    • The Seekers - I Am Aus...
    Lyrics
    I came from the dream-time
    From the dusty red-soil plains
    I am the ancient heart
    The keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shores
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I've been
    The first Australian
I came upon the prison ship
    Bowed down by iron chains
I fought the land, endured the lash
    And waited for the rains
    I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife
On a dry and barren run
A convict, then a free man
    I became Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger
    Who sought the mother lode
    The girl became a woman
On the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the Depression
I saw the good times come
    I'm a bushie, I'm a battler
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
    I'm a teller of stories
    I'm a singer of songs
    I am Albert Namatjira
And I paint the ghostly gums
    I'm Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda
    I am Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
    The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
In 2014, Judith Durham and The Seekers concluded their Farewell concert tour. It's clear from the fan videos (taken in Australia and London) that they were in great form for their Golden Jubilee and at long last an official DVD is available!
Hi Travis and Susie!! I totally love you guys so much. You have just the best spirit about you. I chose this song because it’s a sweet song that talks about what makes an Australia what it is. That we are a hodge podge of people from all over the world. But truthfully, australia always was, always will be aboriginal land, but it’s a great place to be. I hope you like it.

Sorry. I am an Australian and this song makes me tear up. I had a girlfriend who died of cancer about 13 years back. She was proud to be Italian, but equally as proud to be Australian. The woman in this song also passed last year. Please, enjoy this song. And know that while every Australian's story about being here may be different, whether of Anglo heritage, European, Asian or what ever, we are all Australian.

This wonderful Judith Durham (female singer here) passed away last year. The seekers have said thy wont perform again without her, they’ve been together as a band since the 1960’s.
This song is so beautiful, it has phases and tells different parts of the story. The first part speaks of Aboriginal people before European colonisation, the 2nd verse tells the sories of the early fays of the Europeans, establishing a prison colony. The third verse tells the story essentially into the 19th and early 20th centuries when Australia became a nation. The last two verses talk about Australia’s cultural heritage and then it’s natural wonders.

      Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
      We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
      Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
      We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
      To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing

It is a Didgeridoo. I still miss Judith, the lead singer who passed away just a few days away from Olivia Newton John. They were both granted State Funerals and they were both wonderful.
Judith was left with a lung disease she got from having measles as a child and that is why we lost her. She is sitting on the edge of a stool on this farewell tour because she had just recovered from a bad stroke. Yet she still had that amazing voice. Listen to something they did when they were young and they are world famous. Like The Carnival Is Over or Georgie Girl or anything.
It has now been proven our First people have been here for 65,000 years. I am Australian and I have been to America 6 times. All Australians welcome people. We can be odd but you will get used to us. We don’t have to know you to start talking to you or help you. I live in a small village like place on a Long Beach. It is a 25 minute drive to the nearest Country City and it was hard for this girl who was born in Sydney, lived most of my life in Melbourne to get used to living in the Sub Tropics in Queensland but I wouldn’t change it. We have a tiny Pharmacy that Dwight is mostly running. Dwight is American and I asked him how he ended up here. Most people don’t know where here is. He told me he loves Australia and I said but here? His wife was born here. 😂

That Blorr blooor sound at the beginning is the Indigenous Australian instrument called a didgeridoo. It is a long hollow wooden tube, played using a circular breathing technique. It is an incredible, haunting sound. Best heard when played by an expert in a cave or an Australian river gorge, where the sound echos and reverberates. Look up didgeridoo music. You will be amazed. Loving your journey through Australian music. Happy to make you honourary Australian citizens. You are always welcome here. Love from Perth in Western Australia. For us Aussies this song is so moving, it should be our anthem. It sums up what it really means to be Australian. Over the past 200 plus years we have all come here from another place, whether as convicts, refugees or free settlers. Even our first nation people came from another land, now believed to be around 65,000 years ago, (not 40,000 years as originally thought.) It really doesn't matter when we got here, we're all Australian. We are one. RIP Judith, you sang like an angel.

@@pwk22 His family was poor Irish Catholic, the lowest rung on the social ladder back then. The poor were looked down on and rarely got fair treatment from the constabulary. Consequently there was a fair bit of intimidation and no love lost between them. Ned Kelly decided to make a stand and became a kind of folk hero. I'm not defending cop killing by the way, just giving you some background. They say his last words before they hanged him were "Such is life" Check out Albert Namatjira, another name mentioned in the song. He was the first Australian indigenous painter of note. Interesting story. I'll give you a vote just for reading a bit.☺

I am the decendand of a convict then a freeman, then a settler, then a farmers great- great grandaughter and still the daughter of a farmer, they endured the depression, and a few other things in this song. I actually have it on my PC and play it first thing in the morning, which for me is about 3.00am, but the cattle don't seem to mind. Makes my heart swell and I am ready to battle the element's and the cattle. Best by far country in the world.

The Seekers are an Australian Institution - this song encapsulates what it means to be an Aussie.
First Nations people, the convicts who became "free settlers" those like me who came on a boat from far away, we are all Australian. Makes me cry with pride and thankful every day.
This version was the final performance by The Seekers, and Judith Durham still has the voice of angel here. The day she oassed away, was a sad day for Australia. The Seekers still hold the record for the largest crowd at a single Australian concert - over 200,000 back in the 60s. Considering the population at the time, that was incredible.

I love my blue singlets, I love a beer, a meat pie, I love my footy and I love my wife, not at all in that order. LOL That misrepresentation of the blue singlet is highly exaggerated and no doubt directed at the working class bogan's of the 80's and was an invention of the Yuppies wankers that we had such delight taking the piss out of.

The Seekers have been around since the sixties. Judith Durham was sitting because of her health. She later died from her lung condition. This song is iconic. And very much loved by us Aussies. As are the 3 three wonderful men with her. The rumbling sound is a didgeridoo ( first nation/indigenous/aboriginal instrument.

I, like a lot of Aussies, feel so proud when this song is performed and as others have said, I think it should be the Aussie Anthem. it may not sound like an Anthem song, but who gives a stuff when it make you feel so good. Thanks for the reaction.

We, as the "white man" were brought here in chains and many MANY wrongs were done.
Please come visit our land, you'll never want to leave!!
We are culturally diverse, friendly happy people.

This is a song of 'Gratitude' and speaks of who and what makes up Australian history. This Thursday we celebrate Australia Day. There are those who still want to divide us...but I hope we can all get together and celebrate this beautiful country and 'All it's people' Dear Judith had only just recovered from a mild stroke so she sat on a stool to sing...but her crystal clear voice was still strong and clear. They helped her down to the edge of the stage so she could receive the applause of the crowd. She passed away a few months ago, may she R.I.P.

This is our default Nation Anthem.. A beautiful song that embraces everything Australian. When we are a Republic, it will be our Anthem Im sure (probably the chorus bit mainly, but all of it). And that sound is the Didgeridoo.. An Ancient instrument.
Goosebumps from music is called "Frisson".. Frisson, also known as aesthetic chills or psychogenic shivers, is a psychophysiological response to rewarding stimuli. Over-represented in musicians and artists, which is kinda self-evident.
Albert Namatjira was a famous indigenous artist.
Clancy was a horseranger/traveller, in a famous poem by Banjo Patterson..
Glad you loved it, it obviously made you smile.. Beautiful Judith passed not long after this R.I.P.
