Oh my God! That's my train! I spent almost 3 minutes watching this thinking "man this guy has all the same cars as me!" then realized it was at our club and actually my train. Thanks for the great video I had no idea you were doing this. Awesome job and I am humbled and proud. Thank you!

Cheers for the video content! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Januke Henatalie Formula (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a good one off product for dominating DCC model railroads without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my good mate called Gray finally got ama

Absolutely wonderful! Of course I’m biased, having hired out on Southern in 1979! The transfer caboose on this train is a rarely modeled piece of equipment, and this one is spot on, with the huge amount of railings (reminds me of Disney World!)! The only thing that did make me cringe was the number of times that the train was coming toward the camera by a signal that displayed a “clear” aspect AGAINST the approaching movement! I first noticed it in the thumbnail pic. KUDOS to all involved with this layout! SOUTHERN SERVES THE SOUTH!

Really nice to see some more realistic track. It's either extremely time consuming to hand lay track or you spend more than a dollar a foot to buy the pre- made top of the line flex track with the actual scale spikes and tie plates cast in the ties. I know that's why most modelers end up buying the inexpensive track. Nice to see you went the extra mile.

Very nice layout. Great detail!!! What size is it.
I am a retired engineer / instructor engineer, off of the UP out of New Orleans. FYI: “IF” the signal system on the layout is a working ABS (Automatic Block Signals) system the signal starting @ 6:19 is displaying a clear (Green) over red. It should be a double red, (red over red) with those engines setting on both sides of the signal. That signal is labeled CP 13, which stands for Control Point, and makes it a positive signal vs an intermediate signal. For a train to travel past that signal on a real railroad, after stopping short of the signal, if it was displaying a red over red, requires permission from the dispatcher, or in some cases an operator. Permission could be verbal, written, or visual, (signal lined up by the dispatcher / operator). With the three engines sitting on both sides of the signal, even the dispatcher could not line it up to get a proceed signal, which would be either a green or yellow over the bottom red. “IF” it is not a working system then it does not make any difference. They are for looks vs operations. I have had the pleasure of operating on a couple HO gauge layouts that did have an operation ABS system. Part of one of the layouts was CTC (Centralized Traffic Control) over ABS with the other part being mostly ABS with train orders, for moving the trains. It also had a branch line that was dark territory, (no signals except for a draw bridge, which only controlled movements over the draw bridge.).
In CTC territory on a real RR the dispatcher controls the movement of trains on to, off of, and on the main line or passing tracks. The dispatcher or operator can usually control the switches for the siding to meet and pass trains. Usually the switches to enter or leave the main line. Once switches are lined for the desired route the signals can be line for that movement. On most CTC territories the signal is the authority to enter the main line or passing track. There are CTC rules that govern how to enter or leave the main line or passing tracks if the dispatcher can not line the switches or signals.

Very nice, I noticed you didn’t always follow the Southern Railroad’s practice of running their locomotives “long hood forward” (except the green Alco unit) Any particular reason for not following prototype practice?

  • @markredman9173

    Very nice set.
But, I noticed a potential disaster. The CAT on the flatbed car does not appear to secured with chains.
Also - a general point - has nothing to do with this set in particular. I think the engine manufacturers could do a much better job simulating engine sound. The modern day digital tech available should be able to produce an exact replica of sound. An example is the low speed sound of an actual engine has that deep bass.
The horns and whistles sound great.
The engine and track sounds need improvement.

The front "green" unit is an atlas and by far the best unit. The other 2 are Athearn ready to runs that unfortunately have given me nothing but trouble. All have soundtraxx tsunami 2 decoder and sugar cube speakers.

Very nice layout... What I could see of it... As for the train... It's a real nice train also BUT I guess there is only one as we see 10 minutes of the SAME train over and over and over again... Fire up one of the other ones, just for a change... Just sayin..
