    I recently picked up the 3fUL Gear Taiji 2 tent as it’s a spacious 2 person shelter at a decent price. I’ve tested it on my recent Snowdonia trip but before taking out a new tent, I recommend you check it and set it up in your garden or local park to make sure everything is as it should be.

    I really like your channel as a Guide Leader for over 20 years and with over 50 years of camping experience I would like to pass on some knowledge. If you roll up the doors from the inside you will find that the rain rolls off and does not create puddles. I hope this helps. Take care Gill

    I've seen quite a few people using and reviewing this tent, but you STILL have that knack of showing and demonstrating things really clearly. I bet you don't even think about it, and you just do it instinctively, but...great job 👌 I love the colour of it, and hadn't appreciated just how massive it is till I saw your video!

    so far this tent ticks ALL my boxes. I'm so tempted to buy one. The only thing stopping me is my need to see how it copes in heavy wind and rain. I'm used to a low profile tunnel tent with lots of guy lines, but I crave the extra headroom and this tent is 500g lighter than my current one

    It’s a cool tent. Copied from the Hilleberg Rogen. My friend has the Taiji and I have the Rogen. Pretty good for the enormous price difference. In wind we found Taiji bent a lot more, but other than that extremely good value. Rogen used poles sleeves including for short cross pole vs Taiji external clips. Both fun tents and great for the weight.

    For tent clamps.... I also put in a few tent clamps which you can attach to the tent bottom to add additional strength to the sides if your tent does not have additional guide points there. Tarp Clips Heavy Duty Lock Grip, 20 Pack Tarp Clamps Heavy Duty, Shark Tent Fasteners Clips Holder, Pool Awning Cover Bungee Cord Clip, Car Cover Clamp

    A silly small thing, but one that I really like, is the bag. You don't need to have an industrial press to get it small enough to go back into the factory bag. Very nice feature that makes using it easier. Esp if you are packing up in the rain and you are trying to get it packed in a hurry.

    A very similar tent to the Sierra Designs Meteor 2 & the Naturehike Nebula 2, & probably many others.
    The short cross pole at the top makes all the difference to the height & stability, & the two openings are a campers dream.
    We could finally be getting very close to the perfect 3 season tent here.

    Hi Paul, I have pretty much zero experience in camping but was wondering if you have ever used or considered using plastic cable ties for emergency repairs connecting the outer to the poles. Where the three poles cross looks like a stress point and do you think adding the ties would give extra support and strength in strong winds or maybe even secure them with a carabiner. I do enjoy watching your channel and I am pleased that you seem to have regained your passion for camping. Take care.

  • @peteh7185
    @peteh7185 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Paul…great review but I think you have the top connecting piece wrong, according to the 3ful website and other reviewers. The short cross member goes last OVER the top of the two main poles, with the centre plastic connector attaching to the bottom main pole and the top short spreader pole, sandwiching the other main pole inbetween . Just an observation that may not even matter in the end.
    Keep up the top videos Paul.

    The sequencing/method you used to clip the top, short 'spreader pole' in place appears odd. A better devise (or at least thought out) would be to clip by using the under-hook part inline with the long pole atop highest crossover/intersection...same as inline with the rest of the fly clips... then flex the small pole over top the U-shape feature (like an oar in its lock). Any thoughts? I think what the manufacturer has in mind is both long poles are using the fitting to create the intersection...then the short pole gets bowed over the top without anything.

  • @thewestonfront

      @@PaulMessner ignore me not standing still while filming but the horseflies were out in force that day! Haha. It's a great tent Paul and I've had it out in some real bad weather 👍

      @@GrizzlyGaz how does it perform in strong winds? does it stay dry inside during heavy rain? No leakage at the pressure points??

    Don't know if I'd want to camp in a Tadger tent :)
    I see the lone explorers Durston xmid 1p in the background, if I'm not mistaken.. . My 2 person xmid arrived in Ireland today. Just waiting for An Post to send me the customs notification. Its a bank holiday so probably won't get it until the end of the week. Will get it up into the Wicklow mountains once I get it.
    Don't know about those guy systems that attach to the poles on that 3ful tadger, by the way.

    Again Paul, the short pole sits atop the long cross poles, which utilise the swivelling catch. This puts the short pole at the highest point, placing most pressure on the tent and keeping it taut, as compared to the alternatives. Think about it at least, if you don’t want to read the instructions.

    • @chazphot
      @chazphot ปีที่แล้ว

      Boasts about not reading instructions and then sets the tent up wrong. Now anyone who finds this video to see how to set-up the tent will also set it up wrong. Not a good look.

    Hi Paul, how do you think the Taji would work for taller hikers i.e 6ft4 in my case. All the best.

    How did this fair on the hills Paul? I’m seriously thinking about ordering one but would like to know how it stood up first. I currently have the cloud peak 2 but I really like the look of this. Keep up the good work mate!

    This tent ticks all the boxes except the amount of condensation they produce, going on other TH-cam videos. Does it come seamsealed? Good video, thanks.

    Impressive tent. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in the wild. Also, your idea to add more guylines is a good one.
    *Edit* - just noticed the cross piece - shouldn't that go *above* the two long poles?
