Adventure time has broken me, in a good way
This show has such a nuanced view of relationships. Simon and Betty's relationship started with a big power imbalance, and Simon unknowingly let Betty sacrifice her whole life to be with him. Normally people would look at this in such a binary way, say that it was toxic and therefore everything about the relationship is bad. But Fionna and Cake shows that, despite the problems, there was still love there. It doesn't discount the terrible decisions Simon made, and the harm it caused Betty. It makes it clear that Simon was in the wrong and should have cared more about Betty's own dreams and aspirations. But it also acknowledges that they still loved each other, and were the best parts of each other's lives. Simon and Betty deserve to be together. It wasn't the relationship itself that was the problem, it was how Simon handled it, which is something I've never seen depicted before.
But still Betty wasn't really open about her feelings/thoughts about herself, sadly Simon was too "clueless" to get she was sacrificing everything she had for him and there even was a power imbalance between them (in my view, Simon thought they were at the same level from the beginning, but in reality it wasn't that way after all), but I'm sure if she'd ever told him about what she had on mind for her, surely Simon wouldn't mind getting out of his way to help her doing so.
The problem was really the lack of communication between each of them. Neither Simon nor Betty were bad people or really bad to each other, but him not getting that there ever was an imbalance between them and she not opening about what she could have for herself was the point of their relationship problem. If somehow Simon had knowledge about the imbalance or Betty told about her stuff, they could've worked around that and maybe have a different path, as said in the episode.

@@SimonPetrikovv I wouldn't call Simon clueless rather that he is equally in love with Betty to the point where he put's her on a pedestal where he just never once questioned why Betty was willing to sacrifice so much for him. Heck the song here reflects both of their thoughts.
The lyrics perfectly described Betty and Simon's story a couple episodes before we see the resolution, great foreshadowing !!!

@@papertiger4525 Agreed. As much as we'd all love happy endings, real life just doesn't work that way. This was honestly the best possible outcome that didn't seem too cliched or played out (either they both end up together forever and ever or one of them sacrifices themselves (again) for the other). I hate to say it, but what she said to him on the bus hit the nail on the head and it hit so close to home for me and a recent relationship that ended, that I finally lost it and cried:

I can't stop crying to this song. This show has put so much joy in my life these past few weeks and yesterday I lost one of the most playful and loveful beings I ever came across. My three-year-old cat died yesterday, his loss is horrible for my family and me. He loved life too much to die so soon. He wasn't ready.

Simon and Betty teach me about the journey of grief and acceptance too. Even in the supposedly happy love song, Betty is still sacrificing everything.
The song also reflects Simon. He made her his everything. He loved her more then himself. So its both of their song.
This song means so much to me. I have BPD and I'm not capable of forming healthy romantic relationships right now. I might be able to someday, but that's besides the point.
Throughout everything, throughout my entire life, art has always been there for me. Whether it be music, animation, art, or even a book, it's made me feel joy and happiness that has been longer lasting and far more satisfying than any human has ever made me feel. That doesn't mean I reject human contact. I've just learned it won't make me feel complete. Art does. I'm an artist myself.
This song reminds me of that feeling I get. That feeling of waiting in anticipation for a new episode, of discovering a new interest in the strangest place, of just watching a streamer on twitch play a video game. That feeling of pure, unfiltered happiness. An emotion, at least for me, so overwhelming it swells into my entire body, taking it over, making me feel alive.
Art is something incredible. It's the reason I get up in the morning and will for the rest of my life. This show, and song, gives me that joy. I am forever grateful for it. This medium will be my forever partner for the rest of my life.
I've never seen someone who experiences art the same way as me! There's just something so amazing about the raw emotions that can come from something someone made, it feels like it helps me understand those emotions better, too, since I have a hard time wrapping my head around a lot of things haha. Well, his desire was to always protect Simon and by accepting his fate and everything that happened, he doesn't try to hurt himself again and accept everything.
So Betty shouldn't be there to take care of him.

Every song from Adventure Time is a banger. This brings me back to a peaceful simpler time first watching the show. It just don’t miss and cares about us as the audience
This music is perfect as it about escapism and yearning for a calm, peaceful place to cope with a stressful time.
As both Fionna and Simon reached a sense of normalcy through escapism and, even though they are grounded characters, they are more accepting of the most chaotic aspects of reality, even those harmless that are looked with distrust by society

They made Betty and Simon so silly in the show. Both went insane bc of magic, yet couldn't really forget each other. Betty became magic woman and the ice king kept kidnapping princesses bc he unconsciously wished Betty hadn't left him. And yet, the ending to their story was still so gut-wrenching and memorable. Betty gave up her mortality bc he was everything to her, and Simon had to learn how to live with having lost her.
Despite their choices though, remember that the ice king would've been died if he hadn't found the crown, and Betty would've died had she not gone to the future with him! The apocalypse happened a few years after they got together. So maybe Betty would've gotten more time with her career if she'd chosen to leave on the bus, but maybe not. Maybe they would've found each other after the bombs fell, and lived a little longer, or maybe they would've never found or seen each other again.
Making a different choice doesn't guarantee a better future, that's why its important to live with the choices you've made!
The only things that could stop their love was a crown and a teddy bear.
