    Another one to add to the bucket list (they're adding up from watching this channel). I've decided these guys are frickin' geniuses...and who better to entrust their stuff with to cover than her? It's a win-win deal for us. But I hate that all the other YT guitar lurkers aren't getting in on all the fun - they don't realize what they're missing. I think this piece comes across better as a "virtual solo" by rolling off most of the bass guitar/drums (not her bass) and listening to it that way. That way you get all the juicy nuances of this fantastic performance. You just couldn't play this any better (check out her _right_ hand technique after you watch her left hand). But it's all for nought if the tune sucks - but this tune is SO interesting and pleasant to listen to. -Thanks for covering this! LOVE it!!

      I whole heartedly agree 100%
      with your "TUNE SUCKS" comment!!! I like her skill and talent but if the TUNE SUCKS you can't connect and it leaves a fowl taste in your mouth.

    Being quite " folky" in my up- bringing I'd have no idea what this music is about, until I see Mary N performing it to see the insane range you need to have as a player to make this music sound right

    • @furiousmat

      I've been playing guitar for about 20 years now. Mostly metal or just accoustic finger picking tunes. I'm an amateur but in my younger years I really grinded a lot and developed pretty crisp shredding technique. I knew I wasn't like, a top metal guitar player, but I felt fairly confident that I was a quite decent guitarist given that I was able to do some decent stuff and make it sound right. Metallica, lamb of god, lots of metal core stuff with decent riffs and lead.
      Then I ran into Polyphia. First when I was hearing it I was like "this doesn't sound too bad I should learn these songs". Then I started trying. I can barely pull any of their licks at all like I have to grind it for months and months before any of it sounds half decent, and usually I settle for playing it at a more casual speed because the regular speed, if I can play it at all, it just sounds rushed and shitty. It's like everything is a tongue twister for the fingers.
      The still to play it and make it actually sound like music like she does here is quite high.

      @sparda9060 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Polyphia incorporates alot of different techniques in their riffs. Its makes you learn thise techniques and practice sections of the song. Then the hard part of it all is to piece together all of the sections you learned and play it at the correct speed of the song is the hardest part. It sounds easy but the techniques involved and how its used together makes it complex.

    Everyone out here talking about Mary's guitar skills, which are obvious, but what I want to know: how do you get your hair to stay up like that without going frizzy or becoming a pure sheet from hairspray...? Only half joking.

      There are some hair spray that makes your hair super solid and sticks to its form you mold it in and hold its. The bond of the glue of the spray is strong enough that even if it you pinch it, it won't break or lose its form/hold.

    Girls have a better ear. They're not obsessed with idiotic distortion. Nor does she have compulsion to "shred". She makes that Tele sing. Her playing is mature and melodic.

    • @justsomeguy727
      @justsomeguy727 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do realize the song she's playing was written by a group of men ... right? It isn't her song. What's with this backhanded ass sexism lmao there are plenty of men AND women who love playing with distortion and others who don't. Hell, there's as just as many who enjoy both too, and it just depends on the musical context. No real musician worth their salt would ever think the way you do.

    Finally a TH-cam female guitar player that can really really play and isn’t a pair of tits around a guitar. Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself and looking good. But this girl is getting it

    • @justsomeguy727
      @justsomeguy727 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's DOZENS of female guitarists that actually play. No need to generalize negatively just to give someone a compliment. You just aren't looking for any of those people is all.
      Here, I'll help you out. Go watch ANY of Jared Dines's shred collabs and you'll discover a bunch of female guitarists that are all highly skilled. Just to name a few for you: Sophie Burrell, Nita Strauss, Courtney Cox, Nikki Stringfield, Tina S.
