    I would love to see some more affordable options for internal 8TB m.2 drives. I just want some faster storage options, that don't need to be extremely fast, to make them a bit more affordable than the current price point of $1,000.

    • @kenwilliams3279

      I'm still using Samsung sata 8tb drives for that reason. Affordable 8tb nvme drives will mark a good day

    • @crat82
      @crat82 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kenwilliams3279 I have both 2.5 sata and u.2 8tb drives, but unfortunately it is an option for PCs only, not for laptops. Very few modern laptops allow sata 2.5" drives, not to mention that Samsung QVO is very slow even for sata SSDs, nvme should be a lot faster

    • @phil_matic
      @phil_matic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I like these because it’s a reliable long term storage that we won’t have to worry about drive failure. I’m in the same boat that I wish we had more affordability for larger capacity internal SSDs

    • @BillyMcMorran
      @BillyMcMorran 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a 2TB M.2 and it only cost me $100. Intend to add an 8TB SSD internally but wanted to check out the option in this video first. I will probably go with the internal,option because the drive will be faster and I have no intention to move it from place to place. Anyway, that is approx 10TB storage in my PC in total. I can keep the operating system and all software on the main drive. The second drive can be movies, games, etc. The prices for M.2 and SSD are very competitive now, and having both is the best of both worlds. You can have a folder on your desktop makes ‘storage’ and just dump all your files into it. Perfect.

    • @TheGameBench
      @TheGameBench 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BillyMcMorran I mean, yesterday the MP44 was only $800 at Newegg and Amazon, and now it's like $20 more and you can get the Samsung 8th QVO SATA drive for a little over $600. Prices are definitely coming down, but still a little too rich for my blood. Though they are getting to a point that 4TB NVMe drives are worth considering.

    Superb presentation. This SSD's appeal to me is it's capacity, the main downside for me is the speed. Given it's hefty pricetag, I'll probably wait and see if a faster 8TB comes along. That's the plan, but I am an impulse buyer so....🤔

    Not a very technical review. Interested in knowing TBW, type of nand, how long it can maintain its stated write speed, cache memory if any, etc. Not at all a bad overview, but I notice the makers do not offer much information about these drives on their product pages which makes me very hesitant to buy one. The overall quality of the basic review though was phenomenal and I liked it for that. Please do not hate me for being honest here, but I transfer 4TB per day (use the drive to move large projects back and forth via sneaker net) and really interested to know how long this will last in TBW?

    I’ve been looking to back up all my files to keep in a lockbox at the bank that I update each year. All my family photos, documents, and person work files are mostly digital.
    I’ve been eyeing the 8tb Samsung 870 Sata so I’m curious how this compares in price. Thank you for you coverage of SSDs and storage in general.

    Finally, an affordable (we hope) high capacity drive!! Took them long enough.
    That said, I bought a Cooler Master Oracle enclosure to quickly transfer data between multiple locations. But now that's done, it's just sitting there without a purpose. Any recommendations on m.2 drives that would pair nicely with it, to use as another external SSD?

    Samsung will have to seriously push their prices to make it a compelling buy,
    if 4TB Samsung 990 Pro gives 7GB/s r/w, they gotta make this T5 Evo cost no more than 1/10 of the price/capacity, something like 40€ for 4TB T5 Evo doesn't sound likely at all though

    I needed an SSD of at least this size, but I've had issues with mine from the beginning. I lost the entire contents after I just copied to it.... I reformatted into NTFS and found that it randomly switches to super slow USB 2.0 at times.... Could be my PC, but I doubt it. I also love my t7 touch in 2GB, it's more than twice as fast to write to it. Not pleased with how slow writes are....but it is faster than a platter...

      @@shaonian interesting -
      I've noticed that many manufacturing are designing their products these days to pass the benchmark apps with flying colors but when you start using them, you begin to realize that it's all a fraud.
      I wonder if samsung is using a similar method to scam the system - activate hard drive to its full capacity the first few minutes - but then throttle the speed to keep the device from overheating.
      Same thing can be observed with smartphone - and laptops. So many gaming laptops die within a year or two, because they squeeze in a very fast gpu - and to make things worse, many manufacturers also make their gaming laptops super thin (a sales gimmick, apparently), which basically causes the thing to die within a year or two due to the heat destroying the life span of all components.

    Big Capacity - Yes Please
    Small Performance - YES PLEASE
    Huge price tag - oh nvm
    I was hoping by now there would be some kind of ultra budget large capacity SSD to compete directly with HDDs - as bulk storage for less important data
    Even like 200MB/s would keep me happy at the right price, as it's basically what a HDD does but would have far better random I/O and be far less physically fragile
    But alas, per TB this is still around triple the price of budget SSDs, which are themselves between triple and quadruple the price of 3.5" HDDs

      I'd say this IS competitive..... as far as external hdds are concerned.
      I bought WD my passport ultra - 2tb - a bit less than 100 dollars. Samsung 5t evo 2tb cost me a bit over a 100 dollars, while the speed is about 3 times faster. Dunno about the lifespan though.
      I am still of the opinion that faster does not necessarily mean better - those things do heat up and their lifespan is significantly reduced as a result.
      The reason why I bought 2 different hard drives is for security purposes - just had an internal 1tb die on me after only 9 months.... not cool, losing that much data.

    Can someone explain to me the reason to have a high capacity storage drive so portable??? Why doesn't someone make an 8,10,or 20 tb ssd the size of a WD one book? (maybe 4"x8"x6" box). A high capacity external SSD would not have to be fast or portable if you just want to store thousands of files long term.

    • @StefanAlexandruGeogloman
      @StefanAlexandruGeogloman ปีที่แล้ว

      A high capacity drive should be at least decently fast - you don't want to take 2 days off to transfer the data. Also, if your main drive has problems, you want to get the data transferred as fast as possible. Very small is not really necessary but of course nobody will make the drive bigger just to be bigger. People these days don't even have laptops, some just tablets or just phones - a small SSD means easier use when you're using other small devices. For desktop users of course it doesn't matter if they don't travel with it. But the main thing that's just unclear even after all those years is how secure is having data store on offline SSDs since they loose the capacity to store data after months/years depending on the temperature.
