and dirt roads. We have plenty of experience traveling through both. There is a washboard road that leads to the Palouse Falls in Washington State. It was pretty rough and with the VanCompass suspension “Bad Betty” our EKKO did really well. I’ve been in plenty of gravel just outside of HWY 26 leading off the Palouse Byway and equally well like anything it will track a little through the thicker gravel, but completely predictable. On the dryer dusty roads, we have not experienced any of the road debris’s making there way through and into the compartments or can. I believe the stock ground clearance is around 8.5”. Which does pretty well in most considerations. But we opted to do the VanCompass 2” list and upgrade with the rear Falken adjustable shocks. We have accessed plenty of roads that we’re typically suggesting 4x4, SUV, or at least more of an off-road capability. Logging roads, off-beach access areas, lots of snow packed roads and terrain up at the Mt Hood National Forest as well as some fun areas in Eastern Oregon. I especially feel very confident with the CaTuned Recovery bumper and 12K Warn Winch. I just recently got stuck in some soft wet sand and used my recovery traction boards and set the EKKO in the mud and rut mode and walked straight out of the hydraulic hood the sand and water locked us into. Hope this helps and thank you for watching. Safe travels.

    For that price, the airplane seats gotta go. They did change it in the 2024 model but they put a Mercedes diesel in it. Bad move. I want a vehicle where I can get gas anywhere. Most of the rural mom and pop gas stations don't have diesel. Plus the maintenance bill is ridiculously expensive.

      Hello, thanks for checking out our video. I completely agree with you on the dinette seats. While they are somewhat comfortable for short term use (a meal or working on the computer). Over a long trip, it’s not my favorite for sure as I think we get spoiled from the adjustable front seats. Fuel could be an issue as well, although it’s rare that I don’t see Diesel. Yes, maintenance is a big part of the decision in some respect, such as oil changes. The Ford is around $80.00 while the Mercedes can run $275.00-$400.00.
      From what I understand on the Mercedes, though it does have a proven track record for longevity.
      But again as you mentioned, there are a few things that one would have to consider over the course of ownership.
      Thank you for checking out our channel and sharing your thoughts.

      😂I’ll try it again, after a year that hasn’t worked. But, I’m hoping in this case I stand corrected. I’ll try tomorrow. I’ve continued to have the armrest make contact with the side of the seat. Do you have a Transit or EKKO with these seats?

      1. Seat moved all the way forward (base).
      2. Seat moved all the way back (base).
      3. Seat back and base of seat moved in multiple positions.
      4. Moving seat forward and backward while attempting to rotate the seat.
      After multiple attempts, the seat back (left side) continued to come in contact with the door panel/armrest.

      Thanks again for the suggestions and for watching. Take care.

    Don't you think Winnebago and Ford designed that seat to not be able to pivot with the door closed intentionally as a safety guard? You want to minimize the chances a seat pivots while driving.

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pat, thanks for checking out our video. I don’t believe it was a safeguard. The reason is that Mercedes (Sprinters) use the same/similar swivel base and there is no need to open the door. I think that when Ford built the Transit, the idea of a swivel seat was not a consideration given the original Ford design/focus was a simply a cargo/utility vehicle. So the door, armrest design was not a consideration. The seat swivel also has a lockout to prevent it from rotating.
      Good thought though.

      It’s a life style 😎. I think for us it’s a balance of ease of mobility in cities, small and large towns and the ability to blend into a common parking spot. If we’d opted for a larger class “c” it would be a bit more inconvenient for us (our style of travel). It wasn’t worth the trade off. Especially given the “airline carry on suitcase” size portable cassette sized easy to dump option. (Outhouse, gas stations, parks, etc). No need to wonder around hoping to find a dump station. Thanks for watching and the feedback.

    Morning, sorry you have one,,,,,,
    Too many bells & whistles that do basically nothing for me, the biggest down/con of the new generation of class C's is the 6.5gal blackwater holding tank, you know what I mean so I don't have to explain it.

    • @ekkonesters599
      @ekkonesters599  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Mike, thanks for watching our video. Lots of options on the market in respect to class C and B motorhomes for sure. Depending on how stealth you want to be, overall needs for travel and especially the size of a RV will often tailor the choice. In this case, we went from a true Class B Van, with very limited options to the Winnebago EKKO and love what it offers. Warmth, comfort, amenities, space and overall the ability to still maneuver through town and park in most standard parking lots/spaces with ease. Of course boon-docking with ease is a plus. The cassette we feel is preferable based on our travel needs. It’s a 5 gallon Thetford Cassette and we find the convenience of disposing/emptying at most public facilities, state parks, Porta potty, etc. a real convince and plus for us. But I can see how some prefer the idea of holding substantially more “waste”. I think Winnebagos was looking to capture a different demographics of travels that love the idea of a class B (size) yet seek creature comforts of what is typically offered in larger Class C motorhomes.
      Thanks for taking time to share and watch our video. Happy Travels ahead.
