I also think that due to them having cars that have the steering wheel on the correct side of the car, their cars can't be exported, se they just stay i the UK
Drive on the left side which makes export difficult, plus yearly inspection which older cars will most likely fail and left with couple hundred repair bill every year.
I live in France and second hand cars are very expensive here too, I always thought it’s down to the fact that in the UK people trade in their cars more often than in France so dealers have to be competitive with pricing in the UK. Most French will happily keep their car for 10+ years.
Also there is huge demand for second-hand cars with wheel on left side in east europe, where owning second hand cars just makes economic sense (cheap labour/low wages). I guess 2/3 of luxury cars registered there are imports :)
UK has a company car culture which in most European countries doesn't exists. You see hundred of thousands of cars come off their 3 year or so leases and onto the second hand car market in the UK, this does not happen in France or Spain. I think the UK market is just more buoyant with more cars being bought and sold overall. Take e.g. sales numbers for new BMWs or Mercedes behind their home country Germany, they sell the most in UK compared to any other EU country and by a very long mile too.
UK cars have no export market for most of their cars because of the right hand drive so there is no demand for old cars. Where specially here in the south of Europe there is a big market for exporting old rust free cars. I live in Spain and i rarely see many old luxury or "fun" cars they have all been exported to northern Europe.
@@thomasj5722 I don't think this is quite true. When I was in the UK I was in the car trade just like this chap in the videos and I worked with a number of traders who regularly exported prestige / luxury cars from the UK to Cyprus and some Asian countries where like the UK they are RHD, in fact some of them exclusively exported and didn't deal with the home market. Still probably not as big as an export market as say Germany has with Europe since more countries are LHD compared to RHD but in my 15 years here and speaking with a number of car dealers, cars are hardly ever exported from Spain to northern europe it's usually always the other way around with many coming from Germany Belgium etc to Spain. Whilst we might have drier weather here the Spanish just don't give two hoots about their cars and nearly all of them whilst not rusty are in terrible condition otherwise with mega miles therefore not 'export material' and the reason why you don't see fun luxury cars here (unless you are in certain locations like Marbella) is simply because the Spanish don't buy them, most can't afford them which is why you mainly see run of the mill cars. This is the reason why I bought my first second hand car from Germany the second I bought brand new in Spain and the third I imported second hand from the UK. As mentioned in my previous comment the reason why there are so many cars to choose from and low prices in the UK is to do with the huge number sold (huge fleet sales) compared to most countries in Europe including here in Spain. When you look at the sales numbers for prestige motors like BMW Mercedes Porsche you will find the UK to trounce all EU countries except Germany.
Great video! I find the spanish car market fascinating, like there were so many cars listed for prices that would encourage you to just spend a little more and get a brand new one, yet no one really seems to. Keep up the great work matt!
@@HighPeakAutos can't you buy a lhd drive car in the UK and then drive it down to Spain? The only issue would be that you may have to do a couple of trips back to the UK a year to avoid having to register the car in Spain. You could do a small series of videos on this subject!
bros voice is so calming i can watch/listen to his videos as i work, when i want to learn something about cars or for entertainment sometimes this is the last channel i watch before i sleep am from Kenya btw...am a big fan
What a great video, I have been in the UK for 3 weeks and missing home Marbella so that has been a real pick me up of what Spain is like. Always been a pain buying cars, you forgot to mention the transfer tax and the nightmare that goes with changing ownership.
I couldn't believe what I had to go through to buy my old Skoda, we had to go to an office in Alicante with proof of address and NIE, it was like getting married.
Having lived here in Spain for five years, I feel your pain! I still can't stop comparing the prices to what we would pay in the UK. I never realised how good we had it. As for the emission sticker you just take the car's log book into the post office, pay €5 and they give you the sticker. p.s I have one of those sad face looking Lynk & Co's It's an XC40 in different clothes. Good luck with the hunt, and getting home.
Mark , I've been here for 30 years and apart from the crazy prices I always get the feeling when I get into the inevitable "where you from and what do you work at" chit chat that sellers or workmen etc are always trying to size up how much of a ride they can take you for, had this with everything from boiler repair to car sales ...wonder if you feel the same ......
Spaniards are unrealistic with their car prices. Well, really with everything. There are Golf MKIII's going for more than 3k. Insane!!! They must think it's a classic. And not good examples either, most cars are utter garbage, high milage and possibly rolled back mileage. That is where Carvertical comes in handy. LOL
I saw one of those Lynk & Co's parked near my house in Alicante city. They look pretty up-market actually. I thought it was a tuning company version of something, at first. Nice interior and exyerior finishing touches. I had to Google it, as I hadn't heard of them. A virtual showroom, a virtual buying experience etc etc. Nice.
UK is really cheap - I follow a bunch of channels in several countries and am always shocked at how cheap your used cars are. Even here in the US, they are at least 2x to 3x more for the same car.....
omg you’ve literally said what i’ve always been thinking. Older cars age so much better in foreign countries and i feel like as a country, we’re so hung up on having the latest car that older cars age quicker where as in countries like spain i feel like people hang onto their cars longer and preserve them.
That was a very interesting video. My dad had an apartment in Spain, because we all used to go there, and used to hire cars, he bought a little Corsa from a local car hire company that we always used. In fact over the years he bought two Corsa's from the same place and they did us proud.
Went alright i think, just left the papers at the Gestoria and they handled all things, easy and didnt cost much, but yes, a lot more complicated then back in Norway thats for sure.
I think you're better off with either a convertible or better still, a sedan (or saloon car). Even a coupe will be fine, you won't need to spend a lot to get a convertible roof working or maintained. If you're not doing serious offroading or you're not in an area with bad roads, you really don't need a 4X4 SUV. It's just too complicated (even the more reliable ones from Toyota). I was going to say something about fuel economy, but since the car you're going for isn't going to be your daily driver, it's not a big deal.
Off the back of your videos, I bought a ML500 for £1,500 down the road in Gibraltar recently for similar reasons to what you're looking for. Glad to see you zeroing in on pretty much mine's exact spec - including the usual damage etc for the region...!
Thanks Matt, that was fun. I can't count the number of hours that I've done the same thing ( well not from Spain) going through the Autotrader here in Canada. Oh look a Bentley, oh how about a panamera, oh hang on, any aston martins around? Great fun. Cheers from Ottawa.
I've got an '09 CLK with 100k on the odometer. Look after it with good preventative maintenance - following your advice - and it runs great. Lovely getting the top down in summer. Would recommend. Only cost me £6500 (4 year ago) too.
As someone who lived in Spain for 17 years until moving to Germany, I can relate a lot with this video, everytime I looked up cars in the UK my jaw just dropped, the amount of reasonably modern high end cars that you can buy under 10k is insane, while most of those cars tend to still be above 20k in Spain.
BE WARNED .....It is better to buy a new car in Spain I know all about it, the first Merc I got was a 250D it was a cut and shut, the next one was a VW Passat and it was clocked, then I bought a new Passat and never looks back since......
You have to get a left hand drive Spanish registered car in the uk, to avoid import duty and other taxis. These type of cars are as expensive as the ones in spain or more.
BUY THAT WRANGLER MATT! Used one for a giggle when i worked for Chrysler/Jeep back in 200e - it was a demonstrator we had. Petrol manual 4.0, great fun even in London!
7:52 I am Spanish and I see that many people are confused: the environmental labels are for all of Spain and are: B (old diesel or gasoline), C (new gasoline and diesel with AdBlue), ECO (microhybridised, hybridised or LPG) and 0 (100% electric). Those are all and there are no more letters. Greetings from Valencia.
Cars are an arm and a leg here in Spain, We lived in Mallorca for 37 years before moving to la Cala De Mijas a couple of years ago, we just needed a change of scenery and liked the idea of not being limited to island life, expensive ferries and sky high flight prices in the summer etc, anyway cars were a lot cheaper there than here on the mainland, low mileage is quoted here 180,000km it’s a joke very rare to find service history to, in a nutshell very expensive to buy second hand.
They don't look after cars properly in spain like the UK... not serviced regularly... best driving one there from the UK and re-registering it as a Spanish car... Spanish car prices are expensive for what you can get in the uk
I did that in 2009 with a Peugeot 406 it cost more to re register it than it was worth, but still cheaper than hire cars, at 24 years old last year I had to let it go the air con didn’t work or the heater and it wasn’t worth fixing. I looked into bringing another car but now we’re not in the EU it’s more expensive and complicated. Doing what Matt did albeit at a more mundane level I gave up and bought a new Dacia duster, boring I know but 5 year guarantee , no ITV for 4 years it’s got all the bits and pieces on it. A Bentley convertible would have been nice but fund’s didn’t permit (just joking owning a car like that here would worry the life out of me).
I live in Portugal and the prices seem almost similar if a little cheaper believe it or not. Over here its crazy, because they finance over 10 years mostly everything holds its value eg my Honda PCX was €3300 new, 4 years later with 27k kms I sold it for €2500 madness! Also every car here is advertised as having full extras😂 often the most basic spec has this term applied. Another thing is the number of owners is never mentioned. Paintwork or bodywork is so cheap here most cars have been tidied up at a small cost. Another thing I notice is they can have high specs like often having xenons on old cars etc but the weird one is almost all big executive cars are manual. Ive lost count of the amount of 730d 740d 530d are all manual. The tax on anything over 2 litres here is very high so those types of cars are rarer but still can be found, also mad models like 745d that you don’t get in the UK are a nice spot.
If it’s not too difficult to import a UK car into Spain, I suggest you bring one of the cars you like (with ice cold AC) from your lot and keep it in Spain….
Same here in Portugal , where prices are way above those in the UK. Mileage is also usually much higher , although most cars are looked after by proud owners. We are ver reg. and mileage conscious back home and cars look much more of a bargain. Colleagues are usually amazed when , like you, I take them on a tour of Autotrader.
Might have more luck in Portugal if you don't mind the road trip. Same climate and seem like better deals to be had. Had a quick look and saw a cool 1996 Chrysler Stratus 2.5 V6 5,000 EUR and a bunch of interesting cars (including Range Rovers...)
About environmental stickers, this comment might help you. There are 4 stickers, '0' 'ECO' 'C' 'B', from ''less pulluting to more''. 0 = BEV or PHE with more than 50 km on electric ECO = the rest of PHEV, HEV, or CNG conversions of petrol engines. C = Diesels from 2015 and petrol from 2006 B = diesels from 2006 and petrol from 2001
5:39 For reference, “retrovisores eléctricos plegables” is “electric folding mirrors”. The word for car mirrors (retrovisor) is different from the generic word for mirror in Spanish (espejo) because it describes what they’re for - looking behind you. Also, the bit in the first pic for that E46 would translate more like “what are you waiting for?”
1:40 ~ Looking forward to next week's video when Matt goes over that Range rover he bought. The Golf cart gets my vote. (Most reliable "Golf" ever made.) But won't be surprised to hear that Jeep Wrangler is parked in your driveway, Matt. When the choices are terrible, might as well get what you want.
Hi Matt when I did what you looking at fed up of cost of hire cars, I bought an ex rental. Risky but got a Mitsubishi colt 5 door with 100k kilometres on. Body and underneath was as new. 1100cc 3 cylinder. Had to have 2 new wheel bearings and tyres. Had it 10 years. Paid 3000euros. Took a risk and paid off. Never not started. Or failed mot equivalent. Been to Portugal/ Morocco and France in it.
I have a "holiday" car in Spain too and their idea of service history is non existent!! They just tell you "yes mate, always serviced!" All websites and photos are a joke! Ended up getting a 2006 Dodge Caliber for 3500E as a beach car and it is HORRIBLE! Completely tidy inside and out but plastic EVERYWHERE. However, it had proper FULL service history and a VW diesel 2.0 TDI with manual gearbox... hopefully, it will get me to the beach for a few more summers. Love the channel!!
Hi Matt, I live in Spain, Tenerife to be exact. The new sticker to indicate what environment emissions the vehicle uses is bought at the post office, we were told the sticker must be displayed by the 4th of June , so far I've only seen one car displaying the sticker and that is my partner. I haven't even seen a police car displaying one. The lady in the post office said later this year there will be areas mostly towns or city''s where certain cars won't be allowed only EV's, it's another scam. a few weeks ago I was in the UK and my partner came over to go to my uncle's funeral he was flying to Manchester and had a ticket for the Monday he was told in the airport there is a delay until 12:30am in the end his flight was 9:00am the Tuesday morning and it was due to French air control on strike, strange because I don't ever remember flying over France from here it's normally over the coast of Portugal and just scraping past the north of Spain, he should have asked the pilot to just drive round France. Lol. I can't believe the second hand car price difference between the UK and Spain, if only the Spanish looked after their cars thanks for a great video and all the best... P.s we pasted your High peak Autos in Bramley driving from Sheffield to Stockport, it was a Saturday afternoon and you were closed or I would have called in to say hello..
you don't have to fly over France, but you might fly into their airspace which would be affected. Also, maybe the flight was delayed because the flight was coming from Belgium, which was delayed arriving before flying onto the UK. Most low cost airlines do not do just the back and forth to the same country/airport, it could go London to Milan, Milan to Budapest, Budapest to Brussels, and Brussels to Tenerife all in one day.
Moved over to Spain in 2019 and bought a 2011 Seat leon copa 1.2 for 8500 euros. Within 3 days you wouldn't believe the amount of dings and scrapes it collected. They just don't care which is why they hang onto cars until they fall apart. The only saving grace is they depreciate at a slower rate so its all relative.
The prices here in Spain are crazy. However, the cost of bringing a UK car here and registering it, with all of the charges and post Brexit duties are very prohibitive. Best bite the bullet and buy one already in Spain.
Well Matt! I live and work in Northern Spain, and have surrended to the stupid prices here! On the flip side you do get a higher price come px time! The emission sticker is only 5 euros, having just had a new windscreen and replaced the wrecked sticker. All good fun, take care!
We bought a flat this winter in Sanlucar de Barrameda. Next week I'm driving our old Jaguar XJ down there. I hope it fits in the underground parking; at best it going to be really tight.
The prices are mad over there, my runaround is a 17 year old Skoda Fabia which I paid 2400 euros for, you wouldn't see it on the road in Stockport or anywhere else in the UK, it was great pre brexit when you could drive around forever in a UK registered car.
Hey Matt, your resident Partridge spotter chiming in: @26:46 😁 Shortly before that I was thinking this is literally a man having some sort of episode going repeatedly from initial excitement to total dismissal 😁 You're right about 'touchy' parking in Malaga Province!
Good chance of a small series. Buy left hand drive car in uk. Show all the things you have to do to import it to spain. Then the road trip driving it across.
The CLK & ML V6's & V8 from 2006-10 have the problem with the balancer shaft or idler on V8s so you'd be better off going for the MK1 or a pre-facelift CLK. The 4.5 v8 Cayenne suffers from coolant system leaks, normally in the V which can be expensive. Honestly thought he CLK430 and the Wrangler were the best two on the list, can't see either of them depreciating too much.
I see what you mean about older cars looking better abroad, I think we’re just used to seeing more of them so they don’t stand out but in the UK so many of the cars we see are brand new
Hi Matt enjoy all your video's, I spend half the year in Greece. Just gone through looking for a different car and it the same silly price's, and ridiculous mileage, so decided to keep my panda, better the devil you know. Keep up the good work.
Also, pretty much all Spanish cars are advertised as “in perfect condition” (Or similar) even if you can see dents and scratches all over it, cracked tires, ripped seats etc. You’d also be lucky to get any service history with the car.
Thanks again, lucky your in Spain and not pissing down UK...: i bought surfshark a few months ago with your discount...it works amazing and will be using it in Alicante in a few weeks on holiday..so cheers.....PS: Do you think the Spanish who want to buy property in the uk watch a programme called 'A Place In the Pissing Rain' ...lol...best wishes from rainy and Rod Stewart playing here tonight at the Castle Edinburgh....🤣🤣👍👍
Hey Matt. As a local resident (Costa del Sol) I will explain the stickers story for you. They are introduced all over Spain and they go like this... The best one to have according to this environmental satire is 0 (zero): it is for EVs of various types, including plugin hybrids if they have at least 40kms EV mode capacity. Next level is called ECO: all hybrids apart from the ones mentioned before plus new and newish cars with LPG or GNC. Then there is C: Euro 6 diesel (as of 2014) and Euro 4,5,6 petrol cars (as of 2006). Last one is B: petrol cars from 2001 and newer (Euro 3) and diesels from 2006 and newer (Euro 4, 5). All other cars (petrol older than 2001 and diesel older than 2006) fall into the A category, which is in fact the worst in this ranking and they already have restricted access to some metropolitan areas (Zonas de Bajas Emisiones).
Take your R129 down there. Its special enough to enjoy when you get there but not pricey enough to have to worry about when it's sat. You'll keep the miles off and it won't depreciate as it's sat either.
I'm as mad as you are! I live in Malta, spend time in the UK and have family in Portugal. I have an 01 Lexus LS430 and a 97 Triumph Trident 900 in the UK, a 16 Toyota Avensis and an 02 Yamaha Fazer 1000 (and a new Chineseum 125 scooter) in Malta and a 98 VW Polo (very old, bought new by my brother with over 800K km now...) in Portugal. All get used regularly - mad we may be but it is fun! Best of luck getting back to the UK......
Saab 93 soft top every time. The world's most comfortable seats, classic looks and well built. Why consider anything else. It's the obvious choice for someone living in mellor/Marple Bridge 😮
This is depressing. I'm portuguese and I find spanish car prices shockingly cheap, so there's that. I just bought my gf a 7 year old Seat Mii with 130k Km for 6.5k€ and I can tell you it was a great deal as those go for 9k€...
FYI having imported and sold over 40 x 955's here in New Zealand. First Gen 955 are starting to go up in price in the US. Porsche Cayenne 955 is the better engine 957 direct injection has carbon valve issues. Turbo 955 no bore scoring issues. air suspension is reliable as its incased, not like the range rover system. Each time you get back to Spain you will look forward to driving your Pepper 955 ...PS they are fantastic off road but tell to many people
Just down the road from you in San Pedro de Alcantra where we have an apt. I sourced a Spanish car on Ebay in the UK. Its a grey Discovery Sport with 7 seats...albeit the back is tight. It belonged to a Boat Captain who was returning to the Uk. It had 23000 kms and i got it at Uk price. Low mileage because it spent most of its time parked up and, because he is a boatist, it was kept immaculately. 4 years on its got 36k on but its probably worth similar money over here...so a bargain. You are right about prices being linked to condition and usage rather than year...the lack of year on the reg plate is the reason there. We park it in parking spaces, not the road due to the touchy feely parking of the locals that you mention. Keep it at the airport...ExPats Parking look after it and are there so we walk off the plane and are on the road 15 mins later. I cannot describe the difference it makes to the journey. Buy so.ething in the UK Matt and take it down there. You wont regelret it.
Hola Matt, So about the stickers, NO it's not like you say. There are only a few. If you don't have the environmental sticker (which can happen) you can't run your car under certain circumstances. BUT it does not go from A to F, it starts (lowest is) at B, then C, then ECO and then 0. Now, cars are expensive in Spain. But Barcelona and Madrid being more dense populated have higher prices (more demand means higher price). Being in Malaga you could buy a Gibraltar car at UK price? not sure. But the car would have UK plates and UK wheeldrive placed (on the passenger's side xD) and you could even bring it maybe back to the UK if needed. Not sure about Gibraltar-UK though. Prices here s4ck, specially in the last years as most of us buy 2nd hand cars instead of new ones (they are nuts expensive) so the 2nd hand cars prices came up a lot (i don't know maybe 50%?). YEP ITV is the MOT and it depends on how old is your car you'll need to pass it under certain time. A car 10 years old needs to pass it once a year. New cars are exempt to it for the first 4 years, and if it's 4 to 9 years old it has to pass it every 2 years. Weird but.... Uhm I'd say being in Malaga to check a car that has not been outside, due to the very strong sun they have there and the salitre (sea salt) and humidity, if possible. Ah yes! Last thing, yes we use Autoscout but usually is quite pricey there, you can check also coches.net and we are using now a lot an app and website named Wallapop. You should consider those places too. Wallapop being a 2nd hand market place allow you to throw stupidly silly offers to sellers who, logicaly, get mad at your offer. But you can do it. If the seller is desperate, well... it might work. You buy me a beer to thank me if it works when in BCN. (but I see now the price of a Yeti you have on a video, Yeti's cost 2-3 times more than in UK, and so on). Okay, that's all i needed to share. Enjoy the Malaga Sun and it's 40ish degrees xDD
Funnily enough, I've recently been trying to choose a car for my (imaginary) Spanish holiday home. I decided on a Jeep TJ, an SLK AMG55, or maybe a beach buggy.
One last idea, why don't you Go for a Boxter? I mean they aren't that expensive, engine is "big" enough for me and it's cabrio. BMWs here have always been stupidly expensive due to being considered a high status cars. You can also look for maybe some Audi Cabriolet like the 80 was it? Or similar if exists. I think some of those had big 5 cylinder engines? Not sure. As a silly idea.
Environmental stickers are (from worst to best): - A (no sticker) - B (yellow) - C (green) - Eco (green/blue) - 0 (blue) Stickers are assigned based on the Euro regulations complied, or on the type of fuel for Eco and Zero: petrol engines from 2000 to 2006 and diesel from 2006 to 2014 get the B, newer get the C, hybrid/mild hybrid/alternative fuels get Eco and electric/plug-in hybrids with more than 40km of range get the 0 Large cities like Madrid and Barcelona currently apply restrictions based on your sticker, and more cities will activate them in the next years
I pushed the like button at the saab convertible and I would have pushed it again when the w123 turned up. The only problem with very old cars is the road safety
Ha ha I did an almost identical car search when I was over a couple of weeks ago - start off looking at wranglers & range rovers & end up looking at hummers & Fj's
Fascinating watch this one, love to see your thought processes compared to mine. Your insider knowledge is very interesting to hear about cars I’d think “ooh that’s cool” about.
I live in Germany and have looked a few times at LHD cars in the U.K. with the idea of reimporting. Even with the 20% import tax it can make financial sense.
@@HighPeakAutos agreed. I’ve just had a look and there are a few well priced cars at the moment. There is a nice looking S class and a panamera. There are also some Spanish registered cars too. Might be a content idea to run through the LHD cars for sale in the U.K. as there are some interesting imports listed. Cheers
I've just had to get an environmental sticker for my car when I drive to Germany for the Euros, that German sticker is also valid is Spain which is odd.
As someone living in the UK and trying to buy a car in Portugal... I´m not used to Portuguese car prices any more!! Anything decent is at least 5000EUR...
Prices seem to be similar in Spain as here in Sweden. Always wondered why the depreciation of cars is so much more in the UK.
from what I heard its because servicing the cars costs more.
I also think that due to them having cars that have the steering wheel on the correct side of the car, their cars can't be exported, se they just stay i the UK
Drive on the left side which makes export difficult, plus yearly inspection which older cars will most likely fail and left with couple hundred repair bill every year.
Yeah there’s no export market in the UK so once the demand drops, so do the prices
it's because they are the only right hand drive country so the used market is very isolated and oversaturated.
I live in France and second hand cars are very expensive here too, I always thought it’s down to the fact that in the UK people trade in their cars more often than in France so dealers have to be competitive with pricing in the UK. Most French will happily keep their car for 10+ years.
Yeah, I tried to a used car in France and it was so expensive that a new car wasn't much more.
I love the translations - the soft top Audie - 'It drives without problems' Imagine the response you would get from telling someone in the UK that!
Aha yes I know
People don't realize how expensive cars in other countries can be. I have a friend in France who bought a 2007 Porsche 911 base model for around 65k
That’s right. Cars are stupidly cheap in the uk
in Finland you can get 200k km driven 911 for 60k 🤔
@@HighPeakAutos can't you buy a lhd drive car in the UK and then drive it down to Spain? The only issue would be that you may have to do a couple of trips back to the UK a year to avoid having to register the car in Spain. You could do a small series of videos on this subject!

LOL
@@rory5229 I know 100% what you mean my friend. So I still have so much more to look forward to then
I saw one of those Lynk & Co's parked near my house in Alicante city.
They look pretty up-market actually. I thought it was a tuning company version of something, at first. Nice interior and exyerior finishing touches.
I had to Google it, as I hadn't heard of them. A virtual showroom, a virtual buying experience etc etc.
Nice.
I’m genuinely shocked at the prices in Spain. I thought the UK was expensive but I’ll never complain about spending my money here again 😂
UK is country with cheapest cars
UK is really cheap - I follow a bunch of channels in several countries and am always shocked at how cheap your used cars are. Even here in the US, they are at least 2x to 3x more for the same car.....
Try Australia 😢
try Turkey 😂
@ I meant here in Europe :D But yeah, Turkey is different level :D
omg you’ve literally said what i’ve always been thinking. Older cars age so much better in foreign countries and i feel like as a country, we’re so hung up on having the latest car that older cars age quicker where as in countries like spain i feel like people hang onto their cars longer and preserve them.
They certainly hold on to them longer but not so sure about preserving them. most are in very poor condition. At least they don't rust here LOL.
That’s a bargain. I would’ve bought that
But you can't drive GBZ car here in Spain. Unless you go via import and registration procedures.
@@robertasx of course you can! Just like you can drive a car with a plate from any other country.

I like this style of video going car shopping. I’d love to see more of this on the channel! :)
I love the way you get more "enthusiastica" as the beer slips down. Been there, got the T 👍😀🤣

Thanks, will do!
I love how your price ceiling edges up as you go on. From ‘18k is too expensive’ to ‘39k…. Looks reasonable’…😂
Hahah always
The Phaeton is a fantastic car (as long as nothing breaks😬 and if it has been serviced in time). Well, we can dream as much as we want, can’t we?
they have awful resale values
@@robloxfan4271 They are expensive in every conceivable way (yet cool imo)
I assure you a lot of things will break on a Phaeton.

Thanks Matt for the great insight to Spain. Like your number plate in the office. Prices here in OZ are high for new but older cars are reasonable.
You could always look for a cheap LHD car in UK and do a video of the road trip over. Great video
That would rather defeat the object of the exercise which was to buy a rot-free Spanish car, don't you think?
LHD cars are no longer cheap in the UK
he still would have to pay import fees
You have to get a left hand drive Spanish registered car in the uk, to avoid import duty and other taxis.
These type of cars are as expensive as the ones in spain or more.
Is importing from Japan the answer here? Affordable, rust free and well maintained cars. Some are left hand drive.
Prices in the Netherlands are on this level too. UK buyers are lucky. Just saw a 2007 Aygo with 370K offered for 3,000 Euro. Madhouse!
The Netherlands is the worst! Same with new car prices (and the BPM tax)
Spanish house tour? Maybe for the property channel? 👀
I don’t know what I enjoy most about these videos, the content or the Alan Partridge quotes! 😂
0 = BEV or PHE with more than 50 km on electric
ECO = the rest of PHEV, HEV, or CNG conversions of petrol engines.
C = Diesels from 2015 and petrol from 2006
B = diesels from 2006 and petrol from 2001

Ah ok. Thanks
Get the DB9 you'd look good in one of those in Spain,I've just orded the new DB12 it will make me look posh until I open my mouth as I'm from Barnsley
thanks for this - I'm in north Spain and it seems better value to buy new - but as you say, less rust.
Loved the video love when you search for cars online from other countries
I could watch these all day… loving all of the AP references too 😂😂😂

Good chance of a small series. Buy left hand drive car in uk. Show all the things you have to do to import it to spain. Then the road trip driving it across.
its absolutely nothing like what I'm looking for...but....interesting!!! True words of wisdom indeed, Matt!!
I see what you mean about older cars looking better abroad, I think we’re just used to seeing more of them so they don’t stand out but in the UK so many of the cars we see are brand new
We have a old vitara sort top in spain, no electics to drain the battery, can be left for months on end and always starts!
Looks like the dog has just relieved itself on the back wheel of the explorer!!😂
The Lynk&Co is a subscription based car. You can get it for 550 Eur/month and give it back anytime you want, pretty interesting business model.

Prices in Spain are on par with the US for similar vehicles. The UK is the outlier. I envy you guys
Hola Matt,
So about the stickers, NO it's not like you say.

Great to get a bit of learn Spanish language for car enthusiasts thrown in too! You’re a good teacher.
Thanks! 😃
Environmental stickers are (from worst to best):
- A (no sticker)
- B (yellow)
- C (green)
- Eco (green/blue)
- 0 (blue)
Stickers are assigned based on the Euro regulations complied, or on the type of fuel for Eco and Zero: petrol engines from 2000 to 2006 and diesel from 2006 to 2014 get the B, newer get the C, hybrid/mild hybrid/alternative fuels get Eco and electric/plug-in hybrids with more than 40km of range get the 0
Large cities like Madrid and Barcelona currently apply restrictions based on your sticker, and more cities will activate them in the next years
