I know! I was viewing their art on pixiv and fiona and cake were with an older simon so i though that they drew the fanart recently but no it was from 2022!
This song was the theme song to my elementary school's morning announcements. So I was surprised to hear it in Adventure Time, never having realized it wasn't just a song made for the school (which by then I was in middle school).
I discovered it from the first time I watched Adventure Time, and I was so happy when it turned out to be an actual song instead of a short snippet of what could've been like so many other cartoon songs
I'm nearly two years late to this, but what a wonderful animation. Great work! My favorite parts are the quick cuts showing Simon and Marcy in their young then older versions and when older Finn puts his arm around Simon, that was very sweet.
oh they mentioned how he met betty in the main series of adventure time, think this also came out after distant lands so they got a bit of a sneak peak of the future life, I can tell from the way finn looks in this.
Ice King and Simon are my favorite Adventure Time characters. They really embody the phrase "Today might suck, but tomorrow could be better" through all the trials and tribulations they go through, they keep pushing on to a genuinely better tomorrow. Ice King may have required help from Marcy, Finn, Jake and PB teaching him how he should act around people, but he gets genuine relationships and friendships with all sorts of people that mean so much not just to IK but to those people who choose to be friends with him, not to say anything about the entire tragedy that is Simon's character.
One thing I really like about this animatic is twofold; first, its honestly a triumphant reprise of the use of the Cheers theme in Adventure Time. When it was used in 'Simon and Marcy', it's ultimately tragic and wistful. It's Simon singing a song to remind him of a show he used to like, desperately holding onto the last shreds of his identity and the last part of the song being a cruel reminder that everything there will be forgotten, with the way he says it implying that he KNOWS he's forgetting his own name. But here, with the use of emphasizing early seasons Ice King and gradually trasitioning to the more friendly and loving relationships he had with the rest of the cast, and ultimately switching completely to Simon Petrikov, it's the opposite. Instead of a man forgetting himself and knowing it, its that same man being pulled away from the madness of the crown and into something happier, surrounded by friends and family. Something about the combination of Bubblegum being genuinely glad he's there (an enemy who used to hate him, to a friend and daughter-in-law), Finn and Jake going from fighting him to being his friends, and Marceline as a child to as she is now still remembering him, it's all like a rapid condensing of the deeply emotional slow burn that was his story if you watched it when the show was actively airing, and it punches me REAL hard in the feelings, but in a good way!
Alright hear me out. Finale to fionna and cake should end with this entire song and its just a fun little montage of the after events of F&C with Simon accepting that he doesnt have to be ice king to live a happy life and see magic in Ooo and he decides to work at ROOTBEER GUYS BAR and it can be like a silly little reference to cheers obviously with this song playing and then it goes through all the universes and how theyre all doing alright - Lil Destiny helping Farmworld Finn up and going home with Jay and them ending up okay despite the havoc, Babyverse Finn getting taken back to Babyverse by Prismo (but only after he totally stabs VK with the help of PepTank), Winter World PB putting her candy subjects back together, and idk maybe throw the lich putting BMO back together cause he actually kinda liked having a friend around. Then the final cut away can be to Fionna and Cake in their universe but like the magic version or not idk what i want to happen there

Haha, I suppose it was more to a song for Simon, something he kept with him to try to keep himself sane. He sings it when it puts on the crown to distract himself from saying crazy things i think.
I love this so much. Honestly, it’s corny but one of my favorite parts outside of the whole emotional parts is the “your little angel held the cat up by its tail” part with Gunther smashing the keyboard with the cat in the background. It just makes me laugh.
I LOVED ice kings evolution through the series. In the beginning he was a kidnapper antagonist, and by the end he was just a cool weird guy who just chilled around
I was watching the video thinking how prophetic you are, and then it gets to the part where you wish that they'll be together in the end and I teared up a little bit

I have a bit of a hyperfixation with this show and I litterally have to stop myself from being able to watch these because it makes me genuinely depressed and puts like a deep painful feeling in my chest, that is to say, this animation is wonderful and you are a very gifted artist
This was so stupidly cute. And so nostalgic. You really captured that family TV show that aired at like 7pm after dinner where everyone sat down to watch and al the intros to the characters were like that slow turn .
I love the comic rendition of Simon, It's too bad that its not canon but like I get it. Golb is an enigma nonetheless Golbetty, and to severely humanize the entity of chaos means to lose the meaning of Betty's sacrifice. Fionna and Cake really fixed somethings, my only problem with it is that it was only 10 episodes when it should have been at least 15 (Or 16 because they released two at a time) that way they could have had the chance to fix the pacing. I know there are fans who wanted to see Simon have a happy conclusion, but I think that the conclusion we got was the one Simon needed the most. I'm just glad that they kept Golbetty mysterious and unpredictable in the show.
