@@wcjohnson1000 He is a huge talent! I also love the video he and George Michael did singing together on "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me". I didn't realize just how supremely talented GeorgeMichaels was till I saw that video.
I’ve always loved this song and Marilyn. I had a very bad addiction to pain pills prescribed by my doctor after a severe accident…an addiction that brought me so close to dying. To be honest, there’s no explanation why I didn’t die on several occasions during the six years I was addicted. My mom had told me she had already planned to play this at my funeral, because she was certain I wouldn’t survive. I’ve been sober for 12 years now. I’m so thankful I was given a chance at life again, unlike so many others that lose the battle.
I was obsessed with Elton from the age of 6, and this was the first time I saw him with my mum and late dad.. December 86 in Sydney... I was 10 years of age and my mum always told the story that i just stood there with my mouth wide open the whole show in amazement - some 40 concerts later and nothing has changed.
There’s something about this performance, there’s something in his spirit. It’s like he was singing away his pain … he wasn’t just giving a goodbye , he was praying .

This is the version my vocal teacher introduced us to. Its beautiful. The princess Diana version is also nice. However this will always be my favourite. This song to me screams genuine appreciation for a person as a person and not all of the labels we gave her...
See that? A tear in his eye toward the end. That's how powerful this song is. That's how powerful of a songwriter and performer Sir Elton is. He wrote about someone he never knew from a different country. Amazing. Thank you Sir Elton John for giving us this masterpiece.
Actually the writing credit is to both of them. I think there was more than a little autobiographical emotion in this song.. Elton had lead a similar life having to change his name, his appearance, and hide his sexuality to achieve fame. So many love Elton John without giving a second thought to Reginald Dwight.

Absolutely. Hands down the best version of this song. No comparison in my opinion. Much more intense and emotional than the studio version. Great piano work by Elton too.
I feel his live performance Inside the Abbey for the Funeral of the Princess of Wales was the best live version. Even better than the single he released. It was the biggest selling single on 1997 as well as all time, yet he says he didn't keep a single penny from the sales

im quite young and i myself think Elton is probably the best musician that i know of and he has this certain character on stage but of course Bernie is great too as he wrote most of Elton's lyrics
I don't think there's a better performance than this 1986 live version in Australia. Simply amazing and extremely emotional. And if the sound of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra with "loneliness was hard ..." swells - just beautiful! This performance still touches me today since I heard it many years ago on a Transatlantic Night Flight.

I said this about a live performance of “These Dreams” by Heart and I’ll say it again here this is by far better than the studio version. This song now holds a special place in my heart because my family and I had to put down our dog and it all happens so fast. When I was in the car I heard this song come on right after I turned the music on. I didn’t realize how special this song and every moment I have with my dog, my friends, and most of all my family members. Buster (my dog) went out peacefully by our sides and he will always be remembered.
The 1987 live version gave this song new life, especially in America where it had not been issued as a single. From that point on, it became a regular selection at his concerts, often played as part of the encore. It also kept Elton on the charts while he was recovering from throat surgery and battling drug abuse. Thanks to "Candle In The Wind," he kept alive his streak of 31 consecutive years with at least one song on the Hot 100.
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
He said when he rewrote "Candle In The Wind," to "Goodbye Englands Rose" for Diana, that he only performed Diana-version that one time! And everytime I hear "Goodbye.." I still crying, coz she was a true Legend.
My grandmother passed away this past Sunday, and since then, I get songs in my head that don't normally pop up. This was a major earworm ever since I woke up this morning.
When I’m in the mood for CITW, I listen to this version only. 🤷♀️🙋🏻♀️😆It’s more sentimental and resounding. His raspy voice and the symphony in the back- absolutely perfect! 😍
Love how Elton kicks up the emotions once he realizes the candles get lit. Sure he prob would have sung it that way anyway but I like to think he got a boost from the crowd cheering and just feeling the moment
yes.. I noticed that too. powerful powerful performance. Elton could tell he had captured something special when the crowd popped mid song.. the look on Elton's face as he looked here and there. I burst into tears every time I watch it.

A moment of beauty. All is working together here to produce such special time. The sound, the moment, the talent, the clarity, etc. We don't hear noise here but a melody that is rich and beautiful. It is extremely rare that a live version of a song is better than one that was produced in a studio.

You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid

@@kalumprasannaHW Your candle burned out long before your legend *ever* did. :)
70s 80 s and 90s were the best.
The only Sir in the music world. I loved his voice & the style from the very 1st day to this date.
Amazing showman in concert. Saw him at the Hollywood Bowl in the 80's. Awesome experience.
Let’s not forget Bernie Taupin, lyricist extraordinaire.
One of the greatest songs ever made, I just bought the goodbye yellow brick road vinyl original from 1973 and it has this on it!!
The absolute best version of
This rendition is a masterpiece.
I mastered a spinning back kick in like 3rd grade
It doesn’t get better than that 50 years later and the song still chokes me up !
actullly it gets 5000 times better than just a candle in the wind
Love that 1 too
@@bobkindula6263 nice
my all time favorite version of this song. recorded live in concert, Sydney Opera House. Elton John is a timeless treasure.
I always wondered why the audience suddenly bursts out cheering during the second verse on this version. Adds another element to this performance
This is ABSOLUTELY the best live version of this song. Eltons vocals are superb !
Who's listening in 2020..!!!!??? He is immortal.

This is a song that words can't express what it comes with, this song is something else i must say, Elton John you are one of the best.
Great Song !!
One of Elton’s Best Songs and One of My Favorites!
Thanks so much ❤️
I'm a new generation teen and I have to say this song is Amazing :')
His voice is amazing
Super great tribute to legendary beauty Ms. Monroe! so sad she lived a troubled life.
I was in this concert,around 1986.that night,elton was in a different level.
What's 5,000 times better than Candle in the Wind?
"This song is titled 5,000 candles in the wind"

The 1987 live version gave this song new life, especially in America where it had not been issued as a single. From that point on, it became a regular selection at his concerts, often played as part of the encore. It also kept Elton on the charts while he was recovering from throat surgery and battling drug abuse. Thanks to "Candle In The Wind," he kept alive his streak of 31 consecutive years with at least one song on the Hot 100.
Your candle burnt out before your legend ever did. Perfect sir elton
The greatest singer of all time.
Absolutely and your smile is priceless
❤️💖🙏🏽💐
@@jewelryboxballerina Still hurts almost a year later, but I'm still here and still loving this song.
Sir Elton will always stand as one of the greatest
Performers ever.
When I’m in the mood for CITW, I listen to this version only. 🤷♀️🙋🏻♀️😆It’s more sentimental and resounding. His raspy voice and the symphony in the back- absolutely perfect! 😍
Same!
@@peejay4606 would have been something to have been in that crowd. Thanks for reminding me of this comment so I can listen/watch this again.
wow.. I just noticed the glances Elton gave the massive audience when they popped a wave of cheers during toughest role verse. powerful..

Never will there be such a song as this . I happy that I have heard it so many times . There really is a God
I think of my best friend who died on Valentine’s Day: Rest In Peace, Markie Lynn! June 21, 1992 to February 14, 2021 ❤️❤️😢😢

Sorry for your loss! So young but his or her life served a purpose!!🙏🙏🙏

One of my most favorite songs of all time.
Every time i listen to Elton John sing this song in this specific video...I get chills every single time.
A moment of beauty. All is working together here to produce such special time. The sound, the moment, the talent, the clarity, etc. We don't hear noise here but a melody that is rich and beautiful. I dedicate this video to all who love Jesus. His life was also like a candle in the wind. Short but full of beauty and truth. No more words!. An applause to Elton John.
This is the very very best version of this song! The affects and echoey sound is just amazing!
Gotta be something special to see Elton John performing live.
