    This is so cool. James MacAvoy comes from my area, he went to my high school, & he even went to my old scouts when he was young. Gives me hope that i can get that success

    So sad Daniel has retired from making movies. With three Oscar wins other actors must be feeling strangely relieved.
    I hope we see a change of heart and another sublime performance from him.

    this is great! what a wonderful oportunity to listen to all these guys talk about the process of acting. love it. and first time i could understand the entirety of what James McAvoy said lol hurray! I guess Marion Cotillard wasn't so lucky. People are saying that she doesn't say anything and my guess is she was really trying to understand all that English. In 2008 she had just come to stardom, and I think she might have had a lot of trouble with the language. i have no idea who the kid is, and angelina... well, i guess she didn' have much to add.

    Why is George Clooney even talking to Daniel Day Lewis about acting?

    • @MNico1992
      @MNico1992 11 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i know Daniel is on his own level when it comes to acting, but Clooney has only one fewer Oscar nomination for acting. both of them are incredible actors.

      MNico1992 No. No they are not. I wouldn't even call Clooney an actor. I'd call him a star. A guy who's in movies.

      Jur Venema Clooney is a classic Hollywood leading man. The only time he's really interesting is when he's playing up against that. Like Ocean 11. He's the lead but you kind of know the guy is of his head. He does that well, but he's certainly not a character actor like a Day-Lewis is.

      Maybe because he is a great director, and a good screen writer. and he knows a thing or two when it comes to acting.

    If you dig around, you’ll notice several interviews done on the same day, in which Daniel is wearing this silly shirt that appeared sometime after filming in Texas, and doesn’t match the hipster hat left over from Jack and Rose (and somehow, he makes them both work). He’s noticeably weary from these annoying same-day (no pun intended) interviews, but always generous. This is exactly what a guy like him hates about the industry. But it’s all part of that $$$$$$ earned. He’s just brilliant in every instance. God, he’s missed....

    I would have loved to ask this group if they had the same ambition as Gregory Peck who, even in his 80s, had dreams of making or acting in the perfect movie, because that's why he produced/co-produced The Big Country, Pork Chop Hill, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Guns of Navarone and Cape Fear, in order to try to make the perfect movie.

    I find it funny how you have Professor X, Batman, Kitty Pryde/Vayna Hargreaves, Talia Ghul, and I don't know which Eternal Angelina Jolie is playing. With the exception of DDL, everyone at that table has done a comic book adaptation.

    Some people need to STFU. I am not huge Clooney fan my self but quit acting like he can't talk to DDL just becausae he's not as good of an actor. lol. It's called "Oscar Roundtable," So I would assume they are all nominated for Oscars hence they are there no matter how good or bad they are. So I hope that answers the million questions below that say, "Why is Clooney in the presence of Daniel Day Lewis?"

    • @crisguia
      @crisguia 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. Day Lewis is a great actor, but Clooney is a talented actor, too, although when I see an actor taking himself and acting too seriously, I often think 'big deal'. Acting may be a form of artistic expression and it's a profession, but to call someone even a terrific actor isn't really much of a compliment, imo.

      @@crisguia If you excel at your profession and are recognized for it and recive praise for your work that indeed is a great compliment.
      In Daniels case definatly a well deserved one because hes in my opinion the best actor of all time and should definatly be a candidate for the no1 spot in anyones list and if not theyd be ignorant.

    It is curious how little historical perspective we have. Now in our entertainment mad society, actors are looked up to as "celebrity gods" of sort; whereas in that ancient world -- and even in European consciousness as reflected in this interview -- actors were looked upon as shameful. It would be interesting to look into more deeply but I bet it begins with the stigma attached to "playing a part" -- that is to being anything but one's authentic self. But certainly the acclaim of actors is a recent phenomenon.

      What was annoying or boring about him here? He only ever has incisive things to say and also has the best laugh/smile on the room, maybe only second to James. What more could you ask for? Or do you need him to be a cool drug addict like Downey Jr to be “not boring”
