Exposing the Website that Stalks You in Discord!

- There is a website called spy.pet that claims to have 4 billion messages saved across Discord. With this, you can "see what your friends are doing on Discord". Now lets cut the nonsense, this website scrapes messages on Discord servers (invading your privacy) and will show them to anyone who is willing to pay a fee.
But what if I told you things go deeper than that.
In fact, there are some hidden intentions of the website. Which combined with the legal issues of selling people's data, leads to a recipe for disaster. So buckle in boyo, you're in on the trainwreck early.

1. Theres no actual use for it besides "haha you can see what your friends are doing" (which is null in front of the law)

Theres been these cases where technical public information has been mass collected and the EU has been pretty strong against these cases even defining them as full trust public information in some cases.

You don't need a coomer autistic discord youtuber to point that out
I love that the people here screaming "its public messages" have no idea about what they are talking. When you post on discord, you do so by accepting Discord ToS. Things you post o discord is actually private in a way that it is between you and the company system, in this case, Discord. They are the ones allowed to broadcast that information and other can use their system to see that information, but if you make your own system to use their system to scrape that data, you are going against the law by gathering info from other people without their consent, because the consent was between them and discord, not you. So, if you think this is ok, do the same and wait for the feds to get to you, because this is probably what is going to happen with this individual.
Very important distinction that the comments seem to be misunderstanding, I agree one hundred percent.
In addition, they asked people to submit links to servers that are meant to be private too.
Except this is completely false?
If I take a screenshot of discord messages and send it on a different platform then I'm not suddenly breaking the law for "circumventing the system" or whatever.
I aquired public (or sometimes even not public) information through the system and I can brodcast it wherever I want.
Also terms of data processing are not in Terms of Service but in Privacy Policy, which says something completely different than what you did:
" *Be aware of the Discord spaces you choose to participate in*
You can choose what spaces to participate in and what information you add to our services. You can choose what messages to send or post, who to engage with (e.g., one or more particular users or a potentially unlimited group of users), what information to include in your profile, whether to connect any third party services to your Discord account, and more. I think a lot of people care about privacy, they just don't care enough to opt out of basically every service because everything these days intrudes on your privacy. Just having a cell phone is already a big privacy invasion.
Better luck next time, Keenan Tolmie!
To explain the being trans and transphobic thing, a lot of people, especially people on kiwifarms, will pose as a trans person to get close to real trans people. The pixiv pfp is usually a giveaway (some real trans people use them but a lot of people going undercover to stalk trans people and make fun of them immediately go with one) so honestly if this person has a whole website dedicated to stalking the lgbtq+ community, I wouldn’t think it was wild to assume they weren’t a trans person at all and were just disguising themself as one to get into trans spaces and servers to be a creep. It’s just full on stalker behavior and obsession. Especially knowing they’re on kiwifarms and used chris Chan as an example thing- they’re trying to find the next Chris Chan so they can harass them and laugh at them.
User bots are probably common it's just most people don't know they are always around if a server is big enough
Dude, you're a legend. Thank you for bringing visibility to all this.
Duuude what is that flowchart software! looks sick!
I think its excalidraw
They now have an actual page with instructions on how to actually request removal. If you're in the EU it links to a recornized legal template.
part of me thinks that unknown claiming theyre transgender is so that they can go into places to act awful and "stereotypical" to affirm peoples bigotries. then theres the other part of me who's been trans and online for 8 years and have seen the depths some people in my community are willing to go to to get acceptance from their cis peers, so... dont really know what to think with this one. awful person all around, whatever the case. i hope this scares them so bad they quit all this for good, however unlikely that is.
I disagree with the statement that the journalist is stupid or dumb for not giving an opinion. Journalists aren't supposed to give opinions (unless it's specifically an opinion piece), but be objective. The fact that this is one of the rare few journalists that stayed objective should be commended!
Just because most "journalists" write what can only be described as subjective blogposts, doesn't mean that it should be the norm. Journalists should write objective and factual news pieces and let the reader make their own opinion from it, not provide a opinion that you should adhere to.
That being said, the spy.pet guy is an absolute asshole and it is against GDPR to not allow deletion requests.
I'm a journalist, and I appreciate this. The distinction between reportage and editorial has evaporated. I'm not certain whether people by and large remember what these can look like separated.
Always remember, kids: Funny cat photos can get your identity revealed
holy shit ntts, this is incredible investigative journalism. you really have a talent! absolutely insane.
"Don't fuck with people's privacy, or they'll fuck with yours"
1:24 “The definition of insanity”
18:13 "I got NTTS IP he's not compared to me" got me chucke a bit.
What is the program you use to draw lines and connect evidence to one another? :)
I am used to Maltego but i truly liked the look and feel and simplicity of your program you were using :P

Can't do anything for private servers. They probably just have a bot sitting in tons of popular discords saving data and all of the messages that get posted. This only affects public servers who give out their invite links.
12:40 wasnt expecting to see myself here
why are you even there in the first place
@@naskivik probably because ruben sim posted the vid to kiwifarms, and im mentioned multiple times in a thread spy.pet participated in

LMAOO your video made him add a real opt-out button to his site today instead of the fake "Request Deletion" thing
It actually happened in the MIDST of recording lmfao, also don't email them; unknownsrc the impossible transgender transphobic may get your data if you do that, so don't
