I’ve always loved this song and Marilyn. I had a very bad addiction to pain pills prescribed by my doctor after a severe accident…an addiction that brought me so close to dying. To be honest, there’s no explanation why I didn’t die on several occasions during the six years I was addicted. My mom had told me she had already planned to play this at my funeral, because she was certain I wouldn’t survive. I’ve been sober for 12 years now. I’m so thankful I was given a chance at life again, unlike so many others that lose the battle.
I was obsessed with Elton from the age of 6, and this was the first time I saw him with my mum and late dad.. December 86 in Sydney... I was 10 years of age and my mum always told the story that i just stood there with my mouth wide open the whole show in amazement - some 40 concerts later and nothing has changed.
There’s something about this performance, there’s something in his spirit. It’s like he was singing away his pain … he wasn’t just giving a goodbye , he was praying .

And if the sound of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra with "loneliness was hard ..." swells - just beautiful! This performance still touches me today since I heard it many years ago on a Transatlantic Night Flight.

When I was in the car I heard this song come on right after I turned the music on. I didn’t realize how special this song and every moment I have with my dog, my friends, and most of all my family members. Buster (my dog) went out peacefully by our sides and he will always be remembered.

This song now holds a special place in my heart because my family and I had to put down our dog and it all happens so fast. When I was in the car I heard this song come on right after I turned the music on. I didn’t realize how special this song and every moment I have with my dog, my friends, and most of all my family members. Buster (my dog) went out peacefully by our sides and he will always be remembered.
