We need them to come sing the national anthem at the Next notre dame men’s basketball game followed by the victory March so desperately needed go Irish.
This is the 2nd fight song that I learned (on my own) I don't know if the f.s. that we used have a uni to it. We played tribute to Troy, conquest, and Louie Louie but those aren't fight songs. We played fight on once for fun/practicing never out in the field or concert, its not a song that is great as Victory March/notre dame fighting irish.
Why'd they go and change the words to the fight song??? Stupid nonsense The authentic words are, "... while HER loyal SONS are marching onward to victory!" So much for "Tradition".
Song was not written or scored for female voices. If you want to hear the correct arrangement and sound, watch the last ten seconds of the Knute Rockne movie (1940).
notre dame our mother is defined Catholic dogma for all believers. mary is theotokos. the alma mater is unique to those in the university but englobes All believers!!!!!
Shouldn't change the words - the plaque on the Moon reads, "We came in peace for all Mankind." We don't need to change everything to reflect sex these days... Womankind, Humankind, etc.. "We Came in Peace for all Peoplekind?" I still cringe when I hear the new Ace Hardware lyrics... "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware FOLKS." We know what you mean, so no need to change lyrics to everything these days.
The original lyrics, written when all athletes at Notre Dame were male, refer to ‘sons,’ but in recognition of the fact that the ‘Victory March’ is now played for athletic teams composed of men and women, many modify the words accordingly. In 1972 the first women were included directly as students at Notre Dame, not just at St. Mary's. Women compete in multiple sports, have won college championships and therefore SHOULD be included in the fight song.
@@judyholland3327 As former Head Mgr of Univ Bands at ND, I've forgotten more than most people will ever know about all the ND songs performed on campus or elsewhere. Know the words to every one, and much of their history. Did you know the Alma Mater was first performed for Rockne's funeral, and then made the Alma Mater? The Pres of the Univ. wrote the words, Rev. O'Connell, and music was composed by the late great Director Joseph Casasanta. Yes, we know why the PC crowd changed the words, Judy, to be "correct" for the PC sexgender crowd, the same ones who pushed to have "The Vagina Monologues" on campus and to cover up the paintings of Christopher Columbus in the Main Bldg.... not "PC." But it just sounds goofy/silly. I cannot envision women on the smash-mouth gridiron "marching on to victory." The Shea Brothers wrote this song as a kind of rebuttal to the Michigan football team's having a fight song and our not having one. It was legendary, now it's just another hacked-up revisionist victim of the times. I will always sing the orig Shea Bros lyrics proudly, as did we all, sons & daughters, when I was a student there in the 80s and 90s.
