Great game! Those gold leaf things increase the speed of your axe recharge if I recall. Also, there’s a secret spot on 3B where the logs float down the waterfall, take them down and jump right.
The main character's name is "Gogan" who is searching for his captured lady "Flare" with his legendary axe "Sting". Didn't see anyone mention, so there ya go!
L Axe is a nice game but L Axe 2 is fantastic. Played 2 back when it first dropped and 1 much later on. Don't know if the nostalgia affects the way I remember them but great little series.

It's the kind of game where it's easy once you know what to do but impossible otherwise. For example the Punjobs AKA the guys with spears (that really is their name in the manual) are easily defeated with one jumping attack at full charge. The last boss in this game looks hilarious. You can see him at the end of my playthrough I uploaded.
Some of my streams are better than others. That probably goes for most streamers. Glad you were able to make it through one in full. Probably something good to throw on in the background while doing other stuff

Also 4 made a shit ton of money and was funny so 5 was trying to carry that on. And even succeeded I’d say.

This made me pull out my PC Engine with everdrive. Also made me remember why I only ever play halfway through Legendary Axe.

I've played a game similar to this on the NES, called Astyanax. Similar mechanics at least.
