The phone call is between RM and another member of BTS.. could be Jungkook, could be V or Jin. We don't know for sure. However, the conversation is rumored to be (we sort of know the other side of the conversation, due to an accidental release of the original sound): RM: "Hello?" Member: "Where are you?" RM: "I'm at Han River, I'm leaving soon." Member: "Please come back safely." RM: "Yeah." The member told RM to come back safely because South Korea is known for being the country with the highest rates of suicide in the world. It's quite gruesome, but most South Korean suicides are done by jumping off the bridge and into the Han River, averaging to one death a DAY. So, over the years, the river has been associated with death and suicide. RM nods to this in the lyrics, when he says "Han River that bears too much Han". Han (한) means sorrow. So, he's saying, "The Han River bears too much sorrow". So, you can understand why the member was somewhat worried and told RM to "please come back safely". Edit: since y'all are so salty in the replies and cannot fathom the fact that someone could dig deeper than the surface and come up with different meanings based on what they see (aka what BTS WANT US TO DO), I'll be very clear and state that this is A THEORY. it is not confirmed, this is a theory that I read when the song came out, and I'm just relaying the message. You actually hit the nail on the head about how underground rappers are actually given a lot of shit for making it to the big scene. That is very much the case with RM and Suga. They were called sell outs and that they 'betrayed' their peers because they signed a contract with an idol company. He talks about this a lot in his song "Awakening" from his first mixtape. He lost all his friends and even amongst all that criticism its SO admirable how strong he must have had to have been and how much belief he must have had in his art and his talent to have kept going. His journey is very complex and hard but very inspirational.

I'm going to echo what a lot of other people have said. mono is a brilliant piece of work and warrants listening to from the beginning to the end (doolset bangtan is great for lyrics). everythingoes is one of my all time favorite songs in the world and has gotten me through a lot this past year. It almost has become my mantra, everythingoes.
Dunno if this has been corrected but non of the boys are actually from Seoul- Jungkook and Jimin are from Busan, V and Suga are from Daegu (something Suga references a fair bit in his solo work as being a “D-boy”), JHope is from Gwangju, Jin is from Gwacheon and RM from Ilsan. They all travelled into Seoul after being signed to the company.

It was really interesting hearing you talk about the whole underground to mainstream success thing, if you want to put RM's first mixtape in your "to react" list would be awesome bc It covers somewhat of what you said this mixtape is about/by the one that left underground hip hop scene (Runch randa) and joined a kpop group (Rap Monster), It's pure hip hop, insane flows, a lot of aggression and confusion but realization at the same The entire mixtape and especially the song *Awakening* it's a bilingual declaration . It shows the path he took recalling the sleepless nights and the broken friendships he went through to achieve his goal while acknowledging and embracing the title of an idol rapper, refusing to let it be a negative slur that holds him back

RM is so real. I think it counts with any city, anywhere in the world. If you have no money, you just automatically hate it. But as soon as you have a secure job that guarantees a stable income, then you enjoy city life more.

He said Han River has to much "Han", meaning the place for sadness. Also Han River is a place known for suicides and the place we're depressed people go. Taehyung (v) telling him to get back home safely...i still don't know how to interpret this to be honest but alot of people were concerned about about him at one point. Namjoon has gone through such hard times. You can react to more of his songs from this mixtape. It's so heartbreaking because in 2016 he was in such a dark place and even tho he is sooooo much better know he still wanted to release this so see if it could help others. A true Angel 💜

Seoul is one of the largest metropolitan cities in the world and holds nearly half the entire country's population. Especially for people who aren't born in Seoul it has this connotation of 'moving away looking for work' and 'chasing your dream' because basically everything is exclusively in this one city. It's this idea that, without moving to Seoul you can't really get far in life and your options are limited so even for those who hate Seoul it's still a place they have no choice but to love because it gives them more opportunities to pursue a dream and a career the living costs are extremely high, competition is awful but you've got this dream you have so you roomshare with 6 people and you've got a family to support so you can't actually leave and at the same time because you're in Seoul can pursue these dreams and earn enough to support the family you're living away from so it's a bittersweet kind of feeling

For more info: Seoul is the capital of Korea and has a large population. Among them, poor small citizens live on the outskirts of Seoul and still yearn for Seoul. Rm and his school friends did not originally live in Seoul, but his friends got a job in Seoul and he succeeded and lives in Seoul. Seoul is a symbol of success for Koreans and a place of fierce life. Also, the Han River, which was said to have a grudge in the lyrics, is the place where people commit suicide the most in Korea. Rescue workers are even stationed and monitored on CCTV to prevent suicide in Han River.
I just love that he said you guys are going in I feel like any project done by bangtan makes you reflect so much so even if you want to take it lightly you just end up reflect on yourself get deep and looking at everything surrounding the song from the sound to lyricism to the visual when there's one I don't known it's something you just end up doing without trying it's bangtan's magic

Moonchild has 3 different interpertations and I am always dying to see what Shmo would do with those lyrics. And BTS use the same production company, Lumpens for almost all of the mvs, even for the solos. Shmo! My guy! I love watching that big beautiful brain of yours work! I know some people get annoyed that so many people are requesting BTS reactions, but honestly the analysis you guys do is always amazing. And BTS are word smiths of a higher tier. It is always great to see reactions where the lyrics are understood and appreciated. I would love to hear what you guys think about the other songs on Mono, expecially Moonchild. Moonchild has 3 different interpertations and I am always dying to see what Shmo would do with those lyrics. And BTS use the same production company, Lumpens for almost all of the mvs, even for the solos. I think its just that they have been working together for such a long time that they just meld really well. They know how deep the boys go in thier lyrics.
