I was wondering how well this fence works for deterring predators?

Looking at getting milk goats in the spring and wanted to know if you'd recommend this fence vs the 4x4 hardwire fence for a permanent pasture. We will need 600Ft of fence for a hill in the woods. Looking to get 2 females and 1 male

Ok but what about an energizer? I'll primarily be rotating them around our yard. So snagging on stuff in the woods won't be an ussue for us thankfully. So torn on whether to get solar or plug in. Sometimes my fence will be 73 yds away from the power source and that's a lot of additional cordage to purchase and drape across the yard. But I've heard that the solar won't necessarily keep your energizer charged enough to keep the goats from touching the fence. I really did not expect this decision to be this difficult but here I am.. lol
My goats jumped right through it.
Ive only been hesitant 4 strand cuz of the gap between the top strand and 3rd strand. Our goats are trained to electric. But have you found that gap some goats or kids try to get out at that point?

What do you think of the quality of the posts that comd on the unit? Issues or concerns with the plasric breaking down over time being exposed to temperature fluxuations and uv rays? I"ve been considering purchasing a couple of these quick fence units.
My land is in the steep mountains of NC and i have had success with sheparding the goats (wearing bells on their collars) morning and evening, but would like an option like portable fencing so I can leave them for a couple of hours in one place with one of the dogs to watch over them. Can"t get much work done with crops if I have to watch them all the time.
I have had one of these units for over 2 years now and have had zero issues with any of the plastic breaking because of sun or weather. Only issue I’ve had with the posts is the sharp metal stake at the bottom will sometimes bend when I’m trying to push it into really rocky soil.

In without getting out? Are you using your goats to clear your property?
I’ve been using one of these for 2 years. You have to make sure that the goats are trained to this style of fence before you use an electric fence alone. Yes, I’m using them to clear along the sides of a 1 mile road. The banks are too steep in most places to mow and it takes weeks to weedeat. So goats have been my favorite method so far. Hey Andrew, does the 2 version come complete? What else do I need to make it complete? How effective has it been for you?
It comes as a stand alone electric fence. You will need a fence charger to energize the fence though. I would recommend using at least a 2 joule charger. It works great as long as there is sufficient power going to the fence and as long as nothing has fallen on the fence.

Would this be ok for permanent fencing if you used multiple sections?
That’s the only fence I have for my goats. But I don’t live near a busy road. If you live somewhere with a busy road I would suggest using something more permanent. If you do decide to use this fence you would just need to check it more frequently because it can be easily pushed down by small tree branches that may fall on it. Thanks for watching!

I use a 2 joule solar charger. It’s one I put together myself. I have a video of a 1 joule charger I made but I don’t have the video of the one I use for my goats. I’ll have to make a video soon. Thanks for watching!

I recommend at least a 2 joule charger for your fence. Anything lower than that the goats won’t respect as much. I have a video on how you can make your own solar powered charger if you want to check that out.
@@AndrewMast Hey Andrew I just set one of these up with a six joule charger and the goats are still going under it. Even though it's on its last hole and same with the extra post. Any tips? Iv also wet the ground because it's very try out here.

Hi Andrew. I pretty much set up my electric fence from your OLD video, but I’m not having any luck because of the “training” issue that you mention here. 😫 Do you have a video on training the goats to the electric fence?? Mine just run through it. They get the snap but they don’t seem to understand where it’s coming from and they just run through. Other “training” videos just show them get shocked once or twice and then accepting it. I tested my fence and it seems to be delivering the maximum voltage, but even so, the little snap I feel doest seem to be enough for goats. Mine are even pretty small goats. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Adam, I’m sorry to hear that you are struggling to keep your goats in. I plan on making a video on that soon. It is something I have struggled with and occasionally I will have a rebellious goat that continually escapes.
Try to introduce the electric fence inside somewhere they cannot escape. Like a permanent fence or barn. A netting style fence can work as well but they can get out of those too. I have also had luck putting them on a leash close enough to the fence that they can touch it. Do that for a few days and then try again. If it’s a continuous problem it might just be the goat. Some goats will never learn. I recommend getting rid of those types of goats before they drive you crazy and make you hate having goats.
When you buy your goats try to buy them from someone who is doing something similar to what you want to do. Especially with the style of fencing.

@@AndrewMast I had no idea this would be so hard. The little dwarf goats just leap between the second and third wires. At first this confused me but I quickly realized that if they are in the air, there’s no grounding thus no shock. I’m sure we can eventually train them by forcing them the get shocked enough times that they just don’t go near it, but I’m not sure I have the heart for that. Our herd is small and the sizes are mixed. So disappointing 😭 And thank you very much for the suggestions but I’m afraid it’s too late. I’m already attached to “my girls.” Boy, if I could just go back in time. But I guess that’s the same with many things.

@@Kidd4ever we have a herd of Nigerian dwarf dairy goats and they all respect the electric fence after get zapped 2-3 times. We start when they are kids about 8-10 weeks old with training. We lead them out by the collar individually to the fence abs zap their nose and make sure they go away from it and not into and through it. I know that may sound mean but it beats them getting out and getting killed by a coyote. After 2-3 times I’ve never had one that doesn’t respect the electric fence! Knock on wood 🥹
How do you connect the electricity to it tho???

Does this work for baby goats as well?
Yes it does. They may get out by accident occasionally but as long as you keep the fence really hot they won’t want to mess with it. Thanks for watching!

My sheeps love to jump between the lines. I think the fence is BS.
Both sheep and goats have to be trained to the fence. After training it's also crucial to keep the fence extremely hot at all times.
Sheep's wool is a very good electrical insulator, so proper training at the correct time is especially important.
My sheep used to do the same thing until I got an energizer that puts out 4 joules. We have long wool sheep and it just now start snapping through wool. There are days I'm tempted to go hotter but worried if I do I might injure them
